Upgrade from E6850 to Phenom II 955 - Worth it?

Have you considered the i5 750? That is a beastly chip and can be found for relatively cheap. If you are lucky enought to have a Micro Center near you, they are going for $149 their. And a good overclocking P55 board is much less than the X58 motherboard. I think it would be a nice upgrade...

G.SKILL Ripjaws or Patriot Viper for DDR3??

I bought those very same G Skills 2 weeks ago to pair up with my EVGA P55 mATX and I7 860. I picked them mainly because the voltage required is 1.5v. Everything else is using 1.65v. Also the color on the heatspread goes well with my color scheme. I am able to run mine on stock voltage.

The Corsair HX1000 is also an excellent PSU and will be plenty for just about any set up you can imagine

    Corsair 750TX vs 650TX

Corsair VX550 for $62 after $20 rebate. This would run it and leave room to add more

    Will my PSU cut it???

You probably could run it, but if you plan on adding more HDD's and high overclocks, etc. you will cutting it very close.

Looking for a cheap, quiet PSU

What is your budget? This Thermaltake would be enough and is $29 after rebate. Or maybe look into the Corsair HX520/VX550 PSU's if one of those fits your budget. Provantage.com always has rebates on the Corsair PSU's, usually $10 or $20 off.

    rare issue with 4870x2....

No, it will run exactly the same as both slots are x16. I would throw in a small fan (maybe 60mm or 80mm) and point it right at the NB heatsink or get an aftermarket NB heatsink.

    Time to upgrade Q6600

I would also go with the Gigabyte P45-UD3P as dbcooper1 suggested. It is an awesome overclocker and will handle x2 4870's just fine.

    Sufficient PSU?

My mistake, my mistake, it was late last night and I was reading everything all wrong . Maybe I was thinking the power draw on those links were just for the GPU alone, but 600w is still cutting it close. Especially if overclocking will be done to the GPU and CPU.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P (Intel P45) and Hardware RAID, PCI Express speeds

Adding the RAID card will have no bearing on the PCI-E lane speeds. You only need to worry about that when setting up Cross Fire, in which case both gpu's will run at x8 and x8. Even then, there have been several tests showing the difference between x16/x16 and x8/x8 is negligible. Since you...

    Recommend me a Mobo

Definitely go with Gigabyte EP45 UD3P. These boards have been getting high FSB speeds with the Q9550 in particular, taking them to 4.0ghz pretty easily. LINK Only $115 after rebate and by far the best board for that price!

Will this PSU Work? CORSAIR 650TX 650W (Newby)

It is a great PSU but if you are getting it from newegg you are paying way too much. You can get the Corsair 750TX for $80 after rebate from Provantage.com. Same PSU, just bigger and badder :) for the same price as neweggs 650TX :D

    Sufficient PSU?

Here is a visual for you: Power consumption is 198 watts at idle and 428w at load hardwarecanucks And here. straight from anandtech's reviews: Idle power at 249w and load power is 452w LINK I dont think your 600w PSU meets the requirements to run this card Jephph.

Can I use this with my Antec Neo Power 550? UPDATE

225 watts is IDLE power draw on this card. If the card is bought for gaming in mind, then it will draw a lot more power than that. Check out this review from guru3d. It says System in IDLE = 226w System with GPU in FULL stress = 416 watts. Come on guys, lets get real here, this is an SLI set...

Can I use this with my Antec Neo Power 550? UPDATE

Ummm... well it says minimum system requirements is a 680w PSU. Just because because a PSU is rated for 550w doesnt guarantee it will run at that wattage for its entire lifespan. Here is a link: LINK Just read the system requirements section! Here is a review from hardwarecanucks...

Can I use this with my Antec Neo Power 550? UPDATE

This is getting out of hand, you are very ill-informed. Please dont post just for the sake of posting. You arent being helpful to those that really need it. Minimum PSU requirement for a GTX295 is 680 watts. How can an Antec Neo 550w power a GTX295? No your 550w Antec will not be sufficient...

    Enough power?

He could run 2? What are you reading? There is no way he could run 2 GTX295's on a Silencer 750. Im sorry but you have been misinformed and passing on untrue information. This is the 3rd thread where I have had to correct you on passing false info. To OP, yes you should be able to run that...

GTX 285 and 650W PSU, ok?

One GTX285 draws around 330w at load. So yes you can run one, but not a chance at running 2.
  19. S

    Sufficient PSU?

NO, not with a 4870x2. Minimum requirement for a 4870x2 is 650w. I would get 750w or higher just to be safe. If you go with a 4870, then yes it will be fine.

    9650, 9550s, 9550, i7

Nice list Denithor. I would definitely go with the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P board though, it has been achieving some major overclocks with the Q9550 and Q9650's. People have been getting 4.0ghz fairly easy out of those chips with that mobo.

    asus choices - advice needed

If you want to cut costs even more, I would recommend this Gigabyte board: LINK It will save you some money and should overclock just as well, if not better than the Rampage. Someone I know sold his Rampage Formula to pick up one if these instead and now has his Q9550 at 4.0ghz. It is well...

    asus choices - advice needed

Well the P45's will CF at X8 instead of X16 like the X38 and X48 chipsets. However there is no siginificant difference between x8 and x16 lanes with a CF set up. So a P45 is a good bet as well. The P45's are solid overclockers as well, but the Asus boards actually OC quite well. nedjinski...

    asus choices - advice needed

A Rampage Extreme for $160? Sounds like an open box price to me, and open box items that are priced far less than the normal priced ones usually dont come with the accessories. What CPU are you pairing the mobo with? If you plan on nice overclocks I would look in to the Gigabyte EP45 UD3P LINK This board has been getting nice oc's with for many people and is priced very well. I would get one of these over the ones you have linked any day, especially if you are...

Getting a Q6600 stable at 3.2(400x8) specs listed

try running the AI Clock Twister at light or lighter and set Transaction Booster (aka tRD) to 9 or 10. leave your FSB strap on auto, that way you arent limited to the 4 speeds associated with that particular strap. if left on auto, you can select from all of the available speeds from each strap...

    COOLER MASTER HAF

This is actaully a very good case. It is pretty quiet, since the fans run at 700 RPM and 17 or 19dB, but move 100+ CFM. Ya many people say it is low, and I agree, it is pretty low, but I had an Antec P180, which is a quiet case. So I was quite surprised at the HAF. I have a thread on mine here...

HIS 4870 1GB Power Connection Issue

well I have a similar problem with my Zalman ZM750-HP. I dont have enough pci-e connectors to hook up my x2 4870's for CF. So what I am planning to do is run them using 2 of these 6-pin pci-e splitters (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16812201008). I was told by a PSU guru on another...

    120x38mm fans for TRUE?

I like the silverstone fm 122-b. It is 120mm x 32mm which is bigger than your standard 25mm width, but not quite 38mm. They also come with a fan speed controller which is a huge plus.

    ZALMAN ZM850-HP or ZALMAN ZM1000-HP

I have the Zalman ZM750-HP and it is working great so far. My only gripe is that it has only 2 pci-e 6-pin connectors when it should have at least 4. I think the 850 would be plenty for your planned rig.

To "Open Box" or "Not to Open Box"

I bought an Asus P5E X38 mobo a few months back for $99. It came with nothing but I was able to get the I/O shield from the Asus e-store and the manual and drivers could be downloaded. So they were not essential to me. I think I got a steal for the mobo as I have since seen it open box for...
