I got one video card rebuilt with a water block tonight. I had to take my time and be very careful. It took me over two hours because I was afraid to pry the stocking heatsink off the video card, and I have three more to go! The end result is *bad* *a$$* (aigomorla forgive me for my sins)...

Congratulations! Any ideas of what to use as silver inside a MCRES? I have no room for a tube reservoir. Otherwise, it would be easy to use a 5 troy ounce silver ingot or silver bar. 10 ounce would be possible too, but its kind of silly to spend $200 of silver on a $25 reservoir lol...

I was in Hamilton in January on business. It was a nice change from the winter around New York. It must be frustrating waiting for shipments to arrive from the US, and I can understand why you buy two of everything. My wife doesn't object to the cost of the hobby, but hates the brown...

The trouble is people who are insatiable. I would imagine 4 Ghz from a $300 cpu that is speced fro 2.67 Ghz is a pretty darn good overclock. But no, people want to do it at 1.15 volts :) Or take it to 4.5 Ghz on stock heatsink. Or pay $1200 to get a 975EE when there are no guarantees of a...

Aigomorla, Sorry to be a party pooper. Yes, these processors generally run a desired overclock and a lower voltage. Generally. However, have you read all across the internet forums? Its a crap shoot. Some of the guys who bought the retail D0s from Microcenter, Tankguys, Fry's and...

    Your Take on PhysX

I buy my cards for CUDA. I'm indifferent to Physx, but if it's there, then its an added bonus. However, I must say that the boost is quite noticeable if the application does support Physx, which is rare. I do play GRAW1 and GRAW2 and enjoy those games, but I don't care about Physx and the...

    GTX260 upgrade path

Hold off and save money. The GTX300 series is coming later this year, and it'll be perfect as a dual gpu card in your single slot mobo, that is if you want to keep your mobo. That is unless you can find a bargain deal on a GTX295.

I wanna see 4.5 Ghz. Low volts is nice and all. But I don't believe I've seen any C0s water cooled at 4.5 Ghz. The instance at XS was 4.4 Ghz. Anyway, I think NordicHardware did a C0 at 4.1 Ghz at 1.25 volts or 1.225 volts. Still, doesn't impress me. Get it to 4.5 Ghz and over (without...

    Concerned about my i7 temps

You really should be watercooling if you want to toy with 4 Ghz. A proper, well planned water cooling system will net you in the low to mid 50s fully loaded on all four cores with eight threads at 4 Ghz, with 4.2 Ghz possible and 4.4 Ghz (the highest I've heard) imaginable.

The exact same TDP. I doubt its going to do any better than 4.4 Ghz, that someone on XS has already done with a lowly 920 C0.

Ain't gonna last too long at 1.5 volts at any speed. I believe I saw a Nordic hardware site with a guy on a standard 920 at 4.1+ Ghz at 1.25 volts. Hard to top that. And I ain't jealous :)

    Overclocking I7 940 and P6T6 WS

Disclaimer: Overclock at your own risk. Know your own limits, and never cross into unknown territory. When in doubt, back off on the overclock, and if you don't know what you are doing, forget about it. I assume that you have DDR3 1600 Mhz memory or better (1866 Mhz / 2000 Mhz). I assume...

Thanks for the opinions and thanks for the links. From the article, I have come to the following conclusions: - a single GTX 295 or 4870X2 can't hack the mustard and are not adequate.. really quite substandard - cpu is very important, until the resolution gets really cranked up. At 4...

Impact of 30" monitor on upgrade choices

I have been using 30 inch LCDs for about 15 months now. I don't think you understand the onerous requirements. You would realistically need at least a 4870 x2 (if ATI/AMD is your cup or tea) or GTX 295. Due to a dilemma situation, I currently have a GTX 260 Core 216. Its not good...

    Best waterblock for quad cores?
