Pages wont load first time, always have to click try again

There are no disadvantages to this. You can set your TCP/IP settings back to auto and put the DNS server IP right into your router. All your computers will automatically receive the new DNS address. You may have to do a ipconfig release/renew though. Here is a link to what benefits opendns...

Pages wont load first time, always have to click try again

Go into the TCP/IP settings of your network card and manually enter in another DNS server that is different from your ISP's default such as Verizon's: 4.2.2.1 This same thing used to happen to me with my ISP's DNS servers until I manually switched it to Verizon's.

Wireless lan card doesn't see any networks?

Sometimes wireless cards come with their own software to manage the wireless networks instead of the built in Windows one. See if there is another wireless application that is loaded in your taskbar.

    Networking issue with Starcraft

Here is the solution Octopus. This is a known problem with Starcraft as it was never designed to work with more than one machine with a router. For some reason they never made a patch to fix it but a quick search brought me the information i used last time and it worked great: on any client...

    Wireless Configuration Lockdown

As far as group policy's go I couldn't find one that would do what I'm trying to achieve. I like your idea of using the manufacturer's utility instead. In the past I've always sworn off the 3rd party ones in favor for the built in Windows configuration but this is definitley worth a shot...

    Wireless Configuration Lockdown

That's what I was afraid of :(. The laptops are pretty locked down so that they can not go around changing settings and the only thing that is really concerning me is the wireless part. The less changes they can make the better. Thanks Jack.

    Wireless Configuration Lockdown

Computer sluggish since adding new HDD

Alright cool now we can rule out that its the Segate :). Have you tried running a diagnostic on your original hard drive as well when you tested the new Segate? If not I would try that next. Also when you look in the task manager and see those spikes, take notice of which process is hogging...

Suddenly my comp won't even post

Most likely its the power supply or motherboard. Try booting with only the bare minimum components such as 1 stick of RAM...1 HDD...and so on. Do you have any spare parts laying around? That's always helpful in troubleshooting! :D

    Problems Connecting

I have a Linksys WRT54G with Vista and sometimes my PC says local only but I'm still able to still get out to the net. Did your school use a proxy? Perhaps you need to remove it from your browswer. When you log into your router web interface, does the router receive a WAN address? Also try...

Jelly Bean also gives you keys to other installed software besides Windows. Why do you say its borderline malware? I use it all the time and with no problems. On the other hand I'm going to check out Belarc Advisor based on the recommendations so far.

Computer sluggish since adding new HDD

Have you tried unplugging the Segate from your computer to confirm that the slowness is indeed directly caused by it? Another thing to check is to see if DMA is enabled: Device Manger --> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers --> right click on the IDE channels and go to properties --> advanced tab

No Network Adapter - Can't get online

Alot of laptops these days have a physical button on them somewhere on the case that lets you turn the wireless adapter on/off. Take a look on the sides of the laptop or above the function keys. Also, try going into the BIOS and make sure the wireless adapter is enabled in there.

    XP error!

In the BIOS you said it recognizes the DVD rom...but is it set to boot from it before the HDD? Also, post the stop code from the blue screen. Sometimes it can help tell you where the error is coming from. Either way, before you restore you might want to run a Memtest and a hard drive...

whats so bad about 2 firewalls?

I would imagine it creates confusion when one firewall is granting access to the network for one connection and the other firewall is blocking the connection. Well, that's one reason at least :) Either way I would disable Windows firewall since you got Comodo on there. Its redundant.

I'm not sure which firewall you use but Comodo Firewall has this ability. Too look at current bandwidth I use a utility called NetMeter. Though I'm not sure if it runs in Vista. I think Vista has a built in app on the sidebar that lets you view current bandwidth anyways.
