    HD 3850 AGP

I have the same processor as yours on a D865 PERL motherboard, coupled with a Sapphire 3850 and a Corsair 520HX power supply. I bought the card when it first came out some 20 months ago and paid over $200 bucks for it at that time. The card has served faithfully all this time for all sorts of...

    DG45ID Running very HOT

I've worked with several Intel 43X and 45X motherboards and can attest to their "hot" burning ICHs. According to the Intel spec sheets, the MCH and ICH are rated up to 101/103C respectively, but users generally take little comfort in these specs when they see either running in the 70C range...

Fan speed on eVGA 9600GT SSC.

You might want to try EVGA's Precision. Works great on my Vista 32 bit system with a single 9800GTS...since my mb isn't sli, I can't authoritatively comment on controlling the fan speed on two cards...but I suspect it would work. Maybe some sli users on this forum would know.

    Replacing an 8800GT

You are caught between a rock and a hard place. The 8800GT failed because your case can't expel the system heat adequately causing the card to overheat (as well as other components as well). I suspect you'll have a shortened lifespan from the ATI cards as well, if you keep the same case. You...

Integrated ok for Vista Business Use?

No encoding, no gaming, yes the integrated graphics will work, provided it is Vista certified (the newer Intel Integrated Graphics are). But...if the video chip on the MB ever croaks, it would be nice to have a PCIe slot to mount an inexpensive GPU, or else you'll have to install a whole new MB.

Has ATI stopped marketing their own brand cards?

Yep! In a previous re-incarnation, VisionTek was in the nVidia camp! At some point, either under Chapter 7 or 11, filed for reorganization and emerged as an ATI partner...if my memory serves me correctly. I recollect reading in various forums of members trying to get warranty work for their old...

Good news for the AGP users powecolor HD3850pro

I think apoppin and Keysplayer make good points, as they usually do. And not to beat a "dead horse" to death, and quoting from one of my posts under a different pseudonym on another forum addressing this issue: "I think the issue may be more complex. For many, yes, it is probably better to...

    8800GTS Defective?

I had the same problem with the 480 Neo and a 7800GS. I took the side panel off and discovered the PSU was running hot (was subsequently heating up the whole box), probably caused by weakening caps after about two years of use. Swapped out with a Corsair HX520, and voila!...problem solved...

Would an AGP 3850/70 be wasted on a64 3000+?

Well there are different degrees of "bottlenecking"...depending on the clock speed, # of cores, cpu and memory cache levels, memory channel architecture, fsb and/or memory controller speeds, and how any particular application demands use of advanced shaders, ROPs, etc., etc., etc. Cleeve over at...

    problem with x1950 pro

My bad...you have a PCIX mb which is definitely better than AGP. You could buy a cheap power supply tester... see... http://www.newegg.com/Product/...on=power+supply+tester You can also find testers at CompUsa, PC Power & Cooling, and numerous other e-tailers. I'm guessing your...

    problem with x1950 pro

Sounds like the card, likely one or more of the on-board memory chips failing which will cause artifacts. Sub-par performance by the PS is another cause. I did have a failing mb cause instability at start up, but the problem was not manifested as artifacts, just intermittent BSODs or system...

    problem with x1950 pro

The Liberty Enermax 500 should do just fine, provided its not old and suffering from weakened capacitors - with either the X1950 Pro or the 8800GT. Regardless, the 8800GT would be far superior if you can afford it.

    problem with x1950 pro

You could have a bum card - happens with even the best. But then again, these buggers are power hungry! Most recommend at least 28 amps on the 12V rail. To be on the safe side, you probably need a solid name brand PS that has an output of >30 amps. I have a Corsair HSX520 on my VisionTek...

    HIS x1950 Pro Ice3 ?Turbo? 256mb issues

You should configure both to exhaust. If you set one for exhaust and the other for intake, your ventilation would be "short-circuited". This should help some, provided the case has other openings or slits/slots for intake air. I suspect the two openings are probaly for 80mm fans - this might...

    HIS x1950 Pro Ice3 ?Turbo? 256mb issues

Most "off brand" power supplies in the 420 watt range will not feed the X1950 Pro beast, and very few tier 1 or 2. You need to think about buying a better power supply. I would recommend a name brand power supply of 500 watts or greater. If you can only put 1 fan in your case (I assume on...

    HIS x1950 Pro Ice3 ?Turbo? 256mb issues

I have a rig similar to yours, and upgraded from an ATIX800XL to a VisionTek X1950 Pro. My processor is a 3.2 P4 C with stock HSF mated to an Intel D865PERLL Mb with 2 Gig of Ram. This combination has worked well for me with no glitches whatsoever. I did considerable research before I...

    slot cooler

I have several 8800GTSs (eVga brand at stock), one of which I have tried to cool in an old Sonata case. I originally had two 120mm fans in the case, one in the front drive bay pulling air in and a second in the back exhausting air out. It just wasn't enough. So, I used a Black and Decker...

Far Cry on Vista anyone? (having issues!)

You may want to try Catalyst version 7.4. You would have to, of course, uninstall the 7.5 version first, although I understand that that 7.5 is suppose to be less problematic with crossfire...but you never know til you try. You've got a potent system there - should run smooth as butta if you...

    X1950 Pro AGP is coming!

The decision with regard to which X1950 Pro AGP card to buy, ultimately rests with the feature set the purchaser desires most. The one shortcoming this particular card has is that ATI/AMD has not certified the AGP variant of the 1950 series. Check the following...
