Sometimes only 1 CPU detected during boot

I've a E6850 CPU, normally the bootup display shows 2 CPUs, but sometimes it only shows 1 and then would get stuck in that stage and not continue POST further. Strangely disconnecting one of my USB HDs seems to help it get beyond this stage, after a reboot, though I'm not 100% certain whether...

    Stuck in BIOS

Thanks for the reply I did just that, and cleared CMOS. However won't know for sure until I leave this off overnight... One odd thing is after flashing I had to reinstall my video driver.

    Stuck in BIOS

Just recently whenever I leave my PC off overnight, the next day when attempting to power up it would get stuck during POST just after showing the CPU. Then mysteriously after a random number of retries it would boot up as normal again. There has been no change in terms of hardware or BIOS...

How to make Vista Photo Gallery ONLY preview images?

Thanks for the suggestion. While sorting by type is an obvious workaround, it's not optimal. To generalize, if a certain dataset has files of different types, one of them being image, and another being video, and you name the different files of the dataset with the same name so different...

How to make Vista Photo Gallery ONLY preview images?

Some questions are just so particular that it's really hard to google for an answer. If you keep videos and images together, such as film covers, when you open an image in Photo Gallery/the default image preview, and scroll through them by arrowing left and right or whatever, the preview...

Please recommend a RAID 5 solution for me

Thanks for the tip. Per your recommendation I decided to get a Synology CS407 NAS box. Of course, now I'm gonna need a new gig-e router to make use of the speed...

    Good gig-e wireless routers?

It seems really difficult to choose a router nowadays. I currently use one of those boxy Netgear RangeMax things. Reviews are average at best as I found out, and controls are minimal; however I do get really amazing P2P performance (up to 1300 KB per sec on an allegedly 3.0M cable...

wow wish I would have got the Guild Wars Collector's Edition

What people won't do for glowing hands and a new dance... I love GW, but due to the game setup, ppl are even more obsessed with vanity in this game than others.

I'm up to 506 games legally installed

Speechless... Some of those games are from the last CENTURY, and they run on Vista64?! Yet a relatively recent thing like Force of Corruption for SW: Empire won't...shame on LucasArts. If we average $45 apiece for the games, regardless of fluctuation over the years, that's $16425. Try to...

HP 42inch LCD as Computer monitor?

This really depends on your TV's ability to scale. Large LCD TVs are not as flexible as LCD MONITORs in this regard. Are you sure your card is not running in 1920x1200? Seems odd to me if the video output matches the TV's, anything should be left off.

My PC hardly works, 8800GTX, Q6600, XP, 4GB Ram,.. Whats wrong?!!?!!

Updated BIOS and all drives I'm assuming...and all settings at factory default? Have you tried RivaTuner for manual fan control as another poster said above? The 70'c seems a little high especially with nothing running. Given the behavior with Crysis, auto-detect setting it to such a low...

need recommendation for reliable external hard drive for backups

I've 3 WD MyBook things, 2 500G and 1 1T (the old 500x2 kind). The 1T has something loose inside...but otherwise all 3 have seen daily use for more than a year. If you keep access to a minimal, as should be for backup devices, drive failures should be much lower than daily-use drives, right?

Please recommend a RAID 5 solution for me

I know that RAID != backup, but for home use it just seems too expensive to have that much backup capacity for data that changes weekly, which leaves me only RAID 5 to consider in terms of expense and capacity and redundancy. I need at least 2T of accessible storage, preferably 2.5 or 3T. I...
