Looking for Radeon 9800 PRO upgrade

Agreed 100%. I put a AGP 3850 into an Athlon XP 3200+ (slightly faster than the 2.8GHz) and my CPU was a massive bottleneck. Big waste of money. Thankfully I sold it for a decent price a week later.

    How to troubleshoot random crashes?

Thanks again everyone! I think i've made a new discovery... When I was originally given the Mobile Athlon CPU and custom heatsink/fan, i was told it could easily manage (200 x 11) 2.2 - 2.4GHz (2.7GHz on watercooling). However, whenever I pushed it above 1.9GHz, the system would boot up...

    How to troubleshoot random crashes?

Thanks for the help so far! I run memtest86 and there were no errors. I also ran Prime95 using the 'Small FFTs' test for 3 hours and had no errors. HOWEVER, when using the 'In place large FFTs' test, after around 14 minutes i received the following error: FATAL ERROR: Rounding was...

Safe to say that my motherboard is now dead?

Ok i checked out my BIOS and I think it's soldered. I couldn't remove it no matter how hard I tried. The bios looks like this: http://www.a7vtroubleshooting....icles/rd1/soldered.jpg and not like this: http://www.hardware-one.com/re...845/Iwill_P4S/BIOS.jpg Mine didn't have that socket...

Safe to say that my motherboard is now dead?

I know I have the revision 1.0 board. So that's good news. Will I need to take the board to someone else to get the chip removed or is it something that I could do myself?

Safe to say that my motherboard is now dead?

Safe to say that my motherboard is now dead?

I was told about using the 'clear cmos' jumper but for the life of me I have no idea where to find it on the motherboard. I've checked online and the manual and it doesn't seem to say anything. Anyone have any information about this? thanks.

Safe to say that my motherboard is now dead?

A couple nights ago, I noticed that there was a newer BIOS for my spare computer's motherboard (Gigabyte GA-7VM400M) which allowed support for newer processes. I had version F6 installed and wanted to upgraded to F9. So, I decided to use Gigabyte's @Bios program. I downloaded the new F9 BIOS...

Record video at 16:9 using VLC

When recording video, I can select 'Play Locally' which allows me to watch what is currently being recorded. This is in 16:9. However, when the recording has finished, the resulting file is still 4:3 and everything is squashed.

Record video at 16:9 using VLC

Hello everyone, I have been trying to work this out for so long now, it's starting to get on my nerves. I often record TV shows from my set top box using VLC however the resulting file is always 4:3. How can I save the video stream as 16:9 instead? Once I open the file to watch it, I can...

All of a sudden, Sygate Personal Firewall won't turn on.

The topic pretty much says it all. One morning I just started up my computer and got the Windows Security Alert that my firewall is reportedly off (Sygate Personal Firewall). I tried reinstalling it but that hasn't worked. I have done nothing different. I've now got a red security alert icon...

Hello everyone. I have a 22" Widescreen LCD (1680x1050 resolution) that I would like to use as a TV in my room without a PC. I would like to connect my high definition set top box to the monitor. Both the set top box and the monitor have DVI. However, because my monitor is 60hz and the set...

Recording video file at highest quality?

Hello Everyone. I'm fairly new to recording video. I currently am using VLC. Here is my situation. At the moment I'm using a standard definition set top box (PAL) to watch TV at 720x576 using VLC. The STB connects to my laptop via S-Video & RCA Audio to an external USB capture card. This...

    Basic Gaming PC

Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess i'm going to go for a whole new system in a few months time then. tHa ShIzNiT, I've never heard of, nor am I aware of a Windows XP to Windows Media Centre download. I'm 99% sure you have to buy the Media Centre OS.

    Basic Gaming PC

Yeah I know what you mean. I was considering buying a new system but the Ram is AU$40 more for 2gb DDR compared to DDR2 and the X1950 is much cheaper than buying say a 8800GTS, which is what I'd go for if I bought a new system. Buying those three compents alone would save me about 50% in $$

    5400 vs 7200

Thanks for the input everyone. By the way, both drives have an 8mb buffer. I'll check out the 16mb ones. Lastly, does anyone have any info on Samsung hard drives. A 160Gb 5400rpm 8mb Samsung drive is only $10 more than the 120Gb Seagate 5400rpm 8mb.

    5400 vs 7200

Hi everyone, I'm really confused and need your help on choosing a new laptop hard drive. I don't know whether to get a Seagate Momentus 2.5" 5400 120Gb for AU$125 or a Seagate Momentus 2.5" 100Gb for AU$160. Is it worth the extra $45-50 for the 7200 speed? I do some gaming and other...

    Does my laptop support DDR2?

I check what memory is currently installed and I know it's DDR not DDR2. The only thing that I'm upset about is that here in Australia, 1GB Notebook DDR2 costs $50 and 1GB Notebook DDR costs $110.

Gigabit Ethernet with ATA100 hard drive.

Thanks for your help. So, will there be a much difference between gigabit ethernet and fast ethernet?

Gigabit Ethernet with ATA100 hard drive.

I would like to know what is like to use Gigabit ethernet networking with a laptop ATA100 hard drive. 1 gigabit = 125 megabytes/sec but ATA100 = 100 megabytes/sec. Therefore is the network speed limited to 100 megabytes/sec or is it the hard drive that is limited when writing data? Thanks.

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated. I guess i'll try out FireWire for the sake of it. It's only a few dollars for a 4 pin to 4 pin cable.
  33. A

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

Ok thanks for the help mate. And by ATA100 = 100Mb/s , do you mean 100MB as in megabytes?
  34. A

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

I understand what you mean :) Ok here's a question, we both have ATA100 drives. Does this mean that we cannot transfer data through Ethernet, FireWire or USB at greater than 100Mbit speeds? EDIT: Or is ATA measured in megabytes?

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

Great explaination there. Thanks. I'm yet to see a 4 pin 1394b however, and I checked the manual of my laptop's series (not the exact model) and it did say 1394a. So overall, a 10/100/1000 would not achieve 1 gigabit because the NIC does not support 10/100/1000, and I pressume there's no...

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

Thanks again. I've checked and it seems that my network adapter, the Realtek RTL8139, is 10/100. Not 10/100/1000. So I guess my best bet is FireWire as this would be faster than 10/100? Also, the FireWire ports on the laptop are 4 pin, does this mean they are 1349a and not 1349b?
  37. A

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

Thanks a lot for that. Is there any way I can test if I have 10/100/1000 (Gigabit Ethernet) ? Also with gaming, I dont think it matters if FireWire or Ethernet. When networking with the two, both use TCP/IP.

    Ethernet vs. USB vs. FireWire

I have been wirelessly networking with my laptop and cousin's laptop for a while now however the speed is very slow - 11Mbps. Now we would like to connect them together with a cable. We network our laptops to share files and play games. Both our laptops have a 4 pin FireWire connection. We...

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes Markbnj I do sometimes see Acquiring network address" or "No connection" but that is rare. Anyway, I tried settings up my connection again. All seems to be working fine. If it happens again though I'll post here but I think it's solved now. Thanks anyway guys.
