Why I will buy an EVGA videocard again

I have to admit it shouldn't have taken so much effort and time to get the rebate. Looking on the flip-side of the coin, there was nothing obligating them to follow up on the rebate after 3 months and beyond (unless there is some rebate law that I'm not aware of). I have had a rebate where I...

Why I will buy an EVGA videocard again

Looks like it is the rebate company that finally sent the cheque. The cheque arrived at my post box 6 days later after the issuing date printed on the cheque. So much for it talking 30 days to arrive. It's more like it takes a few days to arrive when they FINALLY decide to issue the cheque. I...

Why I will buy an EVGA videocard again

I totally have to agree, those OCZ RAM rebates on their lower end kits sometimes halve the price of the RAM. It makes it too irresistible to factor in the rebate into the price when deciding what kit to buy.

    linux pc based router

I use an IPCOP box at home and it is great. It's the kind of firewall/router you set and forget. There is an option to do a solid-state compact flash install so that your router runs without a spinning disk. There are also many useful add-ons which are easy to install such as an advanced web...

Why I will buy an EVGA videocard again

I wish they did away with rebates too. Since they are going to give money back to you, so why not just have it occur instantaneously at the time of purchase? I guess they are leveraging the fact that many people just give up on trying to get their money back. I haven't had much trouble...

Why I will buy an EVGA videocard again

Why would I purchase another EVGA card again? It is simply because they have support staff that care. After a shady rebate submission process, eleven months of delay, two missing rebate cheques, and losing hope I would get my rebate, I finally got my $30 rebate cheque. In this case my rebate...

Oldest CPU you are running now???

Celeron 400A Slot 1 undervolted to 1.6 V (default 2.0 V) with 256 MB of RAM running IPCOP off a 256 MB CF card. Typical CPU usage is ipcop is < 5 % and is rock solid as a NAT + firewall compared to the flaky off the shelf consumer router I used to have.

    Share Network Drive with Neighbors

Wouldn't that mean all the data would have travel over the Internet? Connecting directly the to wireless access point would mean the files are transferred locally on the LAN thus avoiding having to upload data over the Internet. (please correct me if i'm wrong about this). Edit: Just realized...

Where does Windows store fileshare passwords?

On workgroup computers in XP the network passwords are stored in Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Click the account to change -> In the "Related Tasks" sidebar click on "Manage my network passwords". I think it should be the same for computers connected on a domain.

Are CMOS Checksum Errors caused by incompatible memory?

What kind of motherboard are you using? What kind of RAM is it? I think when ASUS says that their RAM doesn't work with their boards it is only because it's not on the Hardware Qualification List on their site. RAM is pretty standard (standardized by JEDEC) so in general it "just works"...

Back Up software that came with Vista (keeps failing)

One little thing about using NTbackup is that is doesn't seem to schedule jobs properly with Vista. So if you are using automated backups, then you have to manually schedule the job through Task Scheduler using NTBackup's command line options. NTBackup and Vista Task Scheduler

    Testing Hard Drives

There are two versions you can download. If your computer has a floppy disk drive download the self-extracting floppy image and run that. Once you run it, it should ask for you to put a floppy disk into your A drive and create a bootable floppy disk. Once the disk is created, set your...

Updating BIOS using a boot disc

If you do end up updating your BIOS probably the simplest way will be to use the QFlash utility that Modelworks mentioned, after all there is probably well written instructions in the manual for it ;). I've updated my Asus P5K BIOS several times through their internal BIOS update utility and...

Updating BIOS using a boot disc

A better question is why update to a beta BIOS? If your machine works fine now, there isn't a real good reason to update your BIOS, especially if it's to a BETA version... BTW. if you are looking for a bootable CD you can find some at Bootdisk.com. I've used their Bootable CD (Flashcd) before...

I finally picked up a copy of COD:4 from my local computer store and I read on the bottom of the box which says, "This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disc and virtual drives." I've read somewhere that if you install COD:4 on a machine with...

Maximum Die Temp For Celeron 400A Slot 1

The Celeron is the same as this one from wiki. I believe the L2 is inside the die. The stock heat sink that I'm using only contacts the core and not the PCB on the side (the heatsink is at least 2 mm away from the actual PCB) (SEPP Heatsink) Maybe it's better to just 7 volt mod the stock...

Maximum Die Temp For Celeron 400A Slot 1

I don't think there is a temperature sensor on the actual CPU die. The only temperature sensor on the Abit BH6 that I'm using is the LM79 sensor which gives the motherboard/chassis temperature. I did manage to undervolt the chip down to 1.6 V from the default 2.0 V which should reduce the...

Maximum Die Temp For Celeron 400A Slot 1

Does anybody remember what is the maximum die temperature for a Slot 1 Celeron 400A? I'm thinking of building an IPCOP box out of some old parts, and would prefer if it were completely fanless. The processor is a Slot 1 SEPP package Celeron (23.7 W TDP, Vcore = 2 V). The only thing...

    Discharging a PSU

I do notice that once I flip the power supply switch off (with the cord still plugged into the wall) the LED on the motherboard does go off after a few seconds, which seems to indicate that the PSU is discharged. If the PSU does indeed discharge so quickly, then what is the deal with people...

    Discharging a PSU

    A new rig - After 7 years!

    Nvidia entries cpu market

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the actual "CPU" in this chip the ARM11 core which is just some piece of intellectual property (IP) that nVidia is integrating with their own logic? This as much as entering the CPU market as buying an off the shelf chip ... Sensational THG title... but not...

    GPU Clock Speed/Memory Clock Speed

Maybe it has something to do with the 8x lanes that the ECS motherboard provides to the video card. A quick way to test that would be just to swap the X1650 into a computer with a full x16 PCIE slot and see if it reads the correct GPU speeds. It sounds like deadken has a second computer and...

    GPU Clock Speed/Memory Clock Speed

I just wonder if the programs are incorrectly reporting the clock speeds. I'm just speculating, but maybe the way DiamondMM implemented the X1650 board causes it to incorrectly report the clock speeds, even though the internal core speeds are correct. This is a long shot, but have you guys...

    GPU Clock Speed/Memory Clock Speed

You might be seeing your 2D clock speeds. Videocards have a lower 2D graphics speed to save power / reduce heat. Try running ATITool and scan for artifacts. While that is happening run GPU-Z. ATITool's artifact scanner should trigger your video card to run in 3D performance mode thus...

    Is Crysis multiplayer popular?

Those digital sales of Crysis must be huge because didn't even break top 10 in 2007. The 10th place game sold 236k. Top 10 PC Games of 07 I guess it makes sense since the PC gamers are more tech savvy so they will go the digital distribution route instead of the brick and mortar store.
