Sounds like good advice. I'll let you know if Antec responds.

    Antec 300 Power Button

I've had this case for ages and it's still going strong, with one exception. Recently the power switch was pushed in. I pulled the cover off the case and the switch itself works just fine, but one of the clips that secures it to case front has broker off. Not even sure what to call this black...

    Photo catalog software

Lightroom is indeed a great program, but it is probably overkill for what the OP is asking about. However, I believe there is a 30 day free trial. Check it out and see what you think.

    World of Warcraft question

Grinding and questing are very solo friendly. The endgame isn't, but just let the endgame be the, well, end. Unfortunately this can leave the casual player feeling shafted, as ggnl points out. There are minor story lines to the game, but not a core story line that gives you a sense of...

    Are gamers the master race?

While I agree that the age old gamer stereotype doesn't hold up, I'd still say a fair bit of skepticism is in order on this "study." For instance: "the average gaming household income ($79,000) is notably higher than that of nongaming households ($54,000)" Household income is a bit misleading...

    Photo catalog software

Picasa should work for you. It's free from Google. Just tag all the images you want to print with something like "print" and the you will be able to search for this later.

Foam for HDD RMA, where can I buy it?

@Zap I have the instructions as I've already submitted my normal RMA. Now I just need to ship it. I was thinking carpet pad since it is essentially 1/4" or 1/2" foam sheet. I could just cut it to fit the box and do layers. Not sure of the price until I go to Home Depot.

Foam for HDD RMA, where can I buy it?

I didn't think the Advanced RMA was worth it. This is a 300GB drive, so I think it is worth replacing so long as I can do it for a low sum of money. Unfortunately there isn't a WalMart in the immediate area so I will have to wait until the weekend rather than face the parking lot that is the 405...

Foam for HDD RMA, where can I buy it?

Does anyone one know of a good source for the 2" foam required to RMA a Seagate HDD? I'd like to get this out soon, so online is not an option. I've checked out Staples, Office Depot, and Home Depot online. They don't seem to have anything. You used to be able to find the egg crate style...

    Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 512MB.....$149/ar

I'm not into LEDs and windowed cases, so I could care less if it is ugly. What matters to me is does it perform better and cooler.

Roguestar Thanks again. Looks like I will be pulling the trigger tomorrow if I can get the time at work. I will do a final price check and trawl of the hot deals forum. I'm really looking forward to the upgrade.

    Photographers Choice LCD

Honestly, if your not printing or producing work for print then you really don't need a photo-quality monitor. In fact you probably don't even need to use a spyder to callibrate. I think there is freeware out there that will get you close enough just by eyeballing it. Remember that 99.9% of...

    Photographers Choice LCD

Do you need high quality, color corrected prints or print worthy files to send to clients for publication? Are we talking print publications or online? If you are dealing with magazines or fine art you will not find a worthy LCD in your price range. If you are printing at home on a high-end...

    Advice on upgrading my rig

Roguestar I really appreciate all your help. Yeah, the multi-tasking probably isn't going to be very, well, multi. I won't be video encoding since I only work with still images. The most multi would be something like scanning a negative, listening to music, and manipulating photos at the same...

    Advice on upgrading my rig

I've been swimming to the point of drowning in Q6600 vs E8400/8500 discussions and comparison. heyheybooboo thanks for the tip on the Tom's Hardward CPU Chart. The E8400 was about 25% faster than the Q6600 in the PS test. For my current usage based on my existing software the E8400 may be the...

    External Harddrives

Get yourself two external HDDs. Make a backup on one and leave it somewhere safe that you go regularly. Work is the obvious answer here. Then start a regular backup routine. Backup to the second external HDD and swap it with the one at work. That way you will always have an backup in a safe...

    Photographers Choice LCD

Does it have to be an LCD? You will need to spend way more than you have budgeted to get a decent one. CRTs are still your best option on a budget. You can pick up quality CRTs on Craigslist for a song. I believe some Dell CRTs are rebadged Trinitrons and should serve you well.

    Advice on upgrading my rig

Okay, sounds like I should just go straight to 8gb of RAM. heyheybooboo Thanks, I've run across tons of forum posts on the Q6600 vs. E8500. For some reason I was under the impression that the adobe products, particularly PS, were some of the more quad core friendly on the market. I guess that...

    Advice on upgrading my rig

Thanks TheKub and Roguestar. I think I'll up the budget a bit. The DDR2-800 2 x 2gb is only about $10-$15 cheaper, but savings are savings and I'm thinking about getting 8gb now anyway. Might throw some additional cash at a better graphics card since my monitor's native resolution is 1920 x...

    LA Times crazy cheap.

I'll second Harvey. I'm also an LA native and I wouldn't even bother with the Times. I guess the Sunday coupons could get you your $1 back, so it might be worth it in that sense. As far as news, however, no thanks. It used to be great, probably top 5 in the US, but sadly has fallen...

    Image/Photo Management System

If you still haven't decided the folks over at the DAM Book Forums should be able to help. DAM as in Digital Asset Management for Photographers. I think the author of the DAM book prefers iPhoto. I have lightroom and love it, but it is not meant for pure cataloging purposes. A lot of it's...

So close to pulling the trigger on this one, but can't confirm that it will actually work on my mobo. I'm currently running a 3200+ Venice and use it mostly for photoshop and imaging programs and some gaming. I've been reading that most software doesn't take advantage of the dual core. My question is, would the 4000+ San Diego going for $69.99 be a better upgrade for me. At some point I will...

    System check/advice for first build

Thanks again for all the advice. Taking everything into consideration I think I've settled on a configuration. I've raised my budget a bit, but made up some of that by buying a used Trinitron Flat CRT rather than an LCD. It's better for calibration anyway. I also did some shopping around for...

    System check/advice for first build

Goog call, Hacp. Correct, the non-SLI version of the MSI Neo4 Platinum does not have the 24-bit , but the non-Platinum SLI does. The other difference between the Platinum and regular SLI is Silicon Image's SATARAID, which isn't listed among the features of the non-Platinum. However, I'm not...

    System check/advice for first build

Many thanks to Diasper and Some1ne. I'm thinking I should pry my wallet open a little further. Another $100 for a 2x1GB RAM setup and the $70 bucks for the Neo4 SLI board and a Leadtech GeForce 6800GT video card. Remember, though, that overclocking is not my intention. At some point in the...
