thanks for the replies. she got the monitor for Costco so she could return it. and she got it last week. so no worries there.
I do actually have an extra copy of XP already that she can use. so at minimum I would need RAM and DVD burner. I guess I can spend less than $150 and get it...
Hi all,
I need some advice from the experts. I have an 3 - 4 year old server box just sitting in my room. My younger sister who is in High School needs her own computer (wants it really). so the current set up is as such:
- Intel Server Board S875WP1-E (on board video but no DVI)
-...
Ok. My main problem is that my 802.11g Buffalo router doesn't provide enough range down to the first floor of my home. i would like to have the ability to work anywhere in my home...currently not possible. I don't have any equipment that currently have N adapters. My laptops I am sure don't. I...
i need a MFP and i want a canon. but i have been considering if ink jets are really economically a good choice compared to laser color MFPs. up front it costs less to buy a color inkjet but in the long run is the color laser printer cheaper?

i am building a development server (won't be live). i will install server 2003 standard and sql server 2k. i will be using to do coding/development at home. i just want to make sure that i have stability and try to get 2 years out of it before i have to upgrade/build. i have been thinking...
Don't know if it has been posted, but i just picked it up. it seems to do everything under the sun. and that way i can buy the nec burner oem from the Egg.
i was figuring going linksys, but after researching here a little i think i'll go dlink. but what about the actual card for the 2 pcs. should i buy dlink as well? usb or pci? and what about all the talk about 2.4Ghz phones being a problem. i have one downstairs, and the network would be...
i called the express group, the company that handles fulfillment for OD. they said that they would honor it. in fact the lady pre-authorized my rebate because i told her that it was sketchy. so i guess it's good.
i also called OD a few times. 2 ladies said no, 1 said yes. but the...
i think you're right. i guess i just have an uneasy feeling about ecs...not that i have ever used them but their reputation stinks.
sorry didn't mean to rub it in :o
i want to get one and they both seem tempting. could someone weigh in on this...shuttle an35n & amd 2200 retail ($99) or ecs N2U400A & amd 2600 oem ($90). thx
i am really interested in building a pc w/ video onboard (nforce2), but the one thing i didn't know was if i could use dvi connection w/ the onboard video or do i need a separate video card. thanks. i'll hang up and listen now.
i have an old gateway gp6-300 (p2 300Mhz) w/ 80 mb ram sitting around. and my little sister said she could use a machine to do school work/email/surfing on. i want to do so very CHEAP upgrades to make that a functional pc. the mobo i know can't be upgraded and i have thought about ebaying...
i am looking to buy a 17in lcd. i prefer to buy something with a very good warranty...planar. i would also like to have dvi. but after reading through many threads, i started to realize that some lcd could be the same since they use the same substrate (?). not that i have any idea what that...
have you checked for a random screw that may have fallen on the mobo and may cause a short...long shot, but you'd be suprised. but if the web page is bombing your system out, i think that the ram may still be the culprit. did you run memtest86?
i will be doing running processor-intensive applications. does that equate to an intel or amd? i understand a little about the difference in architectures between the two but at a very rudimentary level. and i can't afford to be wrong about this...
How does this 'feel' in terms of his statement? and by feel i mean both the validity of the statement and the feel of the machine. don't mean to start a flame here but am curious.
i am getting an amd barton 2500. i don't know whether to get the retail or oem version. i wanted to know how load or quiet the stock hsf is. the hsf i would probably get if i went oem would be the artic cooling tc super silent pro.
i am looking for a nforce2 mobo for a barton 2500 retail. i am looking to find out which mobo is the most stable board stock and/or the fastest board stock. they may not be one and the same i guess. thanks
well i am looking at the slk3700 and evercase 4252 an i can't seem to decide between the two. it will house either a 2.4C or barton 2500. pete/cerb, any tie breakers between the two...cooling and quiet are my main objectives. thanks
would love to get the matrox, but a bit out of my price range i think. would an ati 8500 or 9xxx series be better than getting the nvidia mx440 (non se) or 5200 (non ultra)?
my system i am building will be a P4 2.4C on abit IS7. I am not a gamer (some thing cheesy like simcity maybe). but i would like to watch an occasional dvd on my rig. mostly do programming/web/Database work. i am looking for a video card. i don't mind spending some money ($40-80) if i...
sorry to seem ignorant, but i am new to this. i want to get either a sonata or slk3700 and want to put 120 mm fans (which i don't have a clue yet), but do i want to hook them up to the fan only connector? and what would happen if i used a fortron 120mm psu as opposed to the 380 TruPower in the...
mainstream america can live w/ a p3 600 to do everything they want. people here are the exception with the know how. at work i have 3 development pcs: p4 1.6, p4 1.8, amd 1700. i do software development and i can tell you that the p4 machines run through everything easily were as the amd...
i am looking into this deal. and i found that the mobo chipset is a 845PE w/ 1 G max 333Mhz of memory. kind of weak, but can't beat the price. i am looking into building one w/ a p4 2.4 w/ a better mobo instead of the dimension deal. but it's hard to beat this price. my BIG concern is the...
been looking at newegg. and the amd sweet spot right now seems to be the 1700 (oem) include $30 for a hsf + $52= $82. at the amd 2400 level, you're talking $25 difference between p4 and amd ($162 vs $136). but for an extra $80 you're at 1Ghz more power almost. seems like a good investment to...
actually building for me will be significantly cheaper. i have a msdn subscription which gives me access to any OS ($100-200 savings). gateway systems for a decent processor is near a grand. this pc will mostly before development and not production. i am starting a home consulting business...
foofoo appreciate your help on this greatly, thanks.
well, i'd really like to stick to my budget. but i started to think about the fact that an extra $100 or so now may make the system last another year or so, and that would probably be worth it. i may cut out the extra cd/dvd and floppy...
