    Distance to TJ Max

I would try, at all costs, to keep the delta to TJmax over 35C, especially if you are putting a lot of volts into it.. I really wanted mine to be at 40 but I'll have to lap the HS and probably IHS to get it there.. I have Tuniq 120 and @ 1.4volts and 4.1ghz it gets down to 30C to tjmax...

    Strange Problem 500FSB+ E8400

the room temp isn't that much different from day to day.. maybe maximum of 1.5C difference at any given time.. I don't think that is enough to raise the voltage that much.. I'll try lapping the cooler and putting it back on and see if that makes any difference in the stability. I think my cpu...

    Strange Problem 500FSB+ E8400

No no.. It was running at 450x9 and 500*8 but it needs 1.4125v, so i changed the multiplier to 500x7.5 and I need 1.3v or 400*8.5 I need 1.3125v but previously I only needed 1.2875v for 450x8.5 but now it needs the 1.3125 to be stable.. Like a month ago it was stable 36 hrs of orthos @ 450*8.5...

    Q6600 or E8400

only motherboard swap requires some changing of things .. still not a reformat though :) video, cpu, ram, hd, etc doesn't require really much of anything but single drivers which any os will detect

    Q6600 or E8400

Man i've had so many screwy issues with my E8400.. I would definitely keep the quad and only upgrade to a new one with the new quads are way cheaper.. Really the CPU probably won't make any difference unless you have an uber badass video card or SLI/Crossfire

    Strange Problem 500FSB+ E8400

Lol.. well, after doing a lot of tests at 4ghz it now takes 0.0250 more volts than it did previously to run at 3.8ghz which is weird.. usually processors take less after they have been run a while.. I'll try large FFT to test the ram. Ram 5-5-5-15, Corsair PC8500 1066mhz two 1gb sticks...

    Strange Problem 500FSB+ E8400

Lowering the multiplier because I need over 1.4volts to do 4ghz stable and I don't want to push it.. 3.8ghz is 1.3v Running XP SP3 32 bit, with Radeon HD3870 PCIe is locked at 100mhz so the BIOS says.. I don't have any other way of testing it, if it was the PCIe then 450mhz bus wouldn't work...

    Strange Problem 500FSB+ E8400

I did 1 hour of OCCT RAM test.. I did 16 hours of Orthos Blend test with no errors. I really don't think it's the Video card or drivers, but I'm setting it back to 450 * 8.5 which I know it works at (48+ hrs of testing and playing games for days..) and i'll see what happens. I did notice...

    Strange Problem 500FSB+ E8400

Orthos stable 16+ hours at 500FSB * 8 and *7.5 but when I load up 3d games , and I tried different games, they crash fairly quickly. Has anyone else experienced this?? I tried many voltage settings.. IT must be something with corruption on the PCI-E bus but what would be causing that...

    IX38 QUAD GT 137 AR

At 1.3875V under the heavyest load I can put on it I see it dip top 1.36 , but hovers around 1.37 or 1.38 back and forth I guess depending on what orthos is doing at the current moment:) . I guess that's not too bad but I don't have a quad cpu to really load it up. my PWM peak current is...

Help Overclocking E8400 on P5E3 Premium

There is no reason any E8400 shouldn't run at 400 fsb .. 400*9 should be no problem. You can set it at 400*8 and then try and get it stable, or 400*7.5 and you can probably rule out the cpu. Running the memory at 1600 probably requires a lot more MCH(NB) voltage and maybe a tad more DDR...

    IX38 QUAD GT 137 AR

There is no performance difference between the IP35 and IX38 right now. Maybe with the newer CPUs and later BIOS revisions the IX38 will pull ahead but if you already have an IP35 or similar board there's no reason to upgrade. Even E8400 on IX38 is no difference. IMHO they haven't got the...

Listen.. the first thing you have to do is make sure your FSB is ok, especially with E8x00 Set the multiplier so that the cpu is as close as possible to the factory 3ghz. Set the CPU voltage maybe just 1 notch higher than default. Set the FSB to whatever you want like 450, set the ram...

How much CPU power does Skype require?

If you are just using sound, the processing is very little, but if you include video then it will really use the cpu. I think the 1.2ghz celeron-m would be fine as long as you weren't running anything else. It seems to work with full video on an old p4 2.2ghz with pc2700 ram doing HD...

    E8400 Voltage worries

I have to set mine 1.35 to get to 4ghz.. and I don't know if it's stable until I do 36+ hours of prime without fail.. I won't settle for less :> Realtemp shows maximum temps 53/58C , my system temp is about 30C Cpu in BIOS is 1.35 and under load is 1.34. ABIT IX38. MCH 1.50v, CPU VTT...

is my e8400 core temp too high or normal?

I tried the same thing with my E8400.. One of my core temps is like 52 and other is 62 under maximum load/heat in prime95. Mine's at 3.9ghz 455x 8.5 with 1.3v. 36 hours of orthos without an error so I'm happy. I tried running it at 500x8 and it wasn't stable, and it wasn't really a whole...

You are going to have to up the FSB termination which I think defaults to 1.10 , you need about 1.25, and the VDIMM I am almost positive you are going to need at least 2.1v or more for 1600mhz unless that OCZ ram specifically says 1.9v and even then i'd bump it up a notch 2.0 or so. I...

    Nvidia's <$45 processing platform

THey make it sound like it's an integrated motherboard/cpu/video. Basically non upgradable, probably not many external ports, but extremely cheap. This would be perfect for my kids' computers. The only problem is.. Who cares if the hardware is $50 when stupid Vista is $200+ I'd buy $150...

e8400 greatly improves game performance over an e21XX?

Well E8400 is 3ghz and 21xx is 2ghz so yes it's going to make a difference. 1MB cache vs 6MB cache.. If you overclock the E2 to 3ghz then the difference will be significantly smaller, enough that I wouldn't bother buying the E8400, unless of course you can overclock it to 4ghz, but that's a...

    E6600--->E8400

It *could*, but the fact that you flashed it and it is still working means it's probably alright. I think you have a Windows problem. You can always try reflashing it, or clearing CMOS turning off power and taking the battery out for an hour.

    New CPU Advice

Don't bother buying a new processor.. Just overclock the one you have a little bit. My rule of thumb is .. Until some game or program or application comes out that will not work the way I want to on my computer then I don't upgrade. I still use p4 2.something for my work machine and it's...

    E6600--->E8400

It sounds like you have a windows issue to deal with and probably not a CPU problem. I would boot up in safe mode and check the drivers, remove any you don't need and then boot up in normal mode and check the processes in task manager and see if any are using any cpu and note which ones.. get...

Has anyone done close to 500FSB on X38 boards?

LOL :) I'm dissappointed, I wanted a 1ghz overclock :P It's running stable at 451x8.5 I'd post a screenshot if I could but it looks like I have to put the file on a server somewhere instead of uploading it here. Almost 120mhz FSB overclock so I'm happy. Don't have to have 500 as long as...

Has anyone done close to 500FSB on X38 boards?

If it's my ram, why does it help increasing the CPU voltage? I tried setting the ram to 2.275 volts even and it's rated at 2.1 At 500FSB I tried MCH 1.55 CPU VTT 1.40 CPU 1.38 DDR 2.275 The GTLREF, DDR VTT I left alone and I bumped up the ICH stuff by .05 It won't even run at 500FSB...

Has anyone done close to 500FSB on X38 boards?

Yea.. That's my feeling on the matter. I could probably run it at 520 and 4.2ghz or something but it would not be stable. Stable is orthos/prime blend test using 2gb ram for more than 12 hours at least, preferably 24h. Nothing else matters if you can't use the darn thing. I expect my...

Divider 1:1.20 needs more CPU voltage than 1:1 ???

So it's normal to need more CPU voltage even if I crank the NB and VTT for 1:1.20 ? Man that's weird. I don't remember having to do that on my AMD, or my old p4. I remember having 1200 FSB on my p4 northwood.. That was the day :> This E8400 is the most finicky cpu I've dealt with.. It can...

Divider 1:1.20 needs more CPU voltage than 1:1 ???

I don't understand exactly why I can run my CPU at FSB 460 with 1:1 divider and it's about 1.26v to do that, but at 1:1.20 divider for the ram it's 1.31v to run it.. How could there possibly be that much difference between simply switching dividers? It must require more current on the cpu...

MY E8400 will do 3.6ghz at 1.20v or less, but it takes 1.3v to get to 3.8ghz.. Once you get close to 4ghz the thing just wants more and more volts, and quick! Would suggest for anyone 400FSB * 9 which is 3600mhz and 1:1 ratio for 800mhz ram with tight timings.. This exact setup really flies...

    Q9300 Temps

All the 45nm chips seem to run hot.. The dual cores are exactly the same. I think either the temp is just bugged or it's reading it differently than the previous ones. The best thing to do is look at coretemp and tell it to show temp distance to TjMAX. That would be the easiest way to...
