Depends what resolution you play at and which games really. I game at 1900x1200 so cpu doesn't come into for most games bar a few like GTAIV. I expected the quad to help in l4d2 but not at this res :(
seems stable at 3.6ghz with 1.38v bios (1.32windows). GTAIV is really smooth now and dragon age has a bit of improvement. Other games don't seem to have any improvement though - I could of almost bought an ati 5850 and have better performance overall D:
meh I ended up buying a q9550 e0 tonight - in the middle of linpack testing 3.2ghz at stock volts 19/20 done.
vcore selection is strange with the 18beta2 bios as the lowest i can select is 1.30v. Hope to hit 3.4/3.6ghz :D
is anyone using a q9550 e0 with this mobo? I'm getting bored of this dual now and GTAIV and dragon age origins doesn't run smooth enough for my standards :( even at 4.2ghz (1.46vcore bios :p).
Tung you're still having problems it seems :(
Think I might just get an i5 750 setup and be done with...
Hey Tung I flashed it using a usb key. I flashed it to 18 when I had the q6600 in preparation for my e8500.
Follow this guide to create a bootable usb http://forums.extremeoverclock...owthread.php?p=3435838
Sorry didn't see this. My thread subscription is off or broken bah.
Hey Tung, i do have a e8500 but it's c0 stepping along with bios 18 final installed.
Maybe installing the new cpu is just bringing up your previous instability issues up quicker somehow and the cpu is fine.
You just...
ah break-in sounds more like it. I don't know what this means but raising vcore to 1.38 makes me bsod instantly booting into windows which I don't quite understand yet? what's this symptom mean? Shouldn't I be able to raise vcore one notch and not have a negative effect like that?
I guess...
It's the chipset near the output area of the mobo (sound/lan/kb etc). It shows up at AUX if you use Speedfan.
The blue heatsink on the right of this pic:
http://images.devshed.com/dh/s...es/ABIT_IP35_E/10.jpeg
are these symptoms happening when OCed and at stock speeds? what's the vcore that you've set at stock speed?
I don't think there's anyway to tell which stepping you'll get from a store like amazon.
PS. by the way my e8500 is no longer linpack stable at 4ghz. Haven't spent much time testing...
hey TungFree, why the move to dual from the q6600? is this because of the PWM temps? I'm actually considering going back to quad but probably with a different mobo this time. I gained a lot of performance for TF2 when it didn't have multicore support but since it's fixed I think I'd rather have...
I've got an old 40gb lying around the house which my dad decided to connect to his PII machine. When this hd is connected the pc no longer powers on which leads me to believe that there is a short. Removing the hd allowed the pc to boot as normal. After a while this PC stops POSTing.
Testing...
Sorry for the late reply kashk - Yep I was doing 1.5v for 3.3ghz but gave up in the end as PWM temps were through the roof when priming (90c+). Oh yeah don't forgot about the vdroop also.
I've swapped it out for a e8500 since as I didn't like the quad punishing my mobo like that :P
have you guys seen the posts from people who pass linpack but fail prime? it makes me kind of doubtful just to rely on linpack at the moment. Saying that I still make sure to pass 20.
I like to prime small fft / blend, occt and linpack to make sure it's stable as you can't seem to be sure otherwise :(
I love linpack's ability to save time but it doesn't seem to give reliable results on some machines according to posts on forums :S So it's really hard just to rely on one...
Ah I'll give it a shot i think - Thanks Bryan. I've seen a few posts about people breaking their ip35-e with flashing and it makes me a bit wary as things are working at the moment :o
ps.
I've updated to the 16 bios now and vdroop looks the same!
yeah the pwm only really heats up that high in prime/linpack - it doesn't reach 84c normally ofc :P
I might give the newer bios a shot although it's working well with 14 final at the moment.
You're gonna need to strap a fan to the pwm if you stick a quad onto that ip35-e and overclock. My pwm is peaks at 84c with q6600 at 3.3ghz with 1.50vcore bios. That temp is with a 40mm minikaze strapped just in front of the pwm!
I'm guessing pwm temp will be lower with a 45nm quad though.
My q6600 needs 1.50vcore in bios (1.432 vdroop) to do 3.3ghz. (prime\linpack stable) :( I'm still tempted to try 1.56vcore for 3.4ghz though as I'm only hitting 60c whilst priming.
Thanks for the detailed response mindless1!
I've set the ratio 1:1.25 instead, my ram is running at 832mhz
bumped vtt, ich, mch up a notch each.
vcore still at stock - lol prime crashed but without rebooting machine?
Usually it reboots with 5-6mins of prime small fft...
I'm using the ratio 1:1.20? can't remember off my head but it's keeping the memory at 798mhz. Should I still loosen my memory timings if they're at spd timing?
I kept VTT, ICH, MCH at stock voltages since i keep hearing of people not needing to adjust them at low fsbs like 333.
At 333x9...
Have I got a bad overclocking q6600 guys? :[
I can't seem to do 333x9 with stock volts or even up to 1.36v. It fails Prime small fft in a few mins. I have a vid of 1.3250v. It's prime small fft and blend stable at stock.
I've made sure my ddr is running at rated speeds, volts and timing...
Greetings all,
I recently bought this external usb hdd caddy - works fine except for the fact that it freezes my modem (speedtouch 780) every single time it is switched on. Network access seems ok but internet goes down.
Anyone know why this happens? :o
Thanks in advance.
yeah I'm definitely extremely lucky, I pulled off all the files i needed and the drive seems to be working still :o
I paid $50 total for the drive (40gb) $38 for international shipping :S
This is how closely they match :D - what are the chances of me finding this close a match just after...
I finally received the hd this afternoon and it works! :DD The thing i find strange is my luck finding an almost exact hd on ebay o_o same model/firmware/site code
ah no luck with the usb enclosure :[
i opened the smaller hd up and i noticed on the pcb that one of the chips has a giant hole in it :o
anyone know a good place for 2nd hand/old hds other than ebay? I'm located in the uk. - I'm going to try replacing the logic board next.
i looked on the cpu support page and it seem ok http://global.msi.com.tw/index...cat2_no=&cat3_no=#menu
although i don't mind so much about the machine at the moment - it's the data from the hd that needs help :[
yup i did make sure the mobo could accept the processer - although i didn't know the condition since i got it from work, where we have a big pile of p3s dumped in a big box together.
