Except there aren't many large forums switching from vBulletin to FuseTalk as far as I can tell.

    Would you work for FuseTalk?

If you have the opportunity, would you work at FuseTalk. Beyond the question of being able to charge thousands for what others give away (or charge a few hundreds for), I'm hoping people here might have some direct experience with the company.

    Reliable long-term storage

I firmly believe that if you want "reliable" storage, you need to think "not in my house". There's a ton of things that can go wrong even in a NAS with redundancy - the most likely being that you realize something is wrong when its too late. You should at least be _looking_ at online...

SSD on the way... what next?

Win7 detects the SSD and adjusts settings accordingly. These are things you can do yourself, like disabling defrag and the likes. There are tools that help you do this, like SSD Tweaker (never used it, just heard about it). I believe the Agility doesn't work well with ACHI, but that might be...

    Which hardware marked you most?

I'm going to list two (deal with it). By far, my #1 would be high speed internet (dsl or cable). We went from text-based BBS (LORD!!) and mud games, to youtube and WoW. The other one has to be SSDs. The technology is in its infancy buts its still orders of magnitude faster than its...

Best online retailers for pc components?

In Canada its ncix hands down - good prices, large selection, decent shipping, and price matching. They have a US sales/site as well, but it doesn't seem as good for Americans as their main site is for Canadians.

    drobo alternative

Sorry, when I said "doesn't scale" I meant "doesn't scale as well as other solutions with respect to cost" and then went on to explain the hard drive cost of duplication and how that proved to be a limiting factor for me (to the point where building a replacement my machine was actually cheaper...

    drobo alternative

I agree that you should just build your own and put whatever OS you want. I recently built an Unraid server after using WHS since its first availability (I bought an HP EX470 when they first became available). I much prefer Unraid over WHS for the simple fact that it scales much better. WHS...

$800 Core i5 Gaming Build Critique?

Pretty sure that MB supports SLI. Do you ever plan on running 2 NVidia cards in there? If not, you can probably shave off ~$15 or so by getting a non-sli supporting mobo from whichever manufacturer you fancy.

Exactly..by the time you need it, you'll either find it for less, or have better options available for the same money. Waiting, in this case, is a win-win.

What to pick - Single SSD or WD Caviar Black RAID 1

    NAS / UnRaid Build

Its actually helpful to see that. I have a spare Core 2 duo 8400 w/8gigs of ram with a decent 775 motherboard and a nice p182 case. I guess I was trying to go for a super-efficient build, and maximize my external bays + mobo SATAs. But with that controller, and the fact that I really don't...

    New monitor killing my eyes

Yesterday I received two Philips Brilliance 240PW9EB. As soon as I started using them, my eyes started to hurt real bad. NAS / UnRaid Build

I'm looking to replace my WHS with something that has more capacity, and am thinking of building my own UnRaid (or something) machine. The thing will be sitting in a basement, so noise isn't a very big factor. for the HDD's I'd likely get a bunch of 1TB WD Greens for data and a 1TB WD Black...

    New Build

There are plenty of benchmarks that show that a single 5870 rocks. Anand's review had a single one doing 169 fps at that resolution with max settings and no AA on Arkham Asylum or 61.2 on Farcray 2 with max settings and 4xAA.

    New Build

Looks like you got the core of what you need. You pretty much just need to get a mobo that you like. If you don't plan on going SLI/Crossfire, then you might be able to save by getting an i7-860 and a mobo that doesn't have crossfire. The 5870 is nice...to be honest, I'm waiting for non...

    Considering SSD

I'm about 50% sure that the Kingston SSDNow V is very different depending on if you get the 40gb model, or the "other" models. I think the 40gb is the only one running the Intel controller, while the 64 and 128 are running some other controller w/no cache. That's definitely something you...

    ~$1200 Gaming PC

ncix will try to price match other online canadian retailers (and almost always will)...its an option as you are checking out. I find TD the most expensive of those three. A 5870 will eat up 1/3 of your budget. Anyways, if you don't plan on doing sli/crossfire...I'd go with something like...

Any reccomendations for a hosting company with a dedicated server?

softlayer is widely loved. netdepot is nice because they let you "buydown" - in that you pay ahead of time and lower the cost..or even buy out upgrade. If you plan on having your server for more than 6 months, the buydown is always the best deal - assuming you can afford the upfront cost...

    1080P Gaming Build Advice

Do you have a monitor, or is that expected as part of the build within the budget? If you don't have one, what size are you hoping for? Ur probably looking at an i5 750, w/an ATI 4890 ..but the budget will be tight.

    xmas gift choice

I'd get a monitor, its the one that'll drop the least in price. If you are looking at a long-term build gaming build, a video card is really a bad buy right now because ur paying top dollars for next-gen stuff (5870), despite knowing that in 3 months, things will have completely changed.

i5 SLI/CF, Antec P182SE.. Need input on parts list please

The DDR3-2000 seems like overkill. I'd get 1600. The HT of a i7 860 for 3D modeling might be a sound investment (over the i5 750). You might want to look at the tools you are using, and check out those forums to see how much they take advantage of it. Similar thoughts on your video card...

Plz advise on first time build

Looks good. If you aren't planning on doing sli/crossfire, stick with the 650. I'm also not sure what the extra $30 on a the P7P55D Pro (vs non-pro) gets you if you aren't planning on doing SLI (it might do something, but I couldn't really tell). Memory timing isn't going to make any type of...

    Slow With Technology

That's a good point. I'm not suggesting that Dell doesn't add value, or even that it isn't a good value to start off with. I'm just giving him options. Maybe he has a friend or son or someone that can help out with all those things. NCIX will put a computer together and install the OS for $50.

    Slow With Technology

That 4350 is going to leave you hurting. I'm also surprised that they are doing 3x1gb instead of 2x2gb. I don't mind the dell, or the dell-route, but for comparison sake, this is what I was building up for you. Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz...

Opinion on core i5 gaming build

Anyone recogmend a new card for me?

If you don't care for directx 11, you should consider a GTX 260 (NVidia) or 4870 (ATI). If you want to spend a bit more (and can find them) + to get a bit more longevity (DX11) out of your card, the new 5850 might be the right choice.
