    Cars from 1980

What kind of cars from 1980 would be worth working on? By that I mean something interesting, fun, non-exotic (expensive), worth working on as a hobby. I'm curious because I'd like a project car someday, and 1980 would be a good model year since I was born in '80. 1981 would make sense too...

My Last Day At Intel Is Today

I want feedback on my last trouble ticket. Did I go too far? I know the spelling sucks, but whatever. Most people do little things like make a ticket for fires or put "W00T I'M GONE!" in their tickets. I wanted to one-up them. Any other Excell/Compucom folks at Intel here? Here it is...

My wife wants to get a book published

She's sent it to multiple places and got no call backs. Think this would be a good place to get feedback if she posts an excerpt? Her confidence is shaken. I'm completely illiterate and unable to help her. Im hoping she'll get enough encouragement to make a login. Otherwise, any...

    What's a 486 worth now days? A jamming officejet?

So it looks like this would be $30 on ebay? $20 in the real world? $15 without the floppy? 486DX2 66Mhz 20MB Mem 420MB HD 2x CDROM Soundblaster 16 No floppy drive And I have an officejet 500 that jams, sometimes. No consistancy at all, on some days it'll do it a few times, it's gone two weeks...

    I bought Jumpgate for $10.

I'm so happy, it's $15 after shipping. It'll cost $10 a month, but oh well. If I play for 3 months it'll be like any other game, if I pay for it more it's worth more to me (I average 2 months on a game). I can't wait though, I loved Privateer. Some people say Jumpgate is too boring, but man...

I need some help with server parts.

First, is this a good case? Enlight 8950 I'd want the SCSI module: The 8700 But, is it compatable with this: Thunder K7 (S2462UNG)? As in the PS, I see no official word. And, as for the mobo, can you use this: AAA-131U2? Otherwise, no point for onboard SCSI. Maybe this is a better choice...

    Your new ATT@Home Settings

Looks like it's just good old DHCP! No host name, no DNS settings, no workgroup needed. I renamed my router, removed it's domain, and reset it, got me 12.x.x.x address. I kind of like this. I wonder if we get unlimited IP's now. :) This is with ATT cable addess. Edit: Here's the new settings.

    Socket Programming!

It is so odd, frustrating, hard, but interesting. I hate it and love it. I'm having to skip class today because an assignment (my inro to sockets) is so hard on me. Jesus. Anyone here mess with this crap for a living, or want to bitch about them with me? I'd like to hear what people are doing...

Question about defrost for other Sentra/200SX owners

Anyone know if defrost uses the AC? I'd like to know before I figure it out after two months of wasting gas on the freeway. Why do I care? I drove a V6 Chevy for a few years that lossed at least 5mpg with the AC on.

I live in a 30 unit apartment building, with both cinderblock walls and 4" concrete floors. I'm in the center of the building, the farthest apartment is radially maybe 200ft away, 20ft below. What do you guys think, would it be possible to whore out my cable modem? What kind of range does...

    AI Programming

Why is Lisp supposed to be so great, or why that particular language type? I've lookied around, code samples are too hard to read, and explanations seem to be "How to program Lisp" and "AI Programming" with no "Why do AI in Lisp" around, except for a few books which I don't want to buy.

    Full v. Half size spares

Is it worth getting a full size spare? I'd imagine it'd be handy to be able to wait on replacing the tire if you are busy or short on cash (the possibility I am worried about, with college).

From Prizms to Civics to Proteges, we now have a 200SX.

Well, my fiance and I bought a '97 Nissan 200SX SE-R last night. It's got about 90K on it. That nice little 2.0L I4, a 5 speed, power sunroof, power windows and locks. Got home 6 hours ago, and gave the saleman some checks (he followed us on our 100 mile drive to get them, must have been a good...

2 Parts: Hyundai's and the 1997 Nissan Sentra

My fiance and I are going to sell our cars, and with some tax-evasion cash from my mom get a new(er) car. We have an 89 Civic and 90 Corsical, looks like we might get $4000-$4500 for them. I'd like to spend, on top of that, $3000 or less. So, would a '96 or '97 Nissan Sentra be a good choice...

So the Chevy Prism is a Toyota imported from Japan?

Hmm, sounds like a good route to go when buying a used car? Toyota quality at a Chevy price? We are also condering Honda Civic's from the Mid 90's, and are going to look at Toyota's and Nissans when we bother going to that side of town.

    What a nightmare

My latest OS installs turned out to be a real nightmare. Is there some sort of problem with Grub and booting NTFS? Is this from PM? Did I do something really really bad? This is what happened: First I used partition magic 5 to grow my boot partition from 100MB to a little over a gig. It ended...

I just realized that Crucial misshipped and sent me ECC RAM

After being in my system for a good 6 months, I noticed today that one of my DIMM's is ECC, which the other is not. The markings sure aint obvious. Does mixing ECC and not have consequences? It was fine in my AMB based Duron system, my MVP3 based system seems not to care (it's installing...

Anyone got a Banshee running in Linux?

With XFree86? How? Mine hates it, I've tried a couple distros. I can only use it with the vesa driver, tdfx causes vertical lines and other generic corruption. I still can't get a good kernel compiled to try to get frame buffer devices working -- think that's the problem?

    SSL Keys, Is This Secure?

So, I want to encrypt my POP3 with SSL. I enabled pop3s in Xinetd, and set Outlook Express (talk about me being into security, eh?) to use SSL with my server, port 995. pagesile.sys questions

If I was bored, it would be best to have Speed Disk put it at the "end" of the drive right? Because that's where it spins the fastest? And, if I have a pagefile on multiple hard drives, would it be striped and quicker, or just used like a JBOD RAID array? Use up one then move on..

    JumpGate looks cool

A massively multiplayer game, like Privateer. Man, I loved Privateer. I saw it at Gamespot listed as the fourth mose popular game, but don't see it at stores. Not listed for release until Q4, so I guess "most popular" has nothing to do with sales? Hmmm. Anyone heard of this, got news?

I have an ATI Rage Pro based PCI display adapter, the Xpert 98. It's graced with an incompatability: to work as a display adapter in a multi-adapter Win2K system, it has to be primary.
