Downloading torrents freezing my Vista64 Gaming Rig

Thanks guys for your replies. I attempted to reinstall the drivers, and the issue changed. (I also recalled after doing so that I had already attempted this awhile back with the same result.) The problem after reinstalling the drivers is that I am unable to connect to my working internet...

Downloading torrents freezing my Vista64 Gaming Rig

I have a solid gaming rig that has been stable and working well since I built it in late July of 2008. The only big problem it has is that whenever a torrent begins to download in uTorrent, bittorrent, or even Blizzard's download manager, the system locks up completely. The screen does not...

Thermaltake USB2 Internal Header Extensions Color Coding

Hello Again! So I have the Thermaltake Armor VA8003BWS with an IP35 Pro inside. I recently had Thermaltake send me USB2 extensions for the top-mounted USB ports and am concerned about whether or not I have set them up correctly. They are USB2 connectors with the following appearance: 10...

    New Gaming Rig Freezing Infrequently

Any ideas? It hasn't occurred in about a week now, but it is still disconcerting given that nothing was resolved.

    New Gaming Rig Freezing Infrequently

Thanks for your responses! I forgot to mention my power supply lol. I decided to go a bit overkill with the available power (in case I wanted to switch to SLI w/ new mobo in the future) and purchased the Antec 850W TruePower Quattro. Unfortunately, I still need to purchase a multimeter, but I'll...

    stupid math question.

In the case of functions that are defined on a close interval [a,b] and continuous on (a,b) where a<x<b, yes. Otherwise, this advise leads to false statements fast. Simple example of this advice failing: compute the limit as x approaches 0 of f(x) = 1/x, where x is any negative real number.

    New Gaming Rig Freezing Infrequently

Well, for some reason PC Wizard keeps crashing on my system immediately after it's opened. I did, however, use GPU-Z to look at the temps as best I could (not a lot in terms of logging the temp while in the background...or at least that I can see). I don't know how reliable the sensor data is...

    New Gaming Rig Freezing Infrequently

Thank you for your reply, jordanpr! As I mentioned at the end of my first post, I was looking for some diagnostics software, and you just so happened to point me to an old favorite of mind that I had completely forgotten about! I'll *ahem* force myself to play CoD4 for several hours tonight for...

    New Gaming Rig Freezing Infrequently

I've had my new gaming rig all set up now for over two weeks (longer than that if you include the time before I gave up on installing linux w/ all my "windows only" peripherals / drivers). Everything is working REALLY well except an occasional freeze. Here is my set up: MoBo: abit IP35 Pro...

    [RESOLVED] Case Fan Daisy-Chaining Question

Awesome, ther00kie16, thanks!! I had read a bunch of articles on doing the whole daisy chain set up with molex components, and this is what I thought would be the case. But I was too paranoid to do this without some confirmation from other users. Thanks again! :D Now I can go finish up my build!

    [RESOLVED] Case Fan Daisy-Chaining Question

Hello again, Anandtech! I've been building my first monster build (at least by my standards...not so much anymore) and have a question regarding the case fans. I am using the Antec Quattro 850W PSU inside the Thermaltake Armor VA8000B, with all its fans in tact other than the front and back...

Are newegg's extended warranty plans worth it?

So I'm about to make my first purchase from newegg (abit ip35 pro and some corsair ram) and am wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether it's worth coughing up the additional ~$25 to pay for the newegg 1 Year Replacement Plan. Has anyone had a positive/negative experience with this plan? Thanks!

    Powerhouse Motherboards for the Q6600

One more question I forgot to post. How does the ip35 pro stack up when compared to the ASUS P5K3 Deluxe? Is it worth the upgrade to the p5k3? This is my last board consideration before getting the ip35 pro.

    Powerhouse Motherboards for the Q6600

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement! I'll definitely be going with the IP35 Pro. It seems far too good an opportunity to pass up. @bryanW1995: I'm definitely going with WD6400AAKS unless something my plans change drastically. What occurs on June 18? Is a new card coming out? Thanks...

    Powerhouse Motherboards for the Q6600

Hi guys! Thanks so much for your quick replies! @dr150 and Heidfirst: I definitely appreciate the confidence boost. I've been following it on newegg for quite awhile and am impressed with the amount of positive reviews. My concerns stem from the DOA reviewers and the apparently poor marks...

    Powerhouse Motherboards for the Q6600

As I'm sure many of you have seen, NewEgg's weekly newsletter has the abit IP35 Pro for 129.99 after mail in rebate for subscribers. This is one of several boards that are left after I've spent a couple weeks narrowing down computer parts for my first build (for myself -- I've built a couple for...

[RESOLVED] To Wait or Not to Wait: Nehalem on the Horizon

That's what I was saying in my last post. I forgot that the performance gain between an OC'ed Q6600 and an OC'ed Q6700 is nominal. As such, I'll be getting the Q6600 and tweak it as planned. :) @Zenoth: For sure. I'm going with the Q6600 since the Nehalem is a long ways off for me (I'd have...

[RESOLVED] To Wait or Not to Wait: Nehalem on the Horizon

$179?! Oh awesome! I actually just went back on newegg after my last post and did more research. (My semester just ended, and I haven't looked at this stuff since last summer when I was going to make the purchase the first time...before my financial aid award was messed up.) The Q6600 definitely...

[RESOLVED] To Wait or Not to Wait: Nehalem on the Horizon

Thanks to each of you for replying! I was thinking along similar lines regarding as you guys regarding the price. What you said, myocardia, also makes sense regarding falling behind further by waiting. Given the current price of the QX6850 is even outside my reach, and an Anandtech article from...

[RESOLVED] To Wait or Not to Wait: Nehalem on the Horizon

So I'm an undergrad still running a computer that was purchased in my sophomore year of high school (a Dell no less. :() and am in need of a change. I've been into computer hardware for several years now and have helped build some of my friends computers / built a couple for fun from old parts...
