I transferred my entire Documents folder from my desktop running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional to my laptop running 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium over my home network, and if I view the properties of the files on both OSs, the number of files and total file sizes are different between the...
I ended up getting this DDR3 1600 memory from G.Skill. It was on the list of supported memory modules for the Gigabyte motherboard I mentioned earlier, and it turns out that motherboard does support DDR3 1600 (and DDR3 2200, incidentally).
So far I have the case and memory, and will be...
Yeah, because the one you recommended is $50 more after rebate. That's a pretty significant jump and I'd rather save that money or put it to some other piece of hardware.
The only potential issue is that the 550VX has "Extra long cables support full tower size chassis." I already ordered the...
I doubt it's you, but thank you for clarifying what went wrong. I see it's all memory problems, so if I go with a P55-based system, I'll definitely be very careful about what memory I choose. But your experiences also have me looking at the AMD platform again.
I also noticed online that...
What kinds of troubles, I wonder?
EDIT: I'm starting to think I should be able to get away with 550W, right?
Corsair CMPSU-550VX 550W power supply
It's only $70 after rebate. I'm trying to keep costs down, so that's looking good to me.
Uses: Gaming at 1080p (may also try to use the Dolphin and PCSX2 emulators), programming (games and school), Photoshop, maybe video creation/editing, general use
Budget: $1000 at most. $800 is more preferable.
Other: Buying in the US; no brand preferences; using the same monitor and...
Anandtech seems to really like the Core i5-750. But you say the Phenom II X4's are close enough in performance to make the i5 not worth it...
But that's for which specific Phenom II X4 models and in which usage scenarios?
I've been out of the loop for a long time. Catching up on GPUs was relatively easy because of ATi's recent Evergreen launches and Anandtech's coverage of them, but what's the current situation on CPUs?
I'm looking at these Athlon, Phenom, Core 2, Core i5, Core i7, slapping numbers like II or...
Just going to throw this in here:
I'm actually interested in PC gaming now more than ever, mostly because of the new crossover with consoles. Many of my favorite series (especially Japanese games) are now heading to PC, giving me much less of a reason to buy games for my consoles, when I can...
I see.
Well, using input lag as the only (or the most major) criteria, would the BenQ G2400WD still be the best, in all of history (as far as you know)?
Alright alright, then how about good ones, not just decent ones?
Well actually, it's pretty hard to find the G2400WD right now, so if I'm going to be looking at buying a hard-to-find monitor, I might as well look all the way into the past.
What I mean is, what's the best 1920 x 1200...
xt,
What do you see in the future for 1920 x 1200 resolution monitors, especially for gaming-happy models? Is the horizon basically filled with 1080p only?
I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and hunt down a BenQ G2400WD now, or wait until October to buy a new monitor as I was...
Do you happen to still have your entry for the 2493HM that you had on the list? I'm still interested in reading the input lag measurements and notes you had listed for it.
xt,
Are you planning on modifying your recommendations soon regarding the BenQ G2400WD and Samsung 2493HM, since they have both been listed as 'deactivated items' on Newegg for a while now?
I mean, it's probably a good idea to keep them in your list until they're basically nowhere to be...
I have reason to believe there may be some kind of trojan or proxy on my PC. Can anyone tell me what they see here?

Well, I just opened up an iTunes M4A file with Notepad and one of the first things I saw was my full name, so I think it's probably more than just my email address and my date of purchase that's embedded.
Any other information on iTunes or Amazon downloads and embedding personal information...
So I recently read on DailyTech that iTunes' DRM-free songs embed your personal information in each M4A file, and I asked this question in the comments section of that news story, but I didn't get an answer, so again, do Amazon's MP3 downloads embed personal information in each MP3 file?
Just...
OK, that was strange... But it works now. It may have been a problem with overbearing anti-virus software, as the laptop was running Norton and the desktop was running McAfee. I totally removed Norton on the laptop and replaced it with AntiVir, and I disabled the firewall on McAfee on the...
Hi all,
I'm working on someone else's home network. Here's what they have:
Desktop PC running Windows XP SP3
Laptop PC running Windows Vista SP1
Printer connected directly to the desktop PC
What they want is to be able to print documents from the laptop on the desktop PC's printer...
I decided to do this:
1. Use Exact Audio Copy to make a single WAV image of the CD, along with a CUE sheet for it.
2. Use Exact Audto Copy to split the WAV file created in Step 1 into separate WAV files for each track on the CD, based on the CUE sheet created in Step 1.
3...
Yes, Windows Media Player has Windows Media Audio Lossless and lossless WAV ripping options, but ripping the audio into those formats is not the same as making an image of the audio CD.
I want to make images that I can mount to virtual drives or burn "directly" onto blank CD-Rs.
Thanks for...
I want to make images of all my audio CDs to preserve the original discs (I wouldn't have to use the original discs anymore), so I need to be able to make perfect images of them that I can then re-burn to blank CD-Rs, or mount to virtual drives where they would behave as if I had the original...
Quality is obviously the most important thing in a list of the best LCDs, but the DS-265W is cheaper than the Planar, so that's something to consider. Unless it's got some serious problems, I think it warrants a mention in the list.... I think...
I'm just looking for a state of affairs on integrated graphics nowadays. Is the 9400M (like in the new MacBook) at least as powerful as the old 6600 GT?
Cool, thanks. :D
Yeah, I saw the option in the BIOS to set the hard drive to run as IDE, RAID, etc. It was defaulted to IDE, so I left it at that, and I'm glad I did. :D
Hi,
I'm installing Windows XP Home SP2 on a friend's new build right now. He's only got one hard drive, and it's on SATA. (His single CD drive is on IDE, no floppy drive). However, Windows setup detected the SATA hard drive without pressing F6 to install any SATA drivers, and the SATA hard...
Thanks. The DS-265W is just, like, a repackaging of the DS-263N, though, isn't it?
comma, comma ,,, ,,comma, comma, comma
Edit: Added some more commas.
Yep yep, I just tested it, and only the Windows Aero color scheme has vsync enabled. With the Windows Vista Basic, Windows Standard, and Windows Classic color schemes, tearing is still present.
Yay, I finally have vsync in Windows... :)
Edit: Just fixed some formatting...
Oh, I'm 99% sure my monitor is being sent a 75 Hz signal and that the monitor is refreshing 75 times per second. My question is what happens when a game is running below 75 fps. Say, like 40 fps...or 60 fps... Like, before the 75 Hz signal is even sent out, something has to happen to bring...
Quick question. I run my LCD monitor at 1280 x 1024 75 Hz. But what happens when I play, for example, a game locked to 60 fps? Are 15 frames doubled every second to get the refresh rate up to 75 Hz?
