Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

OK, final update. I put a 1GB stick in the memory slot that is supposedly faulty to make 3GB, working perfectly! I suppose that'll have to do. The saga ends. Please just let this thread die. On a related note, I can't recommend Intel's x25 SSD enough, getting 20 second boot up time here (30...

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

Interesting update. I tried swapping RAM between the two memory slots. I seem to have intemittent problems with slot 2, but slot 1 is fine, with either memory module. It's interesting, I tried slot 2 and it took ages to boot up, but once booted, it was responably fast, so I rebooted but it...

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

It's an ASUS Lamborghini VX2S http://usa.asus.com/products.a...model=1782&modelmenu=2 Mobo is intel PM965 Express Chipset Santa Rosa (the first chipset where intel introduced the flash cache chip), Southbridge is ICH8-M. http://www.intel.com/cd/produc...ng/chipsets/345162.htm

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

I have a hunch it could be a memory mapping issue with other devices (eg. graphics card) own memory not being correctly mapped outside the 4GB range. On 32bit OS's you don't get the full 4GB because your graphic card probably has 512MB which needs to get mapped within that 4GB range limit, so...

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

I'm not using a Marvel NIC, it's a built in intel Gigabit network card, and built in intel wireless adaptor, but thanks for the link.

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

Many generations old, are you kidding me! I was top of the line only two years ago, granted it's not nthe latest and gratest now, but it still works with a Penryn 45nm CPU which I believe is the latest/faster mobile CPU intel currently make. I'm pretty sure this motherboard is still being sold...

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

And in case you think it's the memory, I placed each memory module in seperately. Both seem fine, still same excellent performance, it's only when both used together, and with 64bit OS, that I have problems.

Intel x25 SSD G2 - Slower than normal

OK, I've finally fixed it. Turns out there's some weird compatibility issue with using 4GB RAM on my laptop with a 64bit OS. I've posted about it here http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2326418&enterthread=y OK, updated benchmarks: Seq: Read 258.3 MB/s | Write 73.78 MB/s 512K: Read 201.2...

Terrible slowdown on 4GB system, but super speedy with 2GB - 64bit OS. WTF!?

OK, this is soo bizarre. So I bought an SSD (intel x26 160GB v2) and got a copy of Windows 7 x64. Installed everything and found the overal performance of the OS to be really slow and terrible. I even upgraded my CPU from 2.2GHz Core 2 (T7500) to a Penryn 2.6GHz (T9500), still terrible...

Intel x25 SSD G2 - Slower than normal

Definitely SATA 2 or I wouldn't be getting 240/180 MB/s in the read tests. The motherboard is intel 965m Express with ICH8-M southbridge.

Intel x25 SSD G2 - Slower than normal

That's more like it!! I just hooked it up to my desktop PC and the scores are: 4K: Read 19.38 MB/s | Write 42.85 MB/s My desktop specs are Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz (E8400), 4GB DDR3, nvidia 790i Ultra mobo. I had only just installed Vista 64bit on the desktop and didn't have time to stick SPs...

Intel x25 SSD G2 - Slower than normal

    OK, this is interesting. I tried downclocking my CPU to around 1.6GHz (down from 2.2GHz), and it dropped the random 4K read/write almost by half: Seq: Read 216.5 MB/s | Write 84.59 MB/s 512K: Read 162.7 MB/s | Write 82.97 MB/s 4K: Read 7.174 MB/s | Write 7.405 MB/s I'm convinced that...

Intel x25 SSD G2 - Slower than normal

taltamir: True, my old 7200 RPM drive gets around 1MB random read/write. It's just that other benchmarks are showing that intel drive getting higher scores. IntelUser2000: I don't seem to have an AHCI option in my BIOS, my motherboard is the intel 965m which uses the ICH8-M southbridge. Does...

I'm having exact same issues with my RAID on nForce 790i SLI. Trying to install Windows 7 RTM and it's asking for RAID driver. The problem is nVidia packs all its nForce mobo drivers into a single EXE package and if I try to download and run the Win7x64 driver, the installer complains that I'm...

They're available in the UK at overclockers http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...1&catid=14&subcat=1427 though only the 160GB models I've just bought one (160GB), will be installing Windows 7 RTM and doing some benchmarks over the weekend :-)

New Intel SSD drives are in!!!

Does anyone know when we can expect the 320GB models? And when will the TRIM command firmware be available? Will we have to wait until Windows 7 official release in October for this, as some people (inc. myself) intend to get it on Aug 6th when it becomes available to MSDN subscribers.

Thinking of Upgrading CPU on a Laptop. This possible?

I have an Asus VX2S laptop (the Lamborghini one). It currently has an intel T7500 (Merom) 2.2GHz CPU, and I was thinking of upgrading it to a T7800 2.6GHz CPU, and was wondering if this is possible with laptops? I have observed the following: * I am able to to gain physical access to the CPU...

Overclocking E8400, confused about BIOS setting on 790i mobo

I'm trying to overclock my intel Core 2 E8400 3GHz CPU. So far I have it at 3.8GHz with a slight increase in voltage to the core (1.4v up from 1.3v), on air cooling. I want to hit 4.0GHz but I'm confused about a setting in the BIOS. It's an nForce 790i motherboard and under voltage settings...

I'm having intermittent problems with my laptop, random lockups, not shutting down, not opening programs etc. I've not had a BSOD though. I had this before so I reinstalled Vista and the problems went away. Now they're back. I managed to do a detailed drive scan before and it detected bad...

790i - ASUS Striker II Extreme vs other boards

I'm looking to get a 790i nVidia motherboard. I'm still deciding between the different manufacturers, the EVGA seems to be the cheapest, but the ASUS version seems to be more expensive than the others by a fairly significant amount. What does the Asus have that makes it soo expensive? Is it...

    790i...when?

I heard from one review (need to dig it out) that the 790i is more energy efficient than the 780i (less heat, cooling, noise etc.) which is one of the main things that attracted me to it. Also I heard it could use 1600MHz FSB for up and coming CPUs, any truth in that? Kinda sucks it's DDR3 only...

    790i...when?

9800 PRO HDCP? Blue Ray 1080P compatible?

As far as I'm aware Windows XP doesn't support HDCP, you'll need Vista for that. This is what led some people to erroneously think they would need a new monitor that supports HDCP to run Vista.

8800 GT overkill for 19" CRT?

Crysis stresses any card at just about any resolution, so yes I'd say go for a 8800GT, especially as it offers the most performance per dollar of any card on the market today. As for DX10, yes it looks a little nicer, but you're not going to miss out in a big way. I think Crysis' DX10 mode...

Can a GeForce 8800 GT be plugged into a regular TV?

I should also add that if you TV doesn't have s-video in you can use an s-video to scart cable or adaptor, but make sure the scart socket on your TV can accept s-video signals or you'll get a black and white picture. I think some/most/all TV outputs on graphics card can send a composite signal...

Can a GeForce 8800 GT be plugged into a regular TV?

It should have an S-Video output (or some form of universal output that can send s-video signals), it's the round one anyway. Either use the cables that come in the box or buy an s-video lead and plug into s-video connector on your TV and you're good to go.

Yep, tried taking everything apart and putting back together. I've tried it with just mobo, CPU and RAM connected, nothing more, then hooked up PSU with that config (both main power connector and smaller 4 pin one). Still doesn't power up, although the green LED still shows. I don't have a...

PC won't switch on. PSU or Motherboard?

My PC won't switch on any more. I've opened up the case and noticed the green LED on my motherboard is light up with the PSU connected, this I'd imagine rules out a faulty power cable/fuse in plug etc. I've also tried shorting the two power-on pins on the motherboard directly, which I think...
