I'm having problems installing the heatsink on 2 diff mobos

Well, I'm working on a new build right now, and I figured some non-stock cooling might be nice to have. So, I purchased the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro on the internet. It's supposed to fit LGA775, and I'm running an LGA775 processor. When I went to install it, I found that the black and white...

    Dual booting

Alright, this sounds good. I'm going with Ubuntu. I'm also getting a new drive, because I'd like the extra space, apart from this whole deal. So then, I'm off to do this. Maybe in a few weeks... Wish me luck!

    A lightbulb is painted black..

Theoretically, if you have a perfectly inescapable source, with a perfect mirror and a perfect vacuum and a perfectly indestructible filament.... it would continue to get hotter and hotter. And hotter. At least, I think. Realistically, with the same conditions.... you turn off the lights to...

Best anti-virus software for Win XP SP2?

I use Avast and think it's fine, but I guess other people don't quite agree. I might switch soon. Then again, I'm not incredibly knowledgeable in terms of Antiviruses. Last time I checked though, Consumer Reports liked BitDefender the most, so I might put some thought into that.

    Dell branded vs Store Branded

I'd go for the custom one. Why? Because I always support "the underdog." Even if I did fully trust Dell, which I don't, I'd prefer they not get my money. If they continue to be the biggest player in the game, they'll get cocky, and start lowering standards. That is not something I want...

    Dual booting

Okay, so just to make sure I have this perfect, let me run down what I plan on doing. 1. Buy a new hard drive, hook it up, etc. 2. Install Windows XP 3. Install Ubuntu Linux (Other way around?) 4. Copy all of my old Windows stuff over Is this right?

    Dual booting

xtknight, I'm assuming you're saying I get a new hard drive, then install windows/linux. Regarding Gentoo, I didn't choose it for any reason, I just vaguely remember about a year ago thinking I'd rather get Gentoo rather than others. Honestly though, I don't really know. I've never tried...

    Dual booting

Okay, here's the lowdown. For a long time, I've been thinking about making a dual-boot system. Windows XP and Gentoo Linux, specifically. I want to know how to do this. I guess to make this easier, I'll list some things. What I can't do- Use Partition Magic Have a CD/DVD that must be in...

IS it better to upgrade video or hard drive??

I'm surprised you're bringing your wife into the 20th century! All of us here are in the 21st! All (corny) jokes aside, you should upgrade the hard drive first. Since your wife is only playing old games, a high-end video card is not necessary. I'd recommend getting a nice hard drive, and...

    Internet isn't connecting...

Well, I got on my computer today, and nothing has loaded that uses the internet. AIM, Opera, Ad-Aware updates, none of it has worked. First of all, I checked to make sure that the cable that ran from my computer to the router was secure, and it was. Nothing worked, still. I then suspected that...

    Blue Screens of Death

Well, I updated the drivers, and it's still happening, although it has been cut down by a little bit once again. Is there anything I can do about the processor/mobo/memory issues?

    Blue Screens of Death

I'll answer these in order... I have somewhat of a temp monitoring program, but it's quite unreliable. They're all normal. When I randomly check my temps in the BIOS, they're also normal. Do you happen to know of any free programs I can use to check? PSU - Turbolink Switching Power...

    Blue Screens of Death

Well, sorry for being late. I searched for it, couldn't find it, used the search feature in Regedit, still couldn't find it. Should I just get some better cooling? My friend still insists that's what's causing the problem.

    Blue Screens of Death

Well, I finally got around to running Memtest. I ran it all night, it got about 4000% coverage on each of them (I had to run two programs of it), 0 errors. Are there any other possible problems?

    Blue Screens of Death

So, I've been enjoying the new computer I recently built. Unfortunately, it has some major problems. Like a lot of blue screens of death. Here's the lowdown - What usually happens is that I'll be running 3 or so programs (Pretty much always AIM, iTunes, and Opera with 2-3 tabs), and then they...
