Pixma MX860, do you like yours?

Thanks for the info Modelworks, I figured as much. I guess that's why OEMs have resorted to chipping to protect their little scheme. It can't possibly be for better ink management if these particular models use up ink so fast, right? If I am not breaking any regulations or rules by using 3rd...

Pixma MX860, do you like yours?

Yeah, I was actually looking at the pricing for the CLI-221 pack and the PGI-220 3 pack.

Pixma MX860, do you like yours?

Thanks for the info. I am guessing you haven't had any issues with these. Do they last as long as OEM ink? I guess I shouldn't really complain given how much cheaper they are. I have never used 3rd party ink before and this is a relatively new printer but the OEM ink goes for around 70 bucks...

Pixma MX860, do you like yours?

Has anyone tried the 'compatible' 3rd party cartridges for the mx860? I see the color combo pack for much cheaper and I wonder if these chipped cartridges work just like the manufacturer's.

    Where are the 120Hz monitors?!!!

This is my understanding as well. An LCD TV will all frame interpolation turned off goes back down to 60hz.

    Beyond Radeon 3870

I used to have a 3870 but I game on 1920x1200 so I went with a 4870 1 GB. I think the logical progression for you would be a 4870 512 or higher, if you want Nvidia then something in the 200 series. I think a 4770 is a lateral move at best with more benefits on lower power draw and temps. It...

    Asus non-reference 4890

I don't have any experience with those other versions but I like my Vapour-X 4870 a lot. It is very quiet and reasonably cooler than the stock version. It works great for me since I do not have a machine with a whole lot of space and airflow.

    I'd wait for Sapphire's Vapour-X version.

    4890 Review Thread

Can underclocking do any kind of damage to the card if done improperly? I'm curious because I have a HD4870 1GB card in a small case and every little bit helps I guess.

Best 24'' monitor for competitive gaming and good image quality for movies and web

Is it just me or are these expensive panels such a rip-off? 500$ for 24 inches is soo 90s. As much as I dislike this 1080p trend, I hate paying too much for a screen. Didn't we learn enough from overpaying on video cards? Anyway, I bought a Dell 2409 and while I don't game competitively, I...

what is your view on this 4870 card? Update

Thumbs up to the OP for getting the Vapour-X. I'm not regretting this card so far and I've been abusing the hell out of it. My machine needs more airflow however as it is starting to get warmer here back east.

what is your view on this 4870 card? Update

This card is a great performer but really loud on load. I recommend the Vapor-X version instead.

ATI 4890 vs nV GTX 275 reviews

Agree to this, as I have had to do this several times for the HD4870. I had to connect the power cables first before I slide it into the PCIE slot since there is very little wiggle room to do it afterwards.

    SAPHIRE VAPOUR X SERIES

I just got one of these babies to replace the SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL. First thing I notice is it is more streamlined, damn thing even has a blue light so I guess it has a coolness factor if you're into that sort of thing. Performance-wise it is the same but the really beauty is with the fan noise...

    SAPHIRE VAPOUR X SERIES

Is the noise and heat levels really much better than the stock Sapphire? I have the 4870 1 GB and while I love the performance, I really am annoyed by the noise. I see that Newegg has a limited non-refundable return policy on these. That's rather limiting. I wonder why?

    3870 upgrade

I have a thread here just an FYI, you may be able to learn from my experience. I was basically happy with the fps I was getting (60-65 @ 1920x1200 on Furmark) but there were issues with the fan noise and excessive heat so I had to return it. Some things to consider if you have a smallish case...

    Upgrading from an HD3870

Actually, I did try your suggestion before I packed it up. I also used GPU-Z to log the fan speed and loads while running the Furmark stress test. Everything was just shooting up, temps and fan speed to full. The temps weren't dropping either, and this is with the case open. I see your...

    Upgrading from an HD3870

Yep, I figured it's just a bad card but I am not going to risk a replacement so I went for the refund. These cards are bigger than I thought they would be. Those temps were crazy, and I had the case open too. Oh well, back to waiting for 40nm.

    Upgrading from an HD3870

Hate to bump an old thread but I bit the bullet last week and ordered the stock Sapphire 4870 1 GB card from Newegg. Got it in a couple of days and I just installed it today and to my dismay, the card runs too hot on load! Running Furmark temps top off at 109 C with the fan predictably full...

Is it true that adding more RAM will slow down your boot up time drastically?

    Upgrading from an HD3870

You got a point there so I will probably hold off as well. I'm hoping the added 2 GB of RAM will be good for now. I have learned to value stability after years of going over so many hardware changes. Maybe I am getting old. :(

    Upgrading from an HD3870

Thanks for the input guys, I think I can go ahead with my plan then. I just added another 2 GB of RAM and after an initial burp when the CPU fan started rattling to a fail, I stopped and reconnected everything and now it is running normally. Do you think having done this and upgrading a 1 GB...

    Upgrading from an HD3870

My goal really is to upgrade to at least an HD4870 1 GB but not sure how realistic it may be. I have a HP M8100y PC and I managed to upgrade the GPU to HD3870 by also replacing the stock PSU with a Corsair HX520. Anyone think this is possible? My concerns are power, and depending on the size...

    40" Samsung or 24" monitor

Well for money there are ways to recoup cost but I agree, why get rid of a perfectly good TV if it is most probably some other limitation. Are you connecting to the TV using DVI/HDMI or VGA? Some TVs limit VGA to lower res.

    40" Samsung or 24" monitor

Well I'm not expert but aren't most HDTVs limited to 1080p (1920x1080) resolution? I don't think this TV is any different. If you want to go higher then you have to go with a dedicated LCD panel. As for games running on 1080p, some may not have the option in-game but you can probably set it...

    HP M9300t

I bought this 2 weeks ago (couldn't resist, Q9450 + same specs - Bluray = 642$) and I'm planning to swap the PSU and video card (HX520 and HD3870) from my older HP M8 series machine. Their interior are relatively the same size so I think I can make it happen. The newer vid cards are probably...

Does my 720p HDTV really do 1080p?

Wow, is this for real? I have always wondered why TV manufacturers cap VGA at some crap resolutions and not letting it go up to 1080p but for it go even higher... that's wonderful! What TV do you have? I'm assuming at least a 50 inch screen, right? Is it d-sub or DVI? EDIT: Nevermind...

You will have to get the bigger sets to fully appreciate 1080p, or at the very least notice it.

    DVI resolution

As I expected, that manual wasn't so helpful in this case. Had to rely on the AVSforums for an answer to this. Short answer is, your entire setup is working just fine and it is actually a 1080p resolution that you are seeing on the TV, although it was upconverted by the TV's built in chip...

    HDMI sound from ati 3870?

Yep. The only advantage being it is all in one cable. As far as I know, there is no lossless audio output yet for the PC. While the HDMI cable is convenient, I do notice audio stutter once in a while. Often enough for it to be annoying. Not sure if it is a problem with the card or the...

    DVI resolution

Actually, I am not entirely sure about that model. Cnet says it is a 1080i set but it is being advertised by Toshiba and some resellers as 1080p. I will have to take your observations and a user opinion on Cnet as confirmation that this is indeed a 1080i only TV. I wish could find the user...

    DVI resolution

Yeah, it should show as 1920 by 1080 pixels with 32 bit color at 60Hz on Display properties. On my HTPC, although it only shows as a Plug and Play monitor in Display properties, Catalyst Control Center sees the tv as TSB-TV. I can also force it to show 1080i (1920 by 1080 30Hz) as an option...

Yes, DVI can go even higher than 1080p on larger LCD monitors. What does your TV say when you display the output from your PC? If you have a Regza, just press the Menu button on the remote then Exit.
