You know how after you reboot your pc, all the clutter and unreleased memory bits from running a pc for couple days on end gets all reset and cleared?
Just wondering if theres a app that does something similar but without restarting.
Say you've used your pc for 1 week without rebooting...
Is this because the x64 version pretty much as to also install 99% of the x86 code to insure 32bit app compatibility? I dont actually know the answer, geniunely curious.
I'd love it if they (MS) would release an optional pure 64bit version that did have to facilitate(sp) 32bit support. Its...
Basically im a control freak and hate having programs running automatically.
I just want a program that I can startup manually whenever I want and do manual scans. I dont want monitoring and learning crap. When i want it off, i want it off.
I used to use Ewido but that got bought or...

This talk of Rails but more specifically how to add them (the Amps) up is slightly confusing. I'm currently running a 8800gtx and havent had any problems so far. Unfortunately I bought it just before 8pin PCI-e Psu came out. Its 620w with x2 6pins PCI-e and its ok.... for now.
However could...
Hey guys..
The Antec EA 380w is around $100 bucks over here.
This is another option. 2nd hand for $85. Anyone have experience with Silverston PSUs?
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Brows...ting.aspx?id=201952713
Looks like the Antec AW 380 could be the winner.
However do think its enough for my system or would i need to go slightly overbudget on the 430W?

Ok my older backup PCs PSU died (sorta) and l'm looking at new PSU that. Now I'm looking at replacing my old Antec True 550.
Things to note
- this is my backup PC and i dont plan on keeping it more than 1-1.5 years
- Need x2 sata connectors
- Dont need PCI-e power since its an AGP...
Thanks guys.
Yeah I've contacted Overclockers.co.nz ... unfortunately got an reply saying they were closed until next week for Chinese new year.
Guess I'll find out next week.
Not sure extactly how restrictive the grill is but it does have a thin filter rather than the thicker ones in...
I found an even better one but its seems its impossible to find anywhere but in South Africa.
I'm in New Zealand so I'm really screwed. Wish in knew someone in SA.
I plan to remove x3 of my front 5.25" bays and install a 120mm intake fan via an adapter/bracket.
Does anyone know which companies make these?
I'm talking about things similar to these...

Cheers. Is there a disadvantage with PWM vs Voltage Adjustment Fans?
Anyone know of any recommendations of a 4pin 120mm x120mm x 25mm PWM fan for the TRUE cooler?
(non-overclocked Q9540)
Cheers.
Using a Thermalright Ultra Extreme with a 120mm fan thats 3pin. Just wondering if a 3 or 4pin fan makes a difference to the mobo and how it controls the fan?
Would the mobo control the speed of a 3pin fan?
Also, does speed control not matter with 120mm cpu fans since they are quieter...
I was reading on benchmarkreviews.com that nickel is quite a bit worse than aluminium & copper at conducting/dissipating heat.
So can some explain why most HSF manfacturers that use Copper Heat pipes end up Nickel Plating the base of the HSF? They also mention it as a "feature", making it...
Went to one of my local PC shops today.
He recommended a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme...

Anyone have experience with this?
The con to me is the heavey weight ...but the pro is at least it has a retention bracket/backing plate...
I think you hit the nail on the head there after reading some reviews on my case. Yeah its "inverted ATX" which apparently means most lower fans are intake and higher fans are exhaust. Thank you for your help.
Just an FYI, I forgot to mention two things...
...the current rear "intake" fan has a metal ramp/vent/shoot/attachment that directs the flow directly to the top of the CPU HSF. I'm guessing this would improve the cooling? However I'm also looking at aftermarket Cpu HSF so it might not fit in...
The PC came pre-assembled when I order one custom build from my local PC shop. Is the airflow setup efficient for this type of rig?
Somehow I dont think its good to have just air going into a case? Shouldnt there be an exhaust?
I'm thinking about flipping the rear fan to exhaust air out. I...
OCZ Vendetta 2 maybe?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/p..._vendetta_2_cpu_cooler
That OCZ rebrand of xigmatek seems to have higher airflow but somehow achieves this using the same fan speed/size, only louder? Time to google some reviews.
Thanks for the link btw, its easier to get hold of OCZ...
Actually I'm thinking maybe these coolers could be overkill for my purposes. Would a 90mm setup be enough instead of going up to 120mm?
Once again, any feedback is much appreciated.
oooo.... niiiicceee. We may have a winner.... for now. Unfortunately I live in New Zealand so I'll have to see if anyone sells it (the brackets) down under.
Also, I've been reading that some coolers come with average fans and getting a seperate fan can make a decent improvement in cooling...
Basically its my first summer with my new mobo/cpu combo and I'm not liking the temp readings. (i think I have too much paste on anyways)
Info/requirements:
* Intel Quadcore Q9450
* NOT overclocked and never will be
* Not after the ultimate cooler, just something that is better...
Cheers guys.
I wasnt really worried about the power usage. It was moreso about getting longevity out of it. Its my backup monitor and I only brought this up because an identical one died recently and just got me thinking, thats all.
Cheers again.
Heres my routine...
I never turn my CRT monitor off using the its "front power button", I just let it go to "standby/powersave" mode whenever I shut off my pc. (usually every night)
My question is, is it better to actually turn it off using the power switch or just let it stay in standby...
Just curious. Regarding my 2nd (older) PC which i havent sold for no logical reason.
I thought its video was about to die but everything turned out ok. However it got me thinking....
The card is an Ati 800XT PE which uses x1-4pin Molex on AGP. I was wondering if there are faster AGP cards...
Crap, youre right! The only thing against it is that its slightly heavier.

To play Crysis at the native resolution of 2560x1200 smoothly would be quite difficult.
Since no budget is mentioned, I would go with Gtx280 in SLI or wait a month for the Radeon 4870x2.
At those resolutions, video ram is your friend.
No I havent tried to adjust the speed in the bios nor have I check the temp under load.
Its just that its louder than I'd prefer it to be during idle. i.e. sitting in windows doing nothing.
Whats a decent free program to check CPU temp under load? I'm guessing if its running below a...
I upgraded from a E6600 to a Q9450 Cpu recently and was suprised to notice that the fan was louder. It sounded like as if it had crappier ball bearing than my older E6600 Cpu cooler. (thats if cpu coolers even have ball bearings)
Ok... so, whats a good 3rd party cooler that meets the...
Nah, I did it through Disk Cleanup. It was the "hibernation file cleaner" option. Although it probably deletes that file you mentioned anyways. Probably the same end result.
It was the "system restore and shadow copies" option under Disk Cleanup. This is something I will re-enable but I...

Ok I've just moved to Vista Home Premium 64bit. I've installed the o/s, hardware drivers, windows update(critical updates only). Installed Acronis True Image 11. Then I made an disk image. C drive apparently has 28gb of data, the image file is compressed...
