    I lost my BF1942 discs :-(

I bought it and hated it. Couldn't figure out how to play it properly. I'll swap you the complete collection set for a different older game. I'm looking to play some older titles.

looking for cool base building strat game

Ceasar series? I think Ceasar IV is the latest. Haven't played the latest, but the originals were a lot of fun. More city building than pure base building. Kind of Age of Empires meets Sim City.

Are you playing any old games?

Do those old shooters have updated mods, or did they not build the capability into those games back then? It'd be really fun to play new missions and maps (not multiplayer). I play civ 4, and some of the stuff people have done is amazing.

Vista Media Center Full Screen Stuttering Solution

So, like apparently many others on the web, had a problem with Vista Media Center. Videos would play fine when the menus were on the screen, but as soon as the menus disappeared or you went full screen, the whole video would stutter and flicker horribly. If you have a Nvidia card, do some...

Jerky Live TV from Tuner Card

Resolved: It was a mix between bad reception (like some of you said) and a conflict with an audio device that caused stuttering during full screen mode. I'm going to have to think about getting a new antenna, because I only get two broadcast networks, no matter which direction i face it...

    Netflix streaming question

The low cost plans still have limitations on the amount of hours, I think. But I think 2 dvd's and above is unlimited streaming. Check the website. For windows, you need to use Internet Explorer and download the Netflix player, and I think there's a Mac client now out as well. No Linux streaming...

Jerky Live TV from Tuner Card

But should a brand-new installation of Vista have a bunch of stuff using the hard drive so much it becomes impossible to watch live TV? That seems like it would make most tv cards useless, and I haven't really seen that problem online. I don't know what to do about reception. I can switch to...

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

Haha, this is getting complicated :) I'll figure it out though. Btw, anyone else waiting for the windows version of Boxee?

Jerky Live TV from Tuner Card

I'll stop background tasks and check it out. My HDD is a WD 7200 640GB drive. Does live tv even use the hard drive? I thought it just came through the tuner card, and your HDD was only put into use when recording tv. I don't know what to do about tuner reception. Both Vista Media center and...

Jerky Live TV from Tuner Card

So I just built my brand new system. Core2 Duo E7300 running Vista 32-bit, 4GB Ram, Radeon HD 4670, and a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 dual TV tuner. I'm trying to watch live TV through Vista Media Center. I configured the card, and I recieve digital channels from my antenna, but the video in...

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

Hmmm. I did the registry hack, but nothing showed up. I ended up with a video folder and an audio folder after ripping. I need to now put both those in another folder, and then keep all ripped dvd's in another folder, and then add that one inside media center? I'll try that when I get home...

hardware suggestions for 'quiet but powerful' HTPC?

I just built my HTPC (literally, like two days ago) with help from people here on the forums, and everything worked out great. Check out the threads under my profile. Its a very quiet system, only one case fan, the PSU fan, and my video card vents out the back, which makes it all around very...

    My first build worked!

Are you serious? I was going to close the case and stick it in a corner. Its my HTPC, its supposed to be out of the way. What do I still need to worry about?

So I was sent a message, replied, and was sent another. The second message I received referenced the first, but when I try to go back and read it, I only get the second message and my reply. My message history shows two messages. Both links bring up the same thing. But I know its there, I can...

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

One of the biggest things right now is for Windows Media Center to be able to play the file. I tried VOB last night, but I couldn't get it to show up. I'm going to work on it some more this weekend, maybe try an ISO format.

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

Thanks everyone. I'm going to research VOB and ISO to see if there are any problems. On the one hand I just want a decent file to come out the other end with the DVD menu intact, but I also want my media center software (whatever i decide to use) to know what it is, find the cover art and...

    My first build worked!

Yeah, the start button is scary. I still had the case open so i could look inside, and I was like: "Is everything spinning? Do I smell any smoke?" Haha, seems kind of silly now.

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

I looked at that site, but I can't seem to find the answer. Its full of "how to convert X into Y" but doesn't tell me what I should pick for Y. Do .avi, x246 or .mkv files have menus? Is a VOB file just the file off the DVD without compression? Sorry, this is frustrating. There are so many...

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

Will they all show up at the same time in Media Center, or will I need to virtually mount an ISO to watch it?

DVD Ripping - What format to use?

So I've just built myself a HTPC running Vista. Its currently hooked up to my monitor but it will eventually be hooked up to my HDTV (720p). I want to take my dvd's off the shelf and put them on my computer. I've found lots of info about decrypting and what programs to use to rip the DVD, but...

    Ask me your MCE questions.

I have a brand-spanking new Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 with dual digital tuners. I'm looking to watch free over-the-air digital TV (I'm in NYC). I hooked it up to WMC in Vista, but I get crappy reception. WMC claims I'm getting the digital channels, but on my monitor they're full of noise, exactly...

    My first build worked!

Haha, yeah, I realized all those things from the front of the case were pretty simple and were not going to blow anything up. :) Turns out I needed to read the case manual instead of the motherboard manual to find out which sides were positive and negative.

    My first build worked!

I went online, researched, asked on the forums a bit for some help, bought all the parts, and built my first computer! I took a deep breath, turned it on, and everything worked like a charm! Thanks to everyone who gave help, it was much appreciated. I have to say, I've switched out a part or...

Ok, I can't stop asking questions. Thanks to everyone who has posted, its been a great help. I can't wait to try some of the suggestions. For another question, I'm going back to my childhood (by that I mean games on floppy disks and even floppier disks). Back then I played an awesome World...

I've never played a Star Wars game. Are those fun? You mentioned Knights of the Old Republic 2, I might check that out. Same with Diablo 2. Which Warcraft should I try? I'm definitely going to pick up Grand Theft Auto when I find it used on the cheap, along with the original Far Cry. I'm also...

I'm open to all sorts of games. I have played a few older ones that I managed to run on my laptop (its got a discreet card) like Halo, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty 1 & 2. I also play Civ4 a lot. I once played Warcraft (don't know what version) and the first Starcraft (long ago). I also got...

Turning one monitor off without disconnecting it?

I'm planning on having a monitor for my new PC running Vista, but I also want to hook it up to my TV to use media center (I have TV tuners) and occasionally play FPS games on it. I want to keep both hooked up at the same time because I want to keep the PC behind a desk where its hard to get to...

Halo - Combat Evolved (Halo 1) This is the first game in the Halo series. Originally released for XBox but ported to the PC. Also a first person shooter. It was a great game, ran ok on my old laptop, so a budget rig with a video card should run it alright. Awesome storyline and a great game...

Do you need to have played Baldur's Gate 1 to play 2? And what's Bethesda? Turn-based isometric? I'm like a kid in a candy store discovering all these games for cheap, but I have this funny feeling other people know way much more about games than I do. :) I just discovered Good Old Games...

PC Games - The Missing Years - A Continuing Thread

I'm going to put my own recommendations in: Call of Duty 1 & 2 First person shooters set in World War II. Both games can be played on a budget system today. There are expansion packs available as well. Call of Duty 1, Call of Duty 1 - United Offensive Expansion Pack and Call of Duty 2 can...
