    The "K" in Intel CPU's

"K" is potassium in the Periodic Table. Intel has fortified these processors with extra potassium and due to this they are able to overlock. /no, not really, but it sounds fun...

    Primarily Gaming Purposes - 4790K or 5820K ?

I just recently had this debate myself. Overall, I found that today, you will see better gaming performance from the 4790k so I built that system with 32 GB ram and 2 980s in SLI so I could do 4k gaming. Overall, I have been very happy with easy overclocking to 4.8 GHz without having to push...

Is this combo of $830 i7-4770k & asus z87 worth?

And is h100i a good cooler ? I would personally go for a big air cooler like the Noctua NH-D14. Maybe it is old fashioned but I believe it to have quieter fans and should be more reliable over the long haul though it might be harder to move around if you plan on moving a lot.

What is your oldest working cpu

What's sad is that the TSR-80 had a boot time that blows the doors off of the best systems today, it was pretty much instant. Also my ATARI ST had awesome boot-up times with TOS loading from ROM. All of these years later, we are waiting 30+ seconds before the system has started and becomes...

Intel G2 available but is NewEgg gouging?

I understand that NewEgg wants to make a profit but I don't like the "Auction" style markup. I would expect this from ebay but not a normal retailer. Normally, I would expect them to set a price with a reasonable profit and then when they go out of stock, people will have to wait. They must...

Why is there still a price premium for socket 939 dual cores?

ya, I was also thinking of throwing a cheap dual-core into my single-core 939, but it looks like a lot of other people had the same idea too...It looks like AMD could have made a lot more money just by keeping the 939 socket running a bit longer. At any rate, you can get a cheap intel board...

is my RAID killing my system throughput

I'm no raid expert, but you have 8 drives and are only getting about 1.5 TB of storage. Also, you have a strange mix of sizes and are using the min. number of drives to get raid 5 at all off of two controllers. If it were me, I would get 2 more 750's drives and raid the 4 of them into a...

so is 8800GTS available already? Confused..

I really hate the confusing 8800GTS situation, they might as well rename it to 8800WTF Out of an infinite number of names/numbers that they can use, they choose to use the same one for each new model....

XP 64-Bit vs 32-Bit --- Any benefits with overclocking?

If you have > 3 GB ram, you should install 64-bit due to 32-bit memory address limitations. I'm have several issues with software compatibility with antivirus and work VPN software so I might have to run xp 32-bit in a virtual machine just to connect to my office. Overall, it has worked fairly...

    E6750 vs Q6600 vs Penryn

I have the retail boxed version of Vista Ultimate (I actually use some of the Ultimate features) and I have re-installed several times on new hardware with no problem. I talk to the nice girl in India an tell her that I got a new motherboard or processor and she re-activates me. You only run...

    G92 taped out boys

if the cost of a wafer is the same, and let's just say you double the number of chips produced on it because the die is smaller, you have just cut your material cost in half. Also, if you have a wafer and you produce 4 chips on it, if one is bad due to a flaw, you have a 25% failure rate. On...

    G92 taped out boys

Actually, the cost of making the GPU IS increasing. Here is a quote from http://techreport.com/articles.x/11211, "Nvidia estimates the G80 to be a mind-boggling 681 million transistors" If you read that article, you will see that these new chips are HUGE. When they move from 90 to 60 or...

    What are G0s?

Hi, I'm not in the IC business, but, I believe that the G0 stepping is a structural change to the processor design that requires a physical change the process mask. Several minor design bugs have been corrected and the new design draws less power (105 to 95) W. You will see SLACR on the a...

    CPU Question?

If by "field" you mean his name is Vinny and he likes to carry a baseball bat and lives where processors just happen to fall off of trucks, then ya, that's about right...As to your question, you have to just be bragging, I mean, come on....

4 core or not 8GB? Any Guesses?

Hi, With my less than unlimited budget, I have to decide between a dual core and 8GB ram or a Quad and 4 GB ram. Of course, if I need more ram later, I can add it, but I can't exactly add more cores onto a CPU. Now, while I don't have any application that can use 8GB ram, I'm worried that...

    parts list e6600 box

700 watt psu for that system appears to be overkill and pretty expensive...I think even a solid 350 or 400 would be fine, here's a nice little seasonic for about $70: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151021 Maybe I'm just crazy but unless you are running one of the...

probably gonna get XP x64 soon

You can check the HCL here: http://www.microsoft.com/hcl and look under windows 64 It may be something that you just have to do and see what happens, but I would suggest making a drive image so you can go back if you need to :)

probably gonna get XP x64 soon

Unless you are running 4GB of ram or need to run a 64-bit application, I would stick with windows32 until vista comes out. You might try it on another drive first and see if everything works for you, otherwise you can search for each piece of hardware you have and see if there is a driver for it.

    So...my harddrives suddenly stop working....

I doubt that both hard disks would fail at the same time, you are using another cable when testing on the other computer? If the heads are stuck, you can try cooling the drive in the freezor, if you are lucky, they will work long enough to get your data off.
