Yes, I went to look at the Neo-Eco per your post. However, it doesn't seem that there's alot of distributor out there anymore. I am currently looking at the Antect EA-380D.
I would still prefer semi-modular but the only ones within my budget range are the Corsair CS450M, CX430M. There are...
I have been contemplating the following for the last 2 weeks.
Corsair (CS450M, VS450, CS430, CS430M)
EVGA430
Antec (EA-450, EA-430, VP450P)
But the one you suggested (Antec EA-380D) is the one I'm seriously looking at now. One thing I don't understand though. There is no top or bottom fan on...
Thanks for the suggestions. I guess you prefer Antec over Corsair and EVGA? I was looking for a semi-modular one because I'm building with a Micro-ATX case and this is my first build. However, the Antec 380 model you linked me to appears to have non-sleeved cables so I might be able to have a...
OK...and you are correct...it is harder to find a PSU in the 300W range. Most I see are in the 430W to 500W range where the price to quality ratio is best for a budget build. The 300W range PSU's that I've seen are quite expensive.
Interesting...you believe a 250W would be plenty? You may be right but I think I'll sleep better if I went a bit higher. I was looking at the EVGA 430 or Corsair CX430M.
Hi Folks,
Writing all of you from Canada. Christmas has passed and not a flake of snow...amazing!
I'm putting together a budget build to replace my 8 year old system. Was going to do it about a year ago but never had the opportunity. Now I have the time and I've already started. These are...
Well, I'm definitely not a troll. Just someone wanting opinions and recommendations. I apologize to CoolPurpleFan if I hurt his feelings because I didn't go exactly with his build. It doesn't mean that I didn't value his opinion as I do remember thanking him and everyone else for their posts...
OK...I was just concerned that a higher rated ram speed than what the mobo is spec'd at might have caused some compatibility issues. I'll go with the recommended part in this case. Never heard of G-Skill before but the Rip Jaw series gets excellent reviews.
Question about the mobo and memory. The mobo supports up to 1600 ram. But the ram recommendation in the build is 1833. Does it matter? Or should I just choose a 1600 ram instead? Or I'm wondering if you just picked the 1833 ram because of price?
Man...so many posts I've lost track. Thanks. I may upgrade video card from 270X to 280 if price is right. You don't recommend a GEForce card though? I thought NVidea cards were more suited for intel chips?
The lowest price I5 refresh chip would be the 4460. I think that would suit my needs.
Can people here tell that I wouldn't be making a mistake by going with this chip? If no other alternate opinions, I will start building around this CPU.
Wow...that is still getting up their in price for an I3. But I've made up my mind on at least one thing and I'm not turning back now. And that is I want an I5. I'm just not sure if I should go with the Haswell or the Haswell refresh.
That is good to hear. I was avoiding the 4460 with an H81 board because of this but since this won't be an issue I will look into this combo again. Prior, I was looking at the 4430 and 4440 with an H81 board.
These look like good numbers for the AMD compared to the Intel numbers. I wonder since I use my machine about 10hrs/week if the power consumption increase really has a big affect.
Yes, that is my thinking. And you are correct. Sometimes it just seems like a sweet deal for just a few dollars more. I will go back to a lower end CPU and upgrade the video card.
I'm starting to understand now. It means that if I get a board/CPU combo that doesn't even boot, then I'm dead in the water because I don't even have the means to upgrade the BIOS at this point...correct? In which case, I have to find a CPU that will boot and then be able to do the BIOS update...
I will investigate your combo as well as CoolPurpleFan's. I'll also have to think about Ken's build again as well as some others that have been posted. Damn, I thought I had it this time. One thing for sure, I'm not going to OC. So any K processor is out of the question. That's why I ruled...
In that case I would just upgrade the BIOSand everything would be OK...right? Or would there be issues after that? I thought the H87 boards were already compatible with the latest gen processors?
Thanks for your advice and suggestions. I went with the 4690 because it was good value for the money. My system will be used 80% for everyday activities and 20% for gaming. Plus it seemed like a CPU that would last me another 5 years and it got an extra 200 clock speed for an extra $15...
If I went this route, I'll be looking at another $80 in upgrades. With that in mind, I would need to see where else in my build I could save that money. But I do think that the 750Ti is capable of playing the newer games at up to medium settings. That's based on my own research though.
Are you saying that there are better I5 chips that are more compatible with the H87 chipset. I didn't want the Z87 or Z97 chipsets because I'm not overclocking nor do I plan on doing any tweaking to the BIOS settings. Wouldn't I just need to flash the BIOS if needed?
My current HD is 500gb...
OK folks...I have settled on at least the following after taking into consideration everyone's postings and comments. Again, my main purpose was to have a machine that would boot up faster, be able to play some of the newer games on low or medium settings, and won't really need another upgrade...
I like the look of the Antec case. Nice clean design. The Thermaltake is nice too but I prefer the Antec. I'm not stuck on 1333 anymore. That was when I was looking at the I3. Now with the I5, I'm looking at 1600 speed.
Thanks to everyone who posted their comments and suggestions. Just getting back onto my PC right now. Been crazy at work. I'll comment and respond back to your feedback.
Thanks to all again. I did make some concrete decisions finally.
1. I will avoid MSI boards. I had to return a couple of them in the past. My current ASUS board has not given me any issues. Therefore, I will try and stay with ASUS or GigaByte. I don't know too much about the ASRock...
I agree. Ken's build was a great build and the reason why I moved away from the AMD A10-7850 and towards the I3. After thinking I had my mind set on my build selection and reading subsequent comments and knowing that I would probably not touch my new system for at least another 5 years, I...
Correct...the Antec case I wanted had USB 3.0 ports in the front, but the MOBO I chose didn't have a USB 3.0 header. I think you swayed me toward the I5.
Thanks again to everone for their on-going comments and suggestions. I am seriously now considering the I5. Yes, I am on the fence even though I thought I had my mind made up with the AMD A10-7850 and then the Intel I3-4150. But this is kind of fun too. I kind of enjoy researching all of...
I found my receipt. My system is only 7 years old...got it in 2007. Paid just over $300 for the Q6600 and just over $450 for the video card. Everything was new. Current system including taxes is just under 2K. But I bought the system back then thinking that I would do alot more with it and...
Thanks again for everyone's input and suggestions. I guess all your comments got me to thinking again. Good thing is I'm not in a rush to get this done.
Thanks again. I will look at the ShopRBC configuration too. ShopRBC is also local for me so no shipping charges. They actually built 2 computers for me, including the one I'm replacing.
Now things seem somewhat pricey for an I3. I guess I'm making that comparison to what Dell or HP is...
Thanks for the feedback "CoolPurpleFan". Canada Computers is local for me so I can pick up the parts in the store and avoid the shipping charges. I'll have to look at your configurations closer, but they do seem to have superior parts as compared to mine, but with just a slight price increase...
Well folks, based on your feedback on this thread, I have come up with the following for my build. This will be my first build ever so it should be fun. Although, the Micro-ATX form factor might prove to be a bit of a challenge. I didn't know how to export my completed build from PCPartPicker...
Thanks for the link...those build are in the $900 range...something to look at but I think it's more than what I'm comfortable with now. Still thinking the I3 but only drawback is dual core vs quad core.
Thanks to all for the latest replies. I don't think i'll be going the update route. It's time to treat myself to something new. Plus this is the first build I'll ever be doing so I want to have some fun with that. Funny thing is with the amount of overtime I've been doing at work, I think...
