Irish bookmaker paying out NOW on Obama's victory.

It gives them (Paddy power) an enormous amount of publicity, so it seems like a brilliant move. Publicity that will pay itself many times over even if Mc Cain should win.

Dow 9500 ... Where we go from here...

If the second bottom is higher than the first one it might be over. If it's lower it's likely to continue down (after a second smaller bear rally). Btw, if "everybody" knows its likely to happen it will happen - not the other way around as you suggest. There where also gaps in the graph...

Dow 9500 ... Where we go from here...

I didn't really factor in anything since it's based on pure pattern recognition in the 10 year dow jones chart. But the increasing panic is a sign that the bottom is approaching. We have an expression here that the market does not turn around before the last optimist has become pessimist. Panic...

Dow 9500 ... Where we go from here...

7000+- I said so in a post a few months back - if 10500-10000 was broken, then it could very well go to 7000. There is a head-shoulder formation in the dow chart (if you know anything about technical analysis)

Non US Citizens: how would you vote?

Its affects us in many ways. We are also participating in the war in Afghanistan, we have Russian nuclear bombers flying along our cost and the american foreign policy will decide how this evolves. American economic policy is also deciding how our stock markets fare, and we have hundreds of...

Non US Citizens: how would you vote?

I don't claim to represent "European attitude", we are much more different then americans with many languages, countries and cultures. And we don't follow american politics quite as closely as you do. There is however no doubt that Obama is a much more "european" poitician than McCain is imho.

Non US Citizens: how would you vote?

I would vote Obama (as would probably at least 80% of Norwegians). Obama is so much more likeable and skilled in retoric than McCain would ever dream of beeing. Obamas vice president seems like a guy with the experience Obama lacks, and he also seems to have a good track record. McCain seems...

Why are European cars more expensive than American ones?

I have always wondered why cars where so cheap in America to.. Its probably mostly because of taxes, but also because the dollar is very weak now, making European cars more expensive because nobodt wants to put higher prices in dollars. Btw, in my country the most basic Jetta (1,6 102 hk) cost...

POLL: Oil down 18+% from its high. How far down is your gasoline from its high?

Here's one supplier of heat pump that is sold a lot here, but I guess it may not be suitable for your temperatures. It works down to about -15°C (5F) or a little lower http://heatpumps.scanhome.ie/ I don't have one myself, we use wood in addition to electrisity the winter.

POLL: Oil down 18+% from its high. How far down is your gasoline from its high?

Why don't you install a heat pump? They are very popular on my part of the planet (mostly the air to air type is used because its relativly cheap to install)

Oil & Gas thread:12-17-08 OPEC & non-members agree to largest reduction in history 7 percent

Thats not the whole story. The main reason the price of Diesel is higher than Petrol is that The Europeans (like me) are switching over to diesel in their cars. Diesel use in the EU has risen more than 15% the last 10 years or so, while petrol usage has actually dropped 22%. The U.S. can then...

    Dow plummeting towards 11,000

    Dow plummeting towards 11,000

High oil price is not automatically bad for the stock market since a large amount of the money paid for oil is put into the stock market (The Norwegian oil fund as an example, 60% goes into stocks, 40% into other papers) Its very possible that a bottom was set today btw.

    Dow plummeting towards 11,000

I would wait to see if it falls below 11 000 first. Its not so visible on your chart, but look at this one DJ 10 years There is a head-shoulder pattern beeing drawn now, and the first part of the broad neck line starts at 11 000. If 11 000 and then 10 500 is broken the potential is a fall...

A few comments about the nuclear fallout. My country, Norway, was one of the countries with a lot of fallout from Tsjernobyl. Some parts of Norway got relatively high doses. It seems they don't know, and are guessing. It's actually quite sad to see how bad these so called experts are at "predicting" anything. While I agree that China can become more efficient, the growth in consumption is most probably going to wastly outpace the increase in efficiency. We europeans tend to point to the U.S. when it comes to low efficiency in energy use, and theres certainly much to be done there. We can certainly...

If China starts to approach the levels of oil that 1.st world countries use, there will be very large problems to say the least. China currently use about 5 barrels/person/year of energy, while the U.S. uses almost 70. If china someday should use the same as the U.S. they alone would use 1.3...
