They are rare, but there are 9600 GSO cards with 8 memory chips and GPU that doesn't have some of it's processing units disabled on hardware level. So with bios mod you can enable all 128SP's and also make it 256-bit.

HD3850 X2 will have similar price as 9800 GTX and pretty similar pace. In those game tests without AA both cards wins 11 times. With AA on 9800 GTX wins 2 vs. 7..but differencies are small
