Looking to upgrade for Mass Effect 2. If anyone feels like helping...

These are my current specs. I built this computer years ago, before pci-e even, with the help of this forum. It ran the first Mass Effect just fine, but I think I'll need a dual core and better ram for its sequal. Motherboard: Abit AV8 (VIA K8T800P) CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 939 slot...

Thinking of splitting my single connection for two computers. Any downsides?

I really appreciate you two putting it into perspective for me. I knew that using both at the same time would effect my connection, but I didn't know if a splitter itself (or related) would hurt it somehow. I wanted to makesure there were no downsides to doing this, because It just seemed too...

Thinking of splitting my single connection for two computers. Any downsides?

Any downsides to that? My router in another room has multiple outputs, but I'm trying to avoid running another cable through the wall. I want to just split it at my end, but I'm wondering if it will hurt my connection any doing it that way.

Thinking of splitting my single connection for two computers. Any downsides?

I have a router in the other room. The cable I use, that runs through the wall, is connected to that router.

Thinking of splitting my single connection for two computers. Any downsides?

I've got a cat 6 ethernet cable running from a router in one room to my room. By hand, I've been switching the cable from my jack, to my HTPC and my ps3. I was looking at using splitters, but I'm not sure how they work or how they would effect my connection. And just to clarify, I don't want...

Trying to install SATA driver using USB floppy drive.

Thanks for posting. Well, I got this drive from a friend who I'm pretty sure bought and used it for the very same reason (installing sata driver). I'm going to try and get in touch with him just to make sure. Edit: Nice! thanks for that link. I'll definitely try that!

Trying to install SATA driver using USB floppy drive.

A while back I posted a question on how to go about installing windows XP after my floppy drive stopped working (I tried several different drives) One poster told me that all I needed was a usb floppy drive, so I put this on hold until I got a hold of one. Now that I have one, I'm trying to...

I can't get any floppy drives to work

Thank you very much for showing me my options. I'll do a little research on the first 2 today. Thanks for all the replies. Very helpful forum, and though this isn't the same account, you guys helped me build my first computer 4-5 years ago and I went from knowing absolutely nothing about...

I can't get any floppy drives to work

No yellow !. I did as you suggested by deleting the drivers and letting windows redetect. I installed my mobos chipset again also. What is strange to me is that no light comes on with my other two floppy drives, but when I use the latest cable I bought no light comes on my original floppy...

I can't get any floppy drives to work

On my first Floppy drive, when I power on the machine, the light stays on for about 3 secs and goes off just before windows begins to boot up. When I try to access the disk in the drive through "My Computer" the light stays on for a while then goes off after i cancel the "insert disk" message...

I can't get any floppy drives to work

Ah! great idea! USB-FDD would be floppy disk drive right? Before I go out and buy a usb floppy drive (what are those, about 20-25 dollars?) i'm thinking about having to install usb drivers before I can use my mouse each time I've reinstalled windows in the past. I can't quite remember if I...

I can't get any floppy drives to work

Yep, everything was enabled in bios and I restored the settings to default last time around (which is what it has been for the past 4-5 years) I made sure both cables were going in the right way (the twist at the floppy drive part) and both new cords are labeled anyway. Thanks for replies...

I can't get any floppy drives to work

Everything looks right in the bios, and I replaced the cable and the drive. When I insert different floppys into the drive and double click the drive in My Computer it tells me to insert disk. The only reason I need the floppy drive is for a SATA driver when I reinstall windows. Without it...

The power button just broke off my monitor

It just hit me to check Ebay for a broken one being sold cheaply. I'm going to go ahead and do that unless anyone knows if spare parts are sold somewhere, which I have to doubt. Thx.

The power button just broke off my monitor

It didn't just pop off, a piece of the button that holds it on broke. And it's just a button, I really hate for my monitor to go out like this... Any help/advice would be appreciated. It's a Samsung SyncMaster 710t, btw. If anyone else out there has one, I would advise you to be easy on...

"It is now safe to turn off your computer."

Woops! I wish I didn't glaze over that last part in your link. I just got finished trying everything given except for replacing my powersupply and ?ShutNTdown? Registry patch. I plan on trying both of those tommorow. If the ShutNTdown patch doesn't work, I'll probably just reinstall windows...

"It is now safe to turn off your computer."

^ I did that and it caused my computer to restart instead of shutting down. I thought that problem sounded familiar and in the link the other poster gave me stated that doing this causes this problem from some people. At least I think that was the link I read that in. I turned it back off and...

"It is now safe to turn off your computer."

I checked ACPI in the BIOS and I have the option of setting the ACPI suspend type to one of two things: S1 poweron-suspend and S3 suspend-to-ram. I have the latter, S3 suspend-to-ram, selected. As for programs, this is a fresh install. I just went through the same motions as I always go...

"It is now safe to turn off your computer."

After reformating my computer, it stopped turning off on its own after shutting down. Of all the times i've reinstalled windows this is the first time this has happened. Could anyone explain how I would go about changing this back to normal? Thanks in advance.

    Did my video card die?

Alright, looks like the PSU is fine after checking it. Also, I noticed that the GPU is getting power from it because I can see fans turning on the GPU and it lights up. Again, I can hear windows boot up and everything seems to be fine other than i cannot see it. Everything seems fine other...

    Did my video card die?

No I can't because the computer I'm on now is PCI-e only. And I can probably enter safe mode, but I can not see anything at all. It is completely black. But the monitor is getting something from my computer because when its unpluged it brightens up and switches back and forth between digital...

    Did my video card die?

First, the thing is the screen will go black, but everything seems to work fine only i can't see it. I can restart the comp, enter my password blindly, and then hear windows boot up and even a update pop up ive been meaning to turn off. After cleaning any of the dust out of my computer I set...
