AMD Closes In to Command Half of Discrete Graphics Processor Market

I'm pretty sure market share accounts for sale volume within an alloted amount of time, in this case the more recent round of gpus (late 2009-2010). That would mean all the old Nvidia 8800s and 9800s, which are great cards in their own right, can't be counted as they were part of a statistical...

    upgrade 8800GTS ? 250 or 240

5670, hands down, if you're only looking for HD playback. It only performs as an equal to the 8800GTS at games tho. IRCC the first 8800s (GTX and the 640/320 GTS's) didn't support hd decode acceleration which means your stuttering was due to the gpu not helping with the video and all the work...

Most baffling video card issue I've ever troubleshoot.

have you tried starting the computer in safe mode? I actually had the same thing happen to me just yesterday with my 4870X2. The comp would post, show that windows was loading, then the screen would go blank with no response. However, when starting the comp in safemode window does load and...

BF2: Bad Company 2 burned out my 280 GTX?

If you got the courage I'd try oven baking that 280. If not then go with the suggestions and find a 5850/470 at best price available

Good 5970 vs. 480 reviews? Who's the peoples' champ

It's not too hard to take the 480 VS 5870 numbers and compare them to 5870 vs 5970 numbers then extrapolate the result. Bottom line is 5970 is still the clear single card leader as of status quo. However it is still a 2-chip card and thus can't be compared against the 480 fairly. It's also not...

    best PCI-E None Powered Card?

are you serious? the 5670 heatsink is about as small as standard card HSF's come, and is certainly within his size constraints if he was running a X850. GT240-costs the same as 5670, but performs about 20% worse across the board. It does use less power, but not nearly enough of a difference...

    best PCI-E None Powered Card?

yeah I didn't catch the 250W part of the post, but if that is your envelope and you don't plan to upgrade to a faster psu, then the 5670 is your best option.

    best PCI-E None Powered Card?

HD 5670, fo shizzle... or if you find a 9800GT, they're about the same performance wise

3D Cloud Gaming (Hardware provided by the Data Center)

example: a 5670, a budget/midrange graphics processor, has a bandwidth of 64GB/s I know most of this is being used to do the computing rather than actually sending out a display signal, but even so, if you treat games like crysis as a sijmple HD movie running at 1080p, you'll need to be able...

3D Cloud Gaming (Hardware provided by the Data Center)

bandwidth issues would drive ISP costs through the roof if this was to match the kind of visuals we have with locally stored games. That and input lag would be horrendous. Of course I'm not ruling this technology out come ten years into the future, but the infrastructure to support it isn't...

Good replacement for a dying 8800 GTX?

read the entire post before you respond. OP has done the oven method once already. He's still going to try it but would like a backup and failsafe option. I'd say a 5770 would be a good buy

    5850 for a 4870x2

yeah always push for the upper limit. you should supply some benchmarks (like from AT, techpowerup, etc) of the 4870X2 outperforming the 5850 and possible the 5870. Performance parity is your friend here.
  14. D

New 5850 doesn't perform much faster than 3850, what gives?

yeah WoW isn't the best benchie game... what were your frames before and what are they now? If you're already getting playable (ie 40fps) rates with your 3850 then there isn't a whole lot of reason for you to be upgrading to 5850. That sort of horsepower is for bench intensive games like crysis...

5870 vs GTX260 to buy? or not to buy?

lulz I try not to flame but my n00bdar is going crazy. Look up some benchmarks dude, here, check this AT article out: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3643 Unless of course OP is making thread for irony's sake, in which case I call a miss on the humor...maybe I'm just too stoned.

Monster dual gtx 480 in the works.

IIRC the limit for power delivery via the PCI-E slot is 75 watts, and another 225W comes from the 6-pin/8-pin connectors directly to the power supply. if additional power is required for the card I don't see why they can't add more 6-pin/8-pin sockets, provided the board itself can handle the...

    Upgrading 7900GT

9800GT or HD4850 for guest gaming system?

the HD5670 performs almost identical to 9800GT (check AT review), supports DX11, is lower power and lower heat and comes at around the same price (or lower). Of course neither the 9800 or the 5670 is as fast as 4850 but it would help to know what games and resolutions you are considering with...

Is my 5870 running to hot?

I prefer manually dialing my fan up before gaming, usually to 50-60%, so my temps stay well under 80C (4870X2) up to you really, I know ATI's recent high end chips seem to shrug off heat, or are designed to handle a higher thermal envelope.

    ATI 4850 1GB Idle Temp...

    Does my 8800GT need ramsinks?

New card for E7200 CPU and 15 / 17 inch monitor

the 5670 is a very powerful cpu for the price, rivaling the 8800gt/9800gt in performance at a ridiculously low power consumption and load temp. It's probably one of the best mid range cards on my list since the old Radeon 9600XT

    4870 X2 vs. 58x0... Price/Performance

I got my 4870X2 for $355 US off of ebay in Feb 09. There is no reason that you couldn't find a deal for way under that, a whole year having passed. 4870X2 is a power hog tho, just to warn you, and once DX11 and tesselation starts getting all the devs behind them then you'd wish you bought...

Catalyst says 1GB on a 512MB 4770? [Solved] Plus flickering on mem overclock

most likely the memory chips used in the 4770s is not drawn from the same bin as the higher-default-clocked 4870 cards, which doesn't mean that they are defective. It just means that they won't be clocking as high as what some of the 4870's can do. I'd just stick with a core overclock and be...

    Graphics card or CPU/MB/RAM?

Opterons were essentially higher grade Athlon 64 X2s of the K8 family (server quality) with double the cache (1MB vs 512kb). The Opteron 170 is basically a 1MB cache Athlon X2 3800+ (2GHz). It's a very respectible cpu, but has been pretty much obsolete ever since Intel's Conroe (Core 2 Duo) came...

    5670 Review

actually benchmarks show that the GT240 barely beats the 9600GT an loses to 9800GT in pretty much everything. It won't be competetive with 5670 at the same price.

Assuming you own a 30inch isp, budget clearly is not much of a concern for you. Kudos to having a fatter wallet than the rest of us. Did I argue that TN can compare to ISP and PVA panel in color reproduction or viewing angles? Nope. Or I must've forgotten to mention that TN's are economic...

new video card not working on a new HP pc

lolz newegg has deactivated the product you posted, but I know what card you're talking about. most likely this is HP's fault with their proprietary hardware and whatnot. Are you upgrading to 4670 from an older card or onboard graphics? In most cases, if you don't move your computer around...

blanket trollism, you f4!L There are plenty of decent TN panels out there. No one is going to argue that they have better colors than S-PVA or e-IPS panels, but that doesn't mean all of them have crap colors. If you read the review on AT regarding the issue you'd find that some TN panels...

    Nvidia castrates Fermi to 448SPs

Dialing fermi down to 448sps is an economical move. Dropping to 448sps might effect fermi's competitiveness with AMD's high end, but that's where pricing comes into play, and it improves overall yields and probably means Nvidia is going the old route of 7800GTX->7900GTX, 8800GTX->8800Ultra...

    9600GSO 512MB 96 Shaders

I was under the impression that all 9600GSO's were 96shaders, the same number as the old 8800GTS 640/320mb cards. in that respect, it should outperform 4670s and the like.

    What Happened to BFG Tech?

meh, I had a EVGA 7900GT die on me too. I'd probably attribute that to cooling issues though. the stock clock for the 7900gt was 450, and I had mine clocked all the way up to 550. Crazy, I know, but the card ran fine at that speed for a solid two months before artifacting and eventually kicking...
