    Shuttle SX48P2 Disaster, need help!

Ok, I found a real picture of the motherboard under Tom Hardware's review... and shockingly the manual and that link to the picture I posted above are WRONG! Comparison, BIOS Chip on top left-corner of motherboard: On Manual: http://i.testfreaks.co.uk/imag...ima-series.1030269.jpg...

    Shuttle SX48P2 Disaster, need help!

Hi all, I felt I've just had the worst day.... Long story ahead... if you don't feel like reading, please just read the last 2 paragraphs. I have bought this Shuttle SX48P2 Deluxe along with a gigantic GTX 285 to go with it. It was a really tight fit but I managed to get it in... then I...

    Who will buy Nehalem ASAP?

Really have to live out my Q9450 @ 3.6GHz, so I'll take maybe whatever is after Nehalem probably.

    Asus AiSuite + Rampage Formula + Vista64

Yeah, we need power saving measures when we overclock as well. Heck, is there any other reason to get an expensive ASUS mobo other than to overclock it? :D I run Vista64 too, AISuite kinda worked, just that it blue-screened my system randomly whenever I enable the power-saving features. System...

    memory overclock causing graphical corruption?

Hmm, my understanding is system RAM wouldn't cause graphical glitches, but your graphics card's RAM would. If your system RAM can't handle certain overclock, your PC would just BSOD/freeze/crash. What OS do you use? It could be some graphical settings causing it and not your overclock. Or...

    Crucial ram, I'm noob

I've just checked my DRAM Controller Voltage REF, it's set to "DDR2_REF" and in-BIOS Hardware Monitor reads 0.992V. A little 0.048V difference shouldn't cause problems, right? Although... I was reading This Anandtech review, and at the bottom of that page, last screenshot, you'll see the DRAM...

    Any Good? CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel

Got the same memory on my Rampage Formula, 4 sticks of them at 1080MHz 5-5-5-15 2.0V, stable and runs just barely warm, love them.

    Hello fellow crunchers

Q6600 was only up to 3GHz with safe temps due to high ambient room temp (30C+ / 90F+). My rank in TA is probably somewhere in the 4 digits zone, been skipping crunching for a bit since my system eats up some 340 Watts whenever crunching and it's not so good for the electricity bill :( But I...

    Crucial ram, I'm noob

I have the same mobo and used the PC2 8500 Ballistix Tracers Crucial RAMs too on the mobo, 4 sticks too. Basically you can manually set the DRAM Command Rate to 2N, RAM timings in the 1st Information to 4-4-4-12 and let the rest of the RAM timings to Auto, pretty much applies to any RAM. Don't...

    Hello fellow crunchers

Just dropping by :) Been crunching for SETI@Home since 2003, finally got psyched up with Q6600... and even more with my Q9450. Using the 64-bit BOINC and 64-bit optimized science app AK v8.0 SSSE3x. Runs satisfyingly fast, completing each WU between around 30-45 mins, running 4 processes...

I'm doing SETI@Home right now, trying to catch a glimpse of what's out there  I have been looking at Folding@Home but thought I stick with S@H for now since I've been crunching for S@H since 2003 :D Thank you for the offer though, I'll stop by the Distributed Computing forum :)

    X3350 / Q9450 Overclocking Thread

I think it's about time for me to post my Q9450 overclock, got it like 2 months ago. Speed: 3.6GHz Multi: 8 FSB: 450MHz VCore: 1.40v in BIOS (LLC disabled, if enabled VCore is set to 1.35 in BIOS) Dram: 2.0V NB: 1.31V (BIOS hardware monitor is reading 1.2V though, weird) VTT: 1.30V...

    lower voltage shown on CPUZ

Yes, it is called VDrop. When you set your CPU at 1.4V in BIOS and CPU-Z is reporting 1.37V while your PC is idle is VDrop. When you give the CPU full load, CPU-Z should report the voltage even lower, to around 1.33V, this is called VDroop (yes, that's an extra 'o'). If you don't see this...

Help getting 3.8ghz on Q9450 stable

It could just be that your Q9450 won't go much over 450MHz FSB, perhaps that's your Q9450 FSB limitation. I know mine can't even boot to windows at 463MHz so I just backed down to 450MHz. To even having it running at 3.6GHz with 1.2625V without LLC is wow. Mine won't take anything lower than...

What does FSB VTT do? How should it be set?

Yes, VTT is the voltage for Front Side Bus (ASUS calls this the FSB Termination Voltage on their boards). This helps you when overclocking via the FSB. Don't set it too high especially on 45nm CPUs, no more than 1.45V. I set mine at 1.3V for 3.6GHz but personally wouldn't go over 1.4V.

    4gb v 8gb

You won't see any difference with 8GB, it may even perform slightly less vs 4GB. Nevertheless... I got myself 8GB anyway :o One thing I know & experience, the more memory you have, the longer your HDD grinds for getting Super Fetch ready.

    Q9550

Agreed. E8400 @ 4GHz wins on most games vs quads at even 3.6GHz. Quads will probably win on Lost Planet that can really use 4 cores. Once you start on distributed computing like Folding@Home, Seti@Home etc. and video encoding, you'll benefit more from quads.

I agree, you need to Clone Disk it to make what you're doing to work. In Acronis, go to Disk Utilities and select Clone Disk :)

    defective Q9450 ??

Yes, all of intel released quad cores are basically 2 dual core chips, with each dual core chip having 6MB (for normal yorkfields) of cache. So a total of 6x2=12MB of cache for Q9450 but not shared. I'm sure AMD's quad cores are shared cache and I think nehalem quad core will be shared cache as...

    X48 Platinum with QX9650

Perhaps the CMOS battery is losing power? Maybe you can try replacing the battery with a new one, although the mobo is new, it's not uncommon to find your CMOS battery already failing.

    Too hot for stock?

First, go to BIOS and check how much temp the BIOS is reading. If it reports much cooler temps, then Core Temp isn't the best app to monitor your CPU temp. If about the same, maybe you need to take the heatsink off, re-apply the thermal compound and re-seat the heatsink back.

    Poor Q6600 OC's

I didn't have problems overclocking Q6600 B3 on my Abit IN9 32X MAX (680i), was able to get 3.2GHz. Probably I could get more if it wasn't for the 32C / 93F room temperature, and I settled at 3GHz to have safer temps. The one problem I had was running the RAM at 900MHz+, above that I'd get...

Just got a Shuttle SG33G5, installed my Q6600, 500GB HDD and 2x1GB RAMs. Switched it on, went to BIOS, set everything up, Saved and Exited. Hmm... looks like it's having problem starting up... maybe I made a mistake in the BIOS. Once it gets back on again, re-did the BIOS.... and same thing...

Yes, set the multiplier manually to 9. Check CPU temp too, if it's extremely hot, it may have throttled down.

Vista 32 with 4GB RAM... how to tell how much is actually being utuilized?

In Task Manager, under Performance tab then Physical Memory (MB) section, you'll see Total (your installed memory), Cached (how much is used for Vista Super Fetch), and Free (amount left unused). Right now you're probably seeing the amount of "Free"physical memory is just as much as a single...

QUAD qx9650 @ FSB 450 Mhz is it safe?

Possible reasons why your PC crashes: 1. Your QX9650 cannot run at such high FSB 2. Your P5E34 Deluxe is having problems running at that speed 3. You didn't give enough FSB Termination voltage... but then again... yours is already at 1.4V... pretty much at the safe value limit for 45nm CPUs...

Is my mom's hard drive dead?

I had experience with dead HDDs, and all of them did the clicking sound per second. Usually there's a software If you want to be sure if it's dead or not, get...

Is 1066 Memory Really Worth It over 800?

1.61V NB just to have 2x2GB Dominator at 1066MHz 5-5-5-15? How much RAM voltage do you apply? I mean, I have 4 of the same sticks that you have there at 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 2.0V and NB is only 1.31V. Actually I can have NB at 1.2V and still pass OCCT without problems, but thought I give it a little...

Worth it to have 8GB over 4GB of DDR2-800 in Windows VISTA 64bit?

Using 4x2GB RAM here fine, running at 1066MHz, 5-5-5-15-2T, 2.0V and a little bump on the NB to 1.31V in BIOS. That may add burden to the chipset, but probably not as much as you think. Been playing UT3, COD4, BioShock, all went smoothly at 3.6GHz 450MHz FSB.

Quick Verification Needed : Divider etc

Yeah, just keep the PCIE and PCI frequency at stock, which are 100MHz and 33.33MHz respectively, don't let it on Auto, just set them manually at 100MHz and 33.33MHz. Those 2 won't creep up when you increase the FSB but it's best to make sure for them to stay locked at their stock speeds. Just...

QUAD qx9650 @ FSB 450 Mhz is it safe?

The only thing you can do to run the memory at 1800MHz is to use the memory divider as I mentioned. If you go to the BIOS, then go to the memory speed option, you can select which speed you want which I think has been pre-calculated with the memory divider against the FSB. This is the only way...

QUAD qx9650 @ FSB 450 Mhz is it safe?

VTT is also known as FSB Termination Voltage, at least on my ASUS Rampage Formula. To calculate the FSB required from the RAM perspective, you should have divided 1800 by 2, not 4. So technically, if you want to run your 1800 DDR3 1:1 to FSB, you'll need 900MHz FSB. CPU = Quad pumped FSB DDR...

QUAD qx9650 @ FSB 450 Mhz is it safe?

Things that will degrade CPUs are high voltages and high temperatures. It's recommended to not exceed 1.45V CPU voltage, 1.45V VTT, Temps of 75C full load. You can run your FSB as high as you can but when you reach one of those limits, then best to not go further. I limit myself to 1.40V on CPU...

How are you able to overclock makes no sense

You don't even have to overclock, Mid/Full Tower PCs exhaust enough warm air to increase the room's temperature. I have a computer room with just 1 PC, when the PC is not on, room is normal, probably around 27C. Once PC is on and has been running for a few hours, then you enter that room, you...

4 Cores 2 cores hot, 2 cores colder?

Yes, this is a common issue. There has been numerous reports that their 45nm CPU have 5-7C difference between Core 0+1 and 2+3. Nothing to worry about, even mine has 6C difference under Prime95.

    max FSB for 45nm quads?

Most quad core probably can hit 450MHz no problem, some can hit up to 470MHz. My Q9450 hit 450MHz without much sweat, tried 463 but wouldn't even POST. Didn't try between 450 and 463, cause I''m darn happy I could hit 450MHz resulting 3.6GHz. When I got this Q9450, all I asked was 3.2GHz...
