Should I buy some sort of PCI card to support my extra IDE devices, or is there some kind of splitter that would work?
Here's my setup:
Devices:
2x SATA HDDs
1x IDE/PATA HDD
2x IDE Optical drive
Mobo connections:
-Lots of SATA
-1x IDE
So here's the deal:
I booked a flight from Toronto to Halifax leaving at 6:30pm. It's a 2 hour direct flight from Sunwing, a relatively unknown airline, but it's cheap.
Today, I go online to print off my tickets, and the flight now departs at 10AM. I call them up to confirm the time...
If I'm out on a date with a girl, or catching up with a friend, I like to stay at least 20-30min after I'm done eating just to talk.
The longest I've stayed is probably about an hour, maybe even an hour and a half.
I'm never sure though, whether the restaurant staff want us to leave, or...
So, last week I got an assignment back in a course I'm taking in university as an elective.
I got a B+, above the class average. Cool. But, on second glance, I'm not sure my mark is fair.
The topic of the paper was comparing the standard of living in various countries. We were to attach...
So, say I want to list 3-letter files whose names are composed of a b and c.
I can do:
ls [abc][abc][abc]
That works.
But what's a better way to do that, using wildcards or anything else?
This is on my Acer Aspire One netbook.
Basically, these keys are not working right: u i o p j k l ; m
They display numbers, or other characters instead of what they should.
I downloaded the chipset drivers for the notebook, and it didn't help.
What should I do?
(I spilled some...
I bought some tickets online for a local concert a while back, and obviously had to register on the website.
Fast-forward a few weeks, and I receive a promotional email from them. I take a look at the addressees: there are hundreds of customers' email addresses listed right there.
Their...
Not sure about everywhere else, but Kijiji (.com, .ca) is really popular around here. If you're not familiar with it, it's a free classfied ad site like Craigslist, but with a better interface.
So here's the deal:
-Each ad has a street address associated with it.
-Beside the street address...
I have started adding metadata (Copyright, IPTC info) to all my photos in Bridge.
I've got over 200 folders of photos in the My Pictures directory on my computer.
Besides opening each folder, hitting Ctrl+A, and replacing the metadata, how can I change the metadata on all my images...
For a long time I'd just been using MiniNova, but now that Demonoid is back (!) I've reverted to sharing there.
Do you use private trackers? If so, which ones, and what's so great about them?

I think it's time for a reformat, after a year of having my copy of XP installed.
I have access to free copies of Vista Business and XP Pro 64-bit, through my school.
Which would you choose?
(I kept this out of Operating Systems, since it's more of an opinion thing)
Specs are:
Athlon...
So, I've been trying to rick roll this girl I've met in my university bio lab. We've become pretty good friends over the last couple weeks, and I want to play a joke on her. She knows what a rick roll is, and is pretty internet savvy.
I've tried to trick her on a number of occasions, but...
I've always wondered: What's the best way to get the most out of a buffet lunch?
Should you skip breakfast? In my experience, I haven't found that this works.
I want to get the most for my money, since I eat at the buffet so rarely.
I'm running Vista and find that even after adding another two sticks of 512MB, it is still very slow.
I looked at my memory configuration in the program Everest, and it says one of my sticks is running at PC3500 while the rest run at PC3200.
For having 2GB of RAM my computer is not very...
I'm looking for a wifi device that'll let me check my email while I'm on the go in the city.
I was thinking the PSP would work since it has a browser and a nice big screen, but then I thought there must be much better dedicated devices out there.
What do you guys use?
I'm planning on using skype to do some long-distance phone calls in the future.
What's a better solution: Buying a nice headset, or a buying a phone adapter or VOIP phone.
Tell me what you guys do.
Hi there,
I just recently upped my 2x512 configuration of DDR memory to 4x512. However, these are all different brands and speeds. The slowest sticks are at PC3200. However, when I boot my PC, the POST says that the memory is in dual channel mode.
I can't see any way in my BIOS to tell...
So my nice usb hub/multi card reader that was working so well for so long suddenly ceases to be recognized as a card reader, under Vista.
I tried it on a WinXP pc, and it was recognized as a card reader.
Any ideas on how to force Vista to recognize it?
When I was on WinXP, I had my home PC set up as an OpenSSH server, and I connected to my home PC when I was at school so that I could access school-blocked sites (e.g., Hotmail, Digg, etc).
Tried setting up OpenSSH on Vista, with no luck.
Do any of you guys tunnel traffic through your...
I'm heading to university next year and need to buy my own printer.
I'm not going to be printing photos, and just want a good document printer.
Which is more economical, laser or ink jet? My budget is ~$100, and I don't want to get raped on ink cartridge purchases.
Is any particular...
Title says it all. Accidentally put a CPU in backwards, and I had already put thermal paste on top of it.... so the socket got some thermal paste in it.
Is it possible to save the board? Or will that even hurt it?
We tried starting the system up, but we heard some sparks and smelled smoke.
I've got a codec pack installed and everything (think it's K-Lite), but WMP doesn't want to play DVDs.
"Can not play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card"
Should I uninstall my codec packs?
I would just use VLC...
Anyone know of any software that recovers broken JPEG files? I don't know what on earth happened to them, but they cannot be opened for some reason.
Thanks,
Stew
I loaded up a 720p .mkv file on my PC and the sound was okay but the video was lagging way behind.
I'm running a Athlon64 3000 /w 1GB RAM, and a 9600Pro video card.
What do I need to get to play 720p video?
Thanks
Stew
Hey guys. Looking for a good boot cd so that I can move some files Windows won't let me move, and then I'm planning to reformat.
So, I need a GUI and NTFS support so I can move my files to a new partition. Linux is okay.
Thanks for your suggestions,
Stew
I'm having problems so I'm moving my important data to a new partition.
However, XP won't let me move any of it! I don't get the + sign when I try to drag and drop, the cut command won't work, and neither does copy.
Any way to move the data without hooking the hdd up to another pc?
I tried making a new extra NTFS partition in PartitionMagic but it encountered errors and left me unable to boot. So I went into Recovery Console and used chkdsk /f to fix stuff. And it worked.
So I'm back in Windows but there's no taskbar or start menu! Even when I hit the Windows key...
I was just wondering if using any registry cleaning apps was even worth the time.
I mean, if Windows doesn't access the keys, it won't make a difference, right?
I'm graduating from HS this year and I'm pretty interested in computers/technology.
The most logical decision for university seems to be to take Computer Science.
Do you guys think that there are a lot of jobs for people with BCs's, and if so what kind?
I took this on my film SLR, and silly me, I didn't use my flash. So it's really noisy and the colours are off.
How would you go about fixing up this photo?
Thanks!
Hey guys,
I helped a friend replace his memory in his desktop, going from 2x256MB to 1x1024MB. System boots up fine and everything.
The only problem is that all of the sound in Windows is pretty much going at hyperspeed. In WMP and iTunes every song sounds like it's being performed by...
I use an electric razor and shave every 2 or 3 days. I've been shaving for about 4 years now. Anyway, it seems like whenever I shave I always get razor-burn on my neck.
I'm welcome to any tips on how to avoid this.
Thanks guys :)
