This was a switch from XP home to XP pro. Everything is working but Device Manager says no sound device installed. I am looking for a driver for a ASUS AC97 VIA chipset. Any info would be appreciated.

The existing driver dates back to 98. 98 tried to find a driver but it cant be identified. I figured getting a Win98 SE upgrade cd might be the best solution.
Any idea what to try?
The bios does not say single channel mode currently, so I am wondering if its working both channels or not. I guess I should DL sandra to see what that says. It runs vista fine on 1.5gig, but I think it would be better to have 2 especially if one channel is crippled.

I see these now - I...
System will not resume operation when coming out of standby. Requires a reset-power off/on and then the system displays a

Even when system is running at normal clock this problem is experienced. System config has not been changed for 8+ months...
The registry hack as it is written at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555540 does not seem to do squat for requiring 8 character complex passwords and OR 180 password expiration. I entered it as written (see below), but it still allows just about whatever the local security policy is set for...
Now, any time the second user (a general user account with NO admin privs) is logged in and the system is switched back to the admin account, the thing reboots.
Any ideas?
The machine has been sitting in a closet and had win 98. I added a pcmcia wireless and got the memory up to 192meg but it still has no sound. I think it needs an update to >9.0 bios for Win2K support. But the toshiba instructions seem to indicate I should have done the flash before trying the 2k...

I cant even create a new folder after this happens. Its been tried on 3 machines - using both SD card readers and also builtin slots. The files are on a thumb drive and total about 300 meg. But the cards are 1gig. Iv also tried two separate cards and they both have the same problem when getting...
Can anybody offer any suggestions on getting this thing more quiet in standby mode? All fans continue to run - no change in noise level.
I does stop the HD from what I can tell.

Bios was flashed to p96ba403.bst per vendor when I mentioned that the system did not appear to go into power save mode.
The system came up initially and I shut it back down to remove the floppy drive (NO USB) and close case up.

I have tried disabling and reenabling the controller for the rear panel USB ports via device manager. Nothing. The same device works fine on the wired front panel ports.
The vendor says I have to return the motherboard for replacement - WTF? - Any ideas?
thanks
I have the fsb at 300 and that should be about 2.1gighz. But the various monitors say 1.8gig (cpu-z) and core temp says 1.995 (with a 333?fsb). Voltage seems to say at 1.003 in cpuz.
The system halts operation with a long beep after presenting the windows XP desktop. I get a message on the bios that says sys halt due to overclock. However, there are no overclock settings selected in the bios. I am using normal operation. I had been using the V6 automatic overclock for about...
It runs ok with V8 settings. Temps seem to be 115/111 at idle. I never have seen it get above about 130 even at full utilization. Case has 120mm intake and exhaust fans in addition to a side CPU fan. Currently running a stock cpu cooler.
I tried pushing the FSB to 280 this morning and it...
