Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

    Holy crap that is nutz.

Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

Hehehe, the title was an exaggeration. Nobody in their right mind would argue E5's can really compete with E8's clock for clock. I just think that at 4G it's good enough for games and if you want a significant performance increase for the money you spend on an E8 you might as well get a quad.

Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

Malaysia, but I think this is OEM, got it for about $50 off ebay. Didn't expect much from it.

Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

True, but the thing that bugs me about the E8x00 is that for their price range you can get a quad these days.

Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

Actually I think there is something wrong with VID. The minimum voltage I can set in BIOS is 1.25 (IP35-E wouldn't let you undervolt).

Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

I am using a cooler master hyper tx2 that's just lying around, no the best.

Who needs a E8400 when you can do this?

E5200 + IP35-E, passed two hours OCCT small. Vdroop is a bit much, 1.35v in BIOS. E5200 overclocked

Newegg has 3850HD also for 40 AR. With only $10 rebate, may be a better deal.

    ...

It's the ghetto factor, the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when your push your cheap as dirt system to the extreme. Overclocking lost a lot of its fun when you can just throw unlimited money at your rig. It's like that toy that you skipped lunch a month to buy when you are ten. Nothing is as fun...

    OC stability issue with E2140 @ 3.2GHz?

More vcore will do. It will not die in a few months, these 65nm guys are tough and can take a beating.

why cant i hit 3 ghz?

This makes no sense at all. It probably is vcore, if OP has a bum chip then a raise in vcore is all the more neccessary.

Holy crap can you run that thing stable 24/7 at 4G? If so I might consider building yet another rig.

What is your all time favourite CPU?

I still remember going from my 386SX20 to a PII-266, that was pretty massive. Unbelievably the 386 still works, I was playing Angband on it a few years back just for kicks.

Not to mention the Q6600 is an oven overclocked..... although this may be exactly what OP is looking for in cold cold Canada.....

What is your all time favourite CPU?

Even though I have a Q6600 running smoothly at 3.6, I found myself unable to give up the old E2140@3.4. In fact I found myself doing most of my work and play on this backup pc while the quad is collecting dust. That little E2140 is just my all time fav.
  28. D

Chose the Q9550 instead. (Was: E8400 and video editing (using Premiere)?)

what about good old Q6600? that would eat your E8400 alive for encoding

heh heh , for encoding you are much better off spending a few extra bucks for a q6600.

    1. My 386SX20 from 1992. I think it still runs 2. E2140@3.4G, first time over 100% overclock.
