    5770 or 4870???

Just got my MSI Hawk HD 5770 1GB at Newegg last week when it was $175 and finally had a chance to play with the new card over the weekend. :) Rockin' good card. Install went well, using ATI 10.3 Preview Drivers. Installed MSI Afterburner which was obviously designed by Alexey Nicolaychuk the...

When you buy a new GPU for gaming, what do you do with your old one?

Joined Ebay in 2000 to sell my first card to help pay for the new one and I've been doing it ever since. It helps a great deal when you don't have deep pockets. Lately I've been going with XFX because I can transfer the Lifetime Warranty to a new owner and get more money when I sell the card.

Your very own first Video Card, post here!

Well, not sure which was the first as I'm confused about the order of the first several. Guess I could google it, but anyway ....here's my Graphics Card ladder. Yeah I know, plenty of side-grades but I've always enjoyed playing with new hardware and thanks to Ebay I've been able to afford it by...

Sad News: Chris Ray of Nvidia's Focus Group passes away.

I may not have always agreed with what Chris had to say, but I respected his opinion immensely and always found what he had so say worthwhile reading....always. RIP Chris, you got a raw deal and wish you were still here to comment and enjoy all the changes in graphics coming in the next...

Radeon 5xxx Owners Report Grey Screens/Hangs

Yay!! Just installed my brand-new XFX HD 5770 and it took about 10 min. for first GSOD. Thought I may get lucky and be spared. Yes I did a full-driver clean-out and the rest, I've been at this for quite a while. Lowered my mem clocks from 1150 to 1100 which I saw suggested in several threads...

    Video Card Warranties and Ebay

Yup, right on the money. Just Ebayed a XFX GTX 285 and got more for the card becuase I was able to offer the Transferable Lifetime Warranty from XFX. That was one of the reasons I bought an XFX card last round, that and it was on sale at Newegg. You are correct about Registering within 30...

    AMD 4870 x2 on Gigabyte P35 DS3L

Just came from a similar thread and your board would workout just fine. The current crop of PCI-E 2.0 cards work just as fast on boards such as yours and mine, if there is a difference at all, it would be minimal.

    eVGA Step Up question

More or less what sentry said. Keep your current card, wait for the prices to drop on the new GTX 260 216SP to what you paid for your old GTX 260 192SP card, and then just Step-up by paying only the shipping cost. Performance wise they're very close, so unless you can do it by just paying...

Fan Speed Fix for HD 4870?

Setting the fan speed to 37%-38% drops my temps by 30C for me and I only use one profile. I ran Fur Mark at max settings for an hour and the highest temps I recorded were 89C-90C and Crysis is any harder on your GPU than Fur Mark. So the best thing you can do is just monitor your temps during a...

Fan Speed Fix for HD 4870?

The actual origin of this fan fix is from Guru3D.com forums and the originator's name is Bretware. I modified his step-by-step a bit and that is the version you have above and I guess someone posted it on UT3 forums. I also added some edits to it which may be of some value as well .... Edit...

GT200b to launch at Nvision 08 (Aug 25-27)

I can't argue with this at all. I've had my heart set on the X2 from all the previews that I've seen, but if can Nvidia step up to the plate with a single GPU solution that offers even almost the performance of an X2 for a similar price, I would definitely consider going green again.

    hd4800's AND AA??!!

Same here with my HD 4870. Just set it an forget it. Everything I have runs great using 8xAA/16xAF. I was floored after using it in just a few games as I wasn't expecting that much of an improvement from my GTS G92. Even very old games such as Land of the Dead were improved visually. IQ totally...

    4870X2 vs GTX280 Poll

I don't think you'll need to spend $250 on a PSU. I just picked up this Corsair 750TX with +12V rail @ 60a for $119. I think it would work fine for you even with a whopping 4 Terabytes worth of HDs you own. Review stated it could also deliver 900W of power at 80% efficiency...

    4870X2 vs GTX280 Poll

Where can I order the HD 4870X2 Please? :D I have a single-slot board. The previews against the single GTX 280 have been impressive and after owning the HD 4870, I can't wait to see what the X2 will do. Also I came from using a 8800GT and a 8800GTS G92 and forgot just how good ATI's IQ really...

I totally agree. Especially with off-the-wall problem like the one in this thread. So this problem is resurrecting itself again huh? That's great. Looks like everytime they add a new card to the line-up they're going to have to come up with a fix for this issue and add it to the drivers...

    8800gts 512 worth upgrading?

Upgraded from that exact card to a HIS HD 4870 and all I can say is wow. IQ is off the hook and I'm running everything maxxed at 8xAA/16xAF @ 1680 X 1050. Needless to say, I'm extremely happy with the performance boost. Everything is so much smoother now. I really didn't expect to see the...

    Best Stress Test out there

I agree. ATITool or ATI Tray Tool's 3DRenderer work amazingly well. Run them for 3 Hours and you'll know your stable. As far as rthdribl goes which some others have mentioned, that app is very dated and my last 3 cards didn't even break a sweat running it, sorry.
