Deneb is coming out roughly at the same time as the i7 but based on early reports should only be as fast as Intel's Penryn generation. That might turn out to be good enough to compete if AMD opts for really aggressive pricing. However AMD seems to be stuck in a rut of constantly being a...
IIRC it goes 0 - 1 - 3 - 2
Edit: your temps probably means that your heatsink base and/or heatspreader are not flat. If you don't mind voiding your warranty, consider lapping them to get more even contact. On the other hand though 4c isn't a huge variation and probably not worth the trouble...
Nope. Get a new motherboard. I'm guessing if you have a mobo with AGP it's time to upgrade more than just the mobo though. Look into buying a lot of new stuff.
If you can go without gaming for a week and a half, the new nvidia cards are coming out and based on early indications will blow the current stuff out of the water. You might as well save your money and spend it on the new tech, or get some EVGA or BFG cards then use their step up programs (but...
Ugh... so much disinformation in this thread.
First of all, all LCDs have motion blur - it is an inherent trait in the way LCDs are built. The crystals can only rotate at a certain speed and the longer it takes them to do so, the higher the perceived effect of motion blur is. However...
Use Rivatuner to increase your fan speed a bit (50% should be fine, but the higher the cooler obviously) and you'll be fine. The newer 8800GT revisions have a larger fan which produces more airflow at less noise.
There are a whole bunch of entries on that list that don't exist, e.g. 8900GTX. I think those might be user-added entries or something. There's no way EVGA would release a SEX edition, even though there's one in that list.
A few months ago I was one of the people screwed over by the $200 Dell 8800GT deal which eventually resulted in several phone calls and them giving me $100 off of a purchase of a video card from there. I bought an EVGA 8800GT SC for $289 but only paid $189. If the 9800GTX comes out at the $300...
Mine is G0, vid = 1.325
Can run 3.0ghz at stock voltage (1.264 at idle after droop)
I can run 3.4ghz stable at 1.41 (real) but that was a little high for my taste.
Being taped out means very little... Intel Nehalem was taped out several months ago and it's not going to be out for at least another 6 months.
Also releasing new stuff now makes barely any business sense. Remember Intel's PPT slide about process refinement over time leading to lower...
Did you check the flatness of both surfaces with a razor blade? Flatness is way more important than the mirror shine.
Is the heatsink seated properly?
Did you use the right amount/kind of thermal paste?
Not true. I got a 15°C drop in load temperatures after lapping. It even helped me get a better OC.
The thing about lapping is that if you do it slowly and correctly, there's not much risk involved. If you get impatient and start doing stupid things then that's your own fault.
And yeah, as...
BonzaiDuck - I went down to bare copper with just the 200 grit then kept going just for good measure. Then I took off some more during the process of going through the higher grits. Also, the ambient temperature was 22°C.
Taltamir - The warranty thing is almost a non-issue. CPUs very rarely...
So I finally took the dive and lapped my CPU and heatsink. I have a Q6600 G0 and the original Thermaltake Big Typhoon. I was having second thoughts at first about doing it, but after reading all of the different results people were getting, I decided I would give it a try (especially since the...
Heh, I completely took all the hardware out and reseated it, and one by one I added things back. It turns out the culprit was...
*drumroll*
The CD-ROM IDE cable! I've replaced it and my HD works perfectly now! Go figure.
I guess I should be disappointed that it came down to such a...
I tried that - the diagnostics CD would hang at "Starting Caldera DR-DOS"
I tried putting the diagnostics on the floppy but it said the write window must be closed even when it was closed so it wouldn't let me write to it.
And yes, I tried a different SATA cable.
Edit: Problem fixed! See my other post below.

I recently upgraded my RAM, CPU, vid card, and processor and I decided I would reformat my hard drive for good measure. I was able to boot into my existing windows installation from my old build and do whatever I wanted as if the drive were...
I heard from a buddy that this isn't possible, so it looks like I'll either deal with the screws as they are or get a new heatsink. I've heard good things about the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro in that it's a very powerful cooler for a low price. My goal is to get a Q6600 G0 to 3ghz - will this...
I'm currently using a Thermaltake Big Typhoon on my socket 939 system, and I'm looking to ugprade to a new 775 system (probably with a DS3L mobo, if it matters). Since the Big Typhoon is 775 compatible, I thought I would save a couple of bucks by reusing it in my new build. My main issue with...
