Can anyone recommend a good cheap power supply?

Not really. It's made by Solytech. So it's definitely a very very low quality PSU not even worth the $25 price tag.

    Which power supply is better?

The StealthXStream line of PSUs are based on FSP's Episilon PSU design which has out of spec ripple, or voltage fluctuations, at high loads that can damage or kill your system. Granted, you may not reach such high loads but why pay for a PSU that can kill your system?. So Seasonic hands down.

Can anyone recommend a good cheap power supply?

Yes $40 is waay too low for a quality PSU. The cheapest you can spend on a quality PSU before rebates is this Antec EA380 380W PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817371005

    $450 build

I concur with brblx and yh125d: Get a better PSU. Rosewill makes/brands some pretty shitty PSUs. As such, that 400W PSU might actually be a 200W or 300W PSU. I wouldn't want to use it for more than a week. In addition, a low quality PSU can still die and kill parts even if the system is of a low...

Any recommendations for a PSU going into a file server that can support up to 10 SATA HDDs?

What are the specs of the server? The EA380 is barely enough depending on the specs. Assuming 2A each per drive at startup, that's roughly 20A being used by the drives alone, leaving roughly 7A or 84W leftover for the CPU, mobo, RAM, CD-Drive, and fans.

    Dell Optiplex gx 620 PSU

A quality 550W PSU like the BFG LS-550 will be more than enough for that setup. Try not to pay more than $80 for a quality 550W PSU since there are quality 650W and 750W PSUs in the $90 to $110 range. Are you sure you can't cut out the metal plate in the back to fit in a PSU with a button...

Looking for a new PSU .....

The Corsair 400CX can be found for the exact same price on Newegg but with free shipping and 3A more on the +12V rail: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139008 It is also Seasonic made.

What size power supply do I need

Are you using a Kill-A-Watt or UPS to measure your wattage usage? If so, disregard it. Kill-A-Watts have been shown to be very inaccurate when used with PSUs with APFC, which a majority of quality PSUs these days have.

Is a Corsair 400 enough for my build?

According to the Corsair PSU finder, the Corsair 400CX 400W PSU will be enough for that setup as long as you do not OC at all: http://corsair.com/psufinder/default.aspx So don't OC or plan on waiting for a while for good PSU deal to come.

Can anyone recommend a compact or short PSU?

There aren't that many good quality small sized PSUs out there let alone ones that can support your system. Probably the best small PSU I could find on Newegg was the Seasonic ECO 300. The Seasonic ECO 300 (comes with a bracket to allow it to be used with ATX) would work if you drop both the...

Help a confused nub out with electricity reqs ! ;)

Yeah with that kind of system, I would not trust the Coolermaster PSU. Definitely replace that PSU. The BFG LS-550 or the Corsair 650TX at $80 and $100 respectively from newegg are good choices.

Should I pick up a new PSU?

While the Truepower II 550W has enough power for that system, the Truepower II series were well known for their above average failure rate due to a poor choice of caps and the cooling method. I recommend getting a new PSU like the BFG LS-550 or Corsair 650TX which can be had for $80 and $100...

    can i upgrade to 9600gt ?

I concur with Dark Cupcake: I would not risk your system with that more than likely generic crappy PSU. Also, the 9600GT uses more than twice the power of the 8600GT: http://www.gpureview.com/show_...hp?card1=513&card2=557

    Temporary PSU replacement

Assuming that you don't get fucked on the rebate, the PC P&C 500W PSU is a good choice. Just don't get the OCZ PSU since the PSU platform it's based on is a bit suspect.

PSU upgrade for a Dell E520

Ditch the Coolermaster PSUs. The 460W can only provide 430W reliably and safely while the 500W costs too much IMO considering your other choices. The FSPs are meh quality. I have that AX400-PN in one of my systems. However I would not recommend it to anyone else since its +12V rail is kind of...

    OCZ GameXStream 700w + 260 GTX?

Man I really should start coming to this forum more often: Ditch that GameXStream PSU. It's based off the FSP Episilon PSU design which has out of spec ripple, or voltage fluctuations, at high loads that can damage or kill your system. Granted, you may not reach such high loads but why pay...

430W power supply good enough for a 4870?

Which 500W PSU do you have? Not all 500W PSUs are the same you know. Unless you live outside the U.S, quality PSUs can be had for a cheap price. Not too familiar with the pricings and availability of PSUs in other countries so can't say anything about that. Also what are the rest of the...

430W power supply good enough for a 4870?

Shit, didn't get here in time. Just an FYI, don't use that StealthXStream past 500W or so.
