New Home Pre-Wired ... Where is the other end of the cable?

That's a great point. I'm going to call the insurance company shortly.

New Home Pre-Wired ... Where is the other end of the cable?

I can do that sort of thing myself without the use of that device. Just hooking up a battery to two wires and then using a multimeter on the other end will tell me which wire is which. The problem is I have no idea where the other ends of the wires are, they seem to be missing.

New Home Pre-Wired ... Where is the other end of the cable?

Yep, I've tried all of that, no luck :( Yep, I've looked in there, not much to see. :( Thanks! :D

New Home Pre-Wired ... Where is the other end of the cable?

Contacting the builder yielded nothing. I think he contracted the wiring out to a 3rd party and never got the blueprints, he suggested we "contact an expert" to help us. Will that cable checker you linked be able to detect through walls?

New Home Pre-Wired ... Where is the other end of the cable?

My family recently purchased a new construction that was supposedly pre-wired with ethernet in every room. I was upset when I found out the cables are CAT 5e (I was hoping for CAT 6 or better), but here is the real problem: There is a panel in an upstairs bedroom that contains a panel for all...

    Vista IP Forwarding

This thing is too complex for me to start trying to do that. It seems (actually I think I'm pretty sure) that the devs do NOT want people to use proxies. I don't care though, there's no other way for me due to my firewall conditions =(

    Vista IP Forwarding

Hi all, I'd like to setup IP forwarding (not quite sure that is the correct terminology) on Vista32. My use case for this is as follows: 1. I have an app that tries to connect to hardcoded ip X at port P1 - X: P1 2. My firewall is blocking port P1 3. Using SSH tunneling, I set P1 as...

    Reciever + Speaker Setup

Hi all, I plan on hooking up xbox/ps3/wii/computer sound to one set of speakers. I don't know much about sound peripherals, but I'm guessing that I will need a receiver that has some optical audio (for the xbox) and some analog inputs as well as input coming from my sound card. Can anyone...

    LCD Desk Arm Mount

Hey all, I'm looking for a arm mount for a Dell 2408WFP that would clamp on to the rear of my desk and be able to move the screen up/down/left/right and pivot/tilt as well. Can anyone recommend a quality product? Most of what I've seen are wall/ceiling mounts which is not what I would like...

I've gotten my system stable for quite some time now with 8 gigs of the Transcend ram in there, I didn't have to update the BIOS but memtest DOES fail (even though my system is 100% stable) *sigh* I will update the BIOS if it ticks be off soon I RMA'd the GA-EP35-DS4 and got a new working...

    Looking for a 1TB

I'm looking for a few 1TB's to put into a fileserver running Samba for a few users. I'm more interested in performance rather than how quiet the drive is. Either way, I was looking at the Samsung F1 but it seems like they do not preform very well in multi-user environments. Although my...

How would I limit user storage space?

Yep, Samba is smart enough to report the quota left instead of the total filesystem free! yay

    Gigabit issue with Vista??

The drivers on the Realtek's site are the same as the ones I already had. I reinstalled them with no dice. I also installed the diagnostic utility. There were some tests to run on the card which all passed, and it did some checks on the cable which all came out normal.

No, they are bought from a reputable distributor, snagless Cat6. I'm using the same sort of cable for my Ubuntu box with no problems...

    Gigabit issue with Vista??

Hi all, I've been in the process of upgrading to a gigabit setup, I didn't have any cat5e cables so I ended up getting cat6. Replaced the cat5 with the cat6 in my 3+ year old box running Ubuntu and everything works perfectly, switch and box both say I'm connected at gigabit no problems...

How would I limit user storage space?

Great! This should serve my purposes then: 1. Create an array and setup a filesystem at /dev/mda or whatever using mdadm. 2. Mount /home to /dev/mda 3. Enable usrquota on /home 4. Setup quotas for the users 5. Set their home directories to use with Samba This way, when the users...

How would I limit user storage space?

I'm using this system as a fileserver with Samba on it. I've set up Samba users that I think are tied with user accounts on the actual system. At the moment, the respective home directories are used for the Samba mounting point. Everything works great. However, I would like to limit the...

Thinking about a fileserver setup + raid

Amazing, and save $600. This box will not be CPU bound. What are the benefits of the RAID controller then? If the hardware RAID controller is OS bound by filesystem, then is there a real gain?

Thinking about a fileserver setup + raid

Thanks all for the replies. The 1TB drives were just an example to make the calculations easy =) @Fullmetal Chocobo: what fs are you using on your RAID with the Areca card? @Nothinman: Can you go into some of the pros and cons of the Linux software RAID vs a dedicated RAID controller card?

Thinking about a fileserver setup + raid

Hi all, I have a perfectly decent box lying around wasting cycles that I'd like to turn into a server. It would be beneficial for me to have a web server running with things like SSH, SVN, with multiple user accounts, etc. I was thinking of running some sort of Linux distro (probably Ubuntu)...

Wacky E8400 CoreTemp and SpeedFan temps...

Ok, I got Everest installed and it shows me the same sort of thing I've already mentioned. For 100% usage non-overlocked: For "CPU #1 / Core #1" it shows 68 degrees, the same temps that Core Temp was giving me. For "Aux" (which I read somewhere is your CPU temp) it reads 44...

@Germonicus I guess we're in the same boat atm. I'll let you know what I figure out. Your temps seem way too low and mine seem way too high =) I have a Gigabyte mobo so I doubt PC Probe II will work for me, but I'm going to try Everest when I get home. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wacky E8400 CoreTemp and SpeedFan temps...

Alright, I will try that. What is the normal safe zone for CPU temp for the E8400? @aussietilgar I will try reseating it, but I doubt it will help. I'll see how the temps work out with each overclock step, ty.

I broke driver signing and I run it in administrator mode, I also uninstalled two Vista updates. I can't find the stuff I read about it, but this looks promising. Help me pick 2xMonitors!

I'm looking for 2x monitors for a multimedia setup for my rig. I have a 20" widescreen Dell at the moment that will be used for an old box. I've used 24" widescreens for a while and I really like the size. Not too big not too small and the 1920x1200 resolution looks good to me. I have an...

Just built a rig, can't install Vista...

Yeah I've replaced the mobo, and found out one of the ram sticks was bad as well. I'm running VMWears and what not. More ram helps with page faults and can be used as a buffer cache as well so the more the merrier imo ;)
