    Fatties...

I'm out of town visiting family and was asked by a relative to work on their car. No problem, except I didn't bring any work clothes. So, I head over to the local Walmart to buy a cheap $10 pair of jeans and a few t-shirts, work gloves, etc. I wear a size 32 pant... Walmart was sold out of...

    Suzuki Boulevard M90 Opinions

I'm planning to buy a new cruiser sometime before the end of the year. I'll be testing out the M90 on Friday. If you have experience with or thoughts on this bike I would love to hear them. Right now this bike is at the top of my paper list but you never really know what a bike is like until you...

    I never leave the office...

Quick post. The wife and I are both telecommuters for the same F200 company. We are both also in med school (pharmacy and optometry). Our once small, home office with a single desk and single PC is now: 4 separate, identical desks (1 in each corner) 4 computers (2 work issue, 2 personal) 6...

I'm puzzeled by Twitter, MySpace, etc...

When I was a kid (and I'm not old, I'm 25) most adults I knew wanted to keep their personal lives private. They shared their stories and experiences with family and friends mostly and weren't that interested in complete strangers knowing their business. Now days though, things seem to be...

    Old hardware? No problem.

A while back the PSU in my old spare PC died and took the video card with it. A couple weeks ago I did a mild rebuild with some new parts and some used parts. The new parts included an Enermax Tamahawk 500 watt PSU ($65) and an ATI Radeon 2600XT 512 (AGP) video card (also $65). The used parts...

    iHate iTunes

I've never cared for iTunes and I finally removed it (along with all other Apple software from my PC) after having it lock up on me continuously. I'm looking for a 3rd party iPod file manager for my Video iPod. I know there are several out there but rather than try each one I figured you guys...

I need a new lawn tractor...

Right now I have a Murry that I bought new in 1999 for $1000 at Home Depot. It has a 15HP, single cylinder, Briggs & Stratton engine. The cutting deck is 40" with two blades. The engine runs great and I have never had any problems with it. I don't do anything to it for winter and it starts up...

    Camping loadout

I know we have some campers, hikers and hunters here. What do you typically carry in your pack when your out in the sticks? I was doing a little inventory today of my camping gear. It seems every time I go out I end up with another piece of gear to drag along. I do travel as light as possible...

    Make it stop...

Someone... somewhere... nearby, possibly on my street or the next street over is playing a tuba or an oboe or some other sort of horn. I can faintly hear it, sort of like a ringing in your ears after hearing something very loud... It's getting really obscene! Make it stop! Argh! :|

    Frontier Communications

Long story short (ok maybe not): My wife works from home now, her company requires a dedicated 1.5 mbps / 512 kbps DSL connection which they will pay for. The upstream is important because she will be using a VoIP phone. We already have a 10 mbps / 1.5 mbps cable connection from Charter but...

Valve "Retail Box" games and Steam

If I purchase a Valve retail box game like Left 4 Dead am I going to need a Steam account to play it? Also, does the game get permanently tied to one specific Steam account the way it does if you buy the game through the Steam Store? I don't want to have to keep up with another user account...

I'm tired of having a loud PC...

Semi-long rant: I have a loud PC. I'm an IT guy and I work on this PC pretty much 8-10 hours a day in my home office. The hardware was high end in 2006 (FX60, X1950XTX, Raptor 74GB, etc). The hardware runs hot. I love it though, plenty of horsepower for what I do. The noise though, it's...

    Top Gear: Australia

After re-watching the entire first season (back to back) it's painfully obvious there needs to be a lineup change. Warren Brown has to go. This man is just shouldn't be on television at all. He may be a fine cartoonist and seems like an OK guy but he just isn't "built" for TV. I don't know...

A boring PC is fun again!

I have an old clunker of a PC from HP that I use as a work machine. It has a Pentium D 960 (3.6 GHz), 3GB of ram and a Radeon 3850 video card. The machine was previously running Windows XP Professional and I can't complain about the functionality as XP is very solid and very stable. With this...

Well, my Antec TP-II 430 is slowly dieing.

Back in 2006 I assembled a PC out of spare parts sitting around the house. I bought the PSU brand new from CompUSA and the system ran great, pretty much 24/7 for over two years until this week. Specs: -Some no-name brand nForce 4 motherboard -Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.4GHz -2GB DDR400 -WD 40GB...

What is the temperature inside your house/apartment/condo?

Right now it's around 63F inside my house. My overclocked PC is running great! :) The heat will kick on if it drops below 60F. I have all my windows open. At night time I bump the t-stat up to about 68F. What can I say, anything over 70F and I'm sweating like a pig.

Who will not be purchasing Far Cry 2 because of its DRM?

Sadly, I have to say I won't be purchasing Far Cry 2 based on the included DRM and limited number of installs. This might be an unpopular opinion but I think it is a valid one. 1.) I refuse to buy a game with heavy DRM and limited installs. The developer and the publisher are losing my money...

    Polls - Nonsense.

These "supposed" voter inquiry polls are pure nonsense. Ever wonder why today Candidate A is up by 1/2% and the next day Candidate B is up by 1/2% only to be passed yet again the following day by Candidate A? It's a horse race and it has everything to do with newspaper sales, TV news ratings...

I've been using Fedora 9 on my Dell notebook for about a week now. So far so good. I don't really have any software for Linux so I'm stuck using Freeware (like Open Office, which is terrible if I'm honest). If there was more application support I could see using this day to day for a work...
