    Gigabyte X58 MB + 3 x 2GB = $240-30mir= $210 plus ship

Goddam picky, aren't you? Too many legacy connectors.....and the only legacy connectors would be....the two PS/2 ports.....for the kb and mouse....not exactly too many and not unexpected. Good thread crap.......... And great deal, btw, OP!

Buying a new cpu block today for a cpu/nb only loop....

CPU is a Q9650 OC'd to 3.8-4.0GHz, NB block is EK S-Max block, pump is DDC2 w/XSPC top and a Swiftech Micro-Res reservoir. Trying to decide on a new cpu top to go along with the new cpu....the Q9650 is new today....just breaking it in under a D-Tek v1. I'm thinking of either an EK Supreme...

    Intel sockets

Exactly!!!! Amazing what a name makes some people think........... Xeon 775 socketed cpus work in pretty much any motherboard compatible with the equivalent C2D/C2Q cpu. I even had a Xeon X3210 working in an Intel X975 BadAxe motherboard...flawlessly.

How "much" video card will I need to get good performance at 1920x1200 resolutions...

OK.....rest of system, which could make a difference (No SLI.....) Asus X38 Maximus Formula motherboard, Asus HD4850 vid. card, 4 x 2GB Mushkin Redline DDR2 RAM, 1TB Western Digital Black hd (OS), 1TB WD Green hd for storage, Vista Ultimate x64, watercooling (GTZ cpu block, EK S-Max NB...

How "much" video card will I need to get good performance at 1920x1200 resolutions...

I've got an ATI 4850 card and, while currently using a 22" widescreen monitor (1680x1050 resolution), am buying a new monitor next week (24" or 26") with a 1920x1200 resolution. Question is.......how much more video card do I need to get "good" performance.....will adding another 4850 in...

C2Q clockspeed to beat an i7

PCTC2, you have to also consider that RaptureMe most likely has HT turned off......from what I've seen and read, to achieve a 4.0GHz overclock on the i7 920, HT invariably has to be turned off to get it stable, which is why his processor, even at that speed, is being beaten by his slower C2Q...

    9550 Running at 2.0?

And to that I call shens......the switch is so fast, by the time you possibly could "notice" anything different, the cpu is at its "normal" speed. The only time it's downclocked is in total idle.....open a program and it's back to full speed almost instantaneously. I seriously doubt anyone...

7750BE or M3A78-CM.....Whose at Fault?? Resolved - Somewhat...

Since the motherboard, memory, video card all work with the Brisbane 4000+ cpu and just switching one component, your cpu, causes it to not function, you may have the cpu as the casue....esp. if the motherboard is able and capable of running your new 7750BE chip.

    Better cpu upgrade.....E8500/8600 vs. Q9550......

OK...."secondary" machine has an Asus Maximus Formula motherboard, 4 x 2GB Mushkin DDR2-1000 RAM, ATI HD4850 video card, but a lowly E7200 cpu that is hard pressed to break 3.4GHz at 1.2V. So, am looking at upgrading the cpu only.....well, maybe the video card, too, but that's irrelevant...

    Playing Monopoly with real money.

How long would the game last? Only ask because I think a casino would view a game that takes hours to complete would absolutely HATE the payout, esp. compared to something like craps, blackjack, slots, roulette....all of which take just a minute or two to give the casino your money......in...

    Hypothetical WC build

The GTZ would probably cool within a couple of degrees C of the the EK Supreme, but the EK Supreme is probably one of the most restrictive blocks out there......needs to be in its own loop, and probably not even include a Northbridge cooler, either. I've read that the EK Supreme needs lots of...

    Hypothetical WC build

Nice selection.......but a few suggestions for you. First, the threading of your fittings you linked to probably won't thread into any block or radiator...most, except for the Thermochill, use G1/4 BSPP or NPSM threading, completely incompatible with NPT threads. They'll go in a little then...

    Made my own ram cooler

Nice job on the RAM coolers.....those fans are great. Am using one on my SB heatsink....quiet and moves decent amounts of air for what they are. One thing, though. The tubing leading to the inlet of your D-Tek cpu block looks like it has a bad kink in it. I know you had a hard 45 degree...

Which one is better for gaming?

While I'm glad to see AMD putting out something somewhat competitive again, the PII 940 is clearly competitive with the Q9550, not the i7....which is too bad given that AMD's PII cpu is their current gen of cpu while its direct price and performance competition is Intel's previous gen cpu...

    Q6600/GA-X48-DS4 wont boot when cold??

Seems you're not alone.....just a quick google for your board and cold boot problems brought up pages of people who seem to have experienced the same problem you're having. Most seem to think it's more related to the OC settings than anything else. Some quotes from other people and their...

9 yr old Compaq pc case

Also examine how the front panel connections are made, such as the power/reset buttons, USB/audio, etc. I was looking at an older Dell Optiplex case and its motherboard.....was going to pull the mATX board out of the Dell case and put it into a "standard" mATX case. The front connector was a...

    New Phenom II X3 AM3 at Frys $124 (1 Ghz+ Overclock!!!)

Why not compare the two? Top of AMD's cpu line and top of Intel's line. Cannot blame Intel for having a quad core and AMD can only, presently, put out a tri-core. And in the "test" linked above, I see the "tester" went out of his/her way to "help" the AMD chip by using some quite fast DDR2...

Better video card upgrade route for a penny pincher....

Hey, thanks for all the input.......guess I'll just save some $$ on buying a new video card for now and put that $$ into a better screen. As my gaming isn't that intense, if I need to do a major upgrade, guess I'll try the Crossfire solution first.....cheaper avenue and all. ;) Thanks!!!

Yeah, sorry. Looking at moving to at least a 24" with the res. you mentioned.

please help and tell me diferences between two monitors

Dude, if they both use a 24" TN panel, I highly doubt you'd notice a heck of a lot of difference, esp. considering they're from the same manufacturer. Think it'd come down to color accuracy, input lag, features you want, etc.

Better video card upgrade route for a penny pincher....

OK...I'm cheap sometimes....and while contemplating an upgrade to a new video card scheme, I'm looking at two options. First, I've got a first gen. Asus HD4850 presently running....... But I'm moving up to a higher res. monitor in a couple of weeks (presently using a 22" widescreen LCD)...

$350 Paint Job From MAACO: Results are IN!

That's what I've understood, too. Like they use your old paint as the primer layer for the new paint, only putting on real primer in spots that HAVE to be primer'd, like if they actually sand down rust spots or do any body work.

    Is buying a 1200W PCP&P just stupid?

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing that......but you get some people who insist particular brands build their ps's themselves when it's a known fact they're built by other OEM's....to the spec of the designer company, of course. Corsair does this, too.....Seasonic and Channel...

    Is buying a 1200W PCP&P just stupid?

And, for that matter, PCPower&Cooling doesn't manufacture anything either.....they are just a rebrander and wiring modifier of power supplies other OEM's build like Enermax, if you're going down that road. At least Enermax does try to do positive fixes on their power supplies, such as finally...

Cheapest PSU that won't nuke my components

The Silverstone is rather old and dated design from Enhance.....look at the voltage selector on the rear of the power supply. The Antec EA380 is a much newer design from Delta with Active PFC. That in itself is enough for me to choose the EA380. In fact, that 400W Silverstone unit was...

    Mobo shorting with case?

Just a note....standoffs don't come with the motherboard, they come with the case, so the motherboard will have the appropriate height to fit the I/O backplane of the mb through the included I/O panel hole in the case and fit correctly the I/O backplate, included with your mb, when installed in...
