Joe, you guys were too fast! My CPU is here today, but I'm still waiting for the rest of my PC.
My compliments to you, and monarch computers Joe. Every part that I'm on hold for are from zipzoomfly.com, which apparently doesn't ship for at least 2 days after you submit your order. >:-|
My understanding is the onboard Creative chip for MSI drastically reduces CPU overhead when compared to the Asus SLI or Gigabyte SLI boards. DFI uses the same chip as those other guys, so I imagine it wouldn't be any different.
At any rate, obviously we went for different specs, and it...
A few thoughts...
Games will always be written to be sequential. I'm sure they can find something to do out of synch, but that sounds messy to me. Threading generally needs to be synchronized in some way shape or form, usually due to shared data.
For example, all games have a program...
Multithreading within the code for a single process has nothing to do with it. So I'll assume when you say multithreading, you're speaking of the machines ability to send machine code for the same process to multiple CPUs to handle it, which by way, still has to happen sequentially. The cpus...
Joe,
Thanx for the upgrade on the shipping! That's very cool of you! Now if you can just find a way to make the retail 3200 Venice magically appear in the mail tomorrow, I would worship you and your website. :-)
Mueng, I emailed MSI using their website about that very same issue, although concerning the Neo4 SLI mobo. They told me that motherboard would post, but would probably detect the speed of the CPU incorrectly. They expect a new BIOS out soon for that mobo.
In short, just send them a...
Personally, I think you're underestimating the value of the onboard Sound Blaster. It drastically reduces the overhead your CPU will encounter with other onboard chips, and possibly the same with cards. I'm going with the SLI version of this board with that as a big reason. Should work out...
That's trange. I thought Venice was designed with this as one of the major enhancements? If so, it's not really up for debate, unless it doesn't work with specific configurations.
I also heard it allows you to work with 4 DIMMS at 400, rather than 333.
Here's my source...
Hey Joe,
You said yesterday that if there's not problem with today's shipment, you'd have more than enough 3200s on hand. Sounds like things went well?? If so, I plan on placing my order this weekend!
Can't wait...
Thanx!
Thanx for the advice. I did that, and MSI got back to me almost immediately. This is for the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI board. Here's their response...
"Yes, the current bios for the K8N Neo4 series can boot with the Venice Core processor but it require a bios update which we are still...
True, and I'm thinking I will, but it kinda takes the fun out of building my own machine. :-( Might as well get the memory while I'm there. They're $5 more than zipzoomfly, but it's just 5 bucks.
Hi MonarchJoe,
MonarchComputers says they'll flash the BIOS for the new Venice cores if I get the mobo + CPU combo from you. If I chose to do it myself, I'm guessing I would need a bootable setup to do so, ie - I would need a non venice core chip setup to run the PC?
Thanx, I should be...
Are the retail 3200s really delayed until the 20th? Monarch is the only one I've seen posting a ship date for these. It would damn near kill me to wait another month!
I guess what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
