We have access to the drive obviously, but we don't want to power it on if the heads are in contact with the platters or the bearings are unbalanced. I don't know if there's a way to run SMART or find the status of the drive before the spindle motor turns on.
A laptop belonging to a member of our group was involved in a car accident in which he passed away last week. It was very sobering news, but moving forward, the adviser wants to retrieve the research data off the hard drive, for which we have the family's permission.
So details:
- It was a...
I'm looking for a laptop that's around $500 with a 14/15" screen. I was considering the SL500 Thinkpads. Any other suggestions?
I'd like a Core 2 Duo processor. Integrated video should be ok. Decent battery life would be nice. Nothing needed special in any other category.
That's probably right, but what bothers me is that look like they're trying to take a monster crap bothers me. They use those expressions for every pointless news article.
I never go to MSN.com directly, but sometimes I check e-mail and when I log out, it goes there. I am almost always treated to one of these idiotic pictures...where and why do they get them?

Things are working well with the eSATA enclosure/card combo - and it's a lot faster than the USB setup I was using. The enclosure is plastic, but seems built fairly well and includes everything needed including USB and eSATA cables.
Here's the enclosure I bought:

and the card (PCI-E 1x):

Both said hot plug and play compatible, so I hope it works. It's my work computer so data safety is more important to me...
Thanks the for replies guys. I took the drive out of the Seagate enclosure and decided to order an eSATA/SATA card from Newegg and cable and connect the drive with an external eSATA enclosure. If this doesn't work (as a poster above mentioned), then I'll just use the enclosure to hold the drive...
I'm running Vista and use a Seagate FreeAgent external HD for backups at night. Unfortunatly, the drive (sometimes and seemingly randomly) disconnects itself when the computer goes to sleep. Sometimes I get a backup at night, sometimes I see an error message in the morning that the backup didn't...
They don't treat the carry on with much more respect. I've had them handle my DSLR with a heavy lens by grabbing one corner of it with a thumb and finger. Ditto for my laptop. They treat it like they're cleaning the bathroom and are picking up a turd they found. Just a few days ago when I was...
Good point, I'm realizing many things I left out of the OP. It will be just me, it's just a fun break from grad school before spring break (Boston/Stl) and after New Years (Dallas)
I'm planning on taking a random weekend or 3 day vacation to some city within 2-3 months. Where should I go? I'll be flying so some time will be saved. I'm already planning one to Boston and Dallas. I'd like to keep it in the eastern or central time zones. Florida cities will be done later, so...
It doesn't matter, the timeout was called well before the snap from the side angle and who knows how many players stopped before the play.
Also I'm not basing that on Brady's cocky remark after the game.
Yeah you're probably right. At least in the bball, there are 65 teams with a shot. Too bad my university didn't even receive a single point in any poll :P.
With the exception of Cars, not one has scored less than 90%. Pixar never lets down.
86% is actually good for an action movie, but that almost always goes down going up to release.
Finally a lot going on, but for all that happened this episode, I felt the vast majority of the current season was wasted getting to this point. They wasted many episodes, then in one Johnny Sacks gets and dies of cancer and in another there is a full blown NY vs. NJ war? Well at least I won't...
The point is they should have a system like I suggested in place to prevent the spam from being sent out. If you had a limit on how many contacts per new account in place and 1000 new accounts were made in one small IP block, then they can ban that IP block etc. That's just one of many things...
You can't use tubeless tires unless you have a tubeless rim. Considering it's an old bike, get tube tires. I have Panaracer Dart and Arrows on mine. I don't think spending a lot is going to help. Goto www.mtbr.com , find well reviewed cheap tires and get them.
The Trek 7000 isn't a mtn bike...
I listed two very different items on eBay ending over this weekend. One was a GPS and another was a laptop. In both cases, I probably averaged one e-mail from a spammer for each item every two-three hours the auctions were up. That's a lot of messages and they were all from different usernames...
The Perfect Circle cover of Imagine was pretty good imo. It was certainly better than Ono reciting it during the opening to the Turino Olympics.
This Green Day cover isn't bad either, again imo.
I've done 100-150km a day over a weekend on charity rides, but that over 4 months is insane. Good luck and let's see if we can't help exceed your goal of $12k!
The ads themselves have been pretty lame too. You'd think at 2 mil plus for ad time, someone would make a memorable ad. Don't need to be Ridley Scott and Apple, just something halfway decent.
