    Why do YOU Play?

aren't games part of real life, which also include social interaction? i guess i don't like the wording of this; seems like its trying to tell the world how lazy/worthless/unmotivated a gamer is in society.. something seems anti-gamer about it...

Which of these 2 are better quality if the price would be equal?

The only negative I've ever heard about modular is that due to an additional connection the power quality distributed could, possibly be lower. However, most modulars I've seen have the ATX and CPU power supplied directly, w/o a modular connection. Saying that, I have and prefer modular myself...

Doom 3 BFG Edition is coming this fall

How bout a Quake "remaster" instead... Yes, Please. Quake 3 w/ modern engine/graphics is exactly what I'm after. Teleporters, jump pads, rail guns, rocket launchers, oh my! =)

    Awesome Crysis 3 gameplay

looks amazing...but if its just another console shooter...could care less. all these consolized FPS games that play themselves have gotten boring. I don't want to sit and watch videos and scripts play the game for me. If thats what lazy console kiddies need, thats fine, keep it in the consoles...

E8400 OCing - BSEL Mod Question

I tried software OCing, using SetFSB, since ClockGen did not have my PLL in its list. SetFSB reads my PLL properly, but as soon as I set it anything over 355 (which is set via BIOS already), it locks the system. Looks like no go. I give up. :P I had a P45 chipset and that worked great up to...

    Multithreading in games, MMOs, hex-cores?

Honestly, my biggest reasoning for a multicore CPUs and MMOs was for boxing. Run each client on its own core, for example. ;) Or, even playing multiple games at once. Quite often I found myself LFG for hours, and playing other games in the background. Stuff like that. Yep, multi-tasking games. :D

E8400 OCing - BSEL Mod Question

I just attempted this and got no change. I checked and rechecked. And I took pics. I just used a couple layers of scotch tape, but I'm sure the pins are covered. I guess the G41 chipset is just really fail... Bummer. EDIT: OK, so it may be the Biostar G41-M7 that is really causing the fail...

Does overclocking cause instability in games?

EDIT: the previous poster has some very good suggestions as well. test one component at a time. the 3 components you'll be working with: FSB, CPU, and RAM. 1: Lower your CPU multi, set the lowest RAM speed you can...and up your FSB till you find instability..adding NB voltage as needed. 2...

    Pushing e8400 + Asus p5q to 4.1ghz

Some others and I think I have found 8.5 multiplier to produce better results.. I'm pretty sure this board/NB really needs more voltage to get much beyond 460 FSB. I just don't like going much beyond 1.3v w/o active cooling... I leave GTL Auto, PLL 1.52-1.54 (1.50 and Auto way over volts...

    Monitor Upgrade, 1920x1200 (24-27")

After some more research and reading reviews/comments etc.. I'm sorta of afraid of downgrading to the TN panel.. I found the: NEC MultiSync LCD2490WUXi-BK 24" model I know it doesn't look like a 'great' gaming monitor with the input lag, but it otherwise looks like a great choice... Can...

what is the difference between 9800 GX2's and GX280's?

hmm i'm also in this position atm. 98gx2 or 280 (or 285-depending on where prices fall)... all the reviews i've been able to read the last few days have given the 98x2 a few more fps. i'm looking for 1920x1200 resolutions in most games.

    Monitor Upgrade, 1920x1200 (24-27")

I've read through a bit of the LCD buyers guide post. First off, what I have now is a NEC 20.1" 16:10 20GXW2 (AS-IPS) Its worked great for me (other than the power button sorta stopped working). To me it looks great for gaming and movie watching and the bit of photo editing I do now n then...

Stability, Orthos vs Memtest86+ vs Memtest

Thank you. I did end up playing with these voltages and having better luck now. 8 hours with Orthos (blend). 2 hrs OCCT (mix). I have run P95 as well, successfully. I've actually read through the stickied guide here as well...and no mention on what may cause Orthos to simply "crash"...

Stability, Orthos vs Memtest86+ vs Memtest

So its not memory, its anything and everything? :P And its not "unstable" either with a 3 day uptime w/ random stress testing and game playing... Thus, I'm trying to find the "THE" instability. I understand having 1 out of 6 apps throw an error is "unstable" but.. was shooting more so...

CPU for New Gaming Rig Build?

Well, so far "STABLE". 1.288 v (loaded w/ Orthos) 3825 MHz (425 x 9). I'm not sure what BIOS voltage is, but it doesn't really matter...I go by loaded voltage anyway. I'm not sure how much further the FSB will go...I'll continue to nudge it forward a bit each day. :) Memory seems to be...

    xp 64 bit benefits??

I'm sorta in same boat (have another post about XP 64b and gaming), and wondering is the "ability to utilize 4gb" over XP 32bs ~3gb really worth it. I don't need anymore compat / driver issues...specially when you get into the "non mainstream" driver releases that are done / found in the...

At least someone got it. :D lol They sell it cheap per gig now...so how do you make more $? Sell more gigs! Yeah...and I went to 4GB...and am stuck w/ the 64bit debate now. haha In my case, if games are not goin to be faster with 4gb & 64bit over ~3gb & 32bit, its not worth it for me.

    WinXP 64bit & Gaming

My new rig will have 4GB of mem, and debating or wondering if its worth just dealing w/ the "3gb wall" with 32bit XP or to mess w/ 64bit (and its issues). This rig is used for gaming 90% of the time. My biggest concern from what I've read or heard in the past is, driver updates (or lack...

Asus P5Q vs P5Q-E vs Pro

Hmm I went with the Pro, I did later on notice the connector layout issues on the "normal" version. I also went with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and bolt-thru kit. I've read others say it can be tight on a P5Q board...but I'm comfy with modding a few pieces of aluminum fins to fit if need be...

I'm tryin to figure out if the "-E" is worth it for the cooling setup alone? 130 vs 160 on Newegg. I won't be running Xfire, nor plan on it anytime soon, so not a huge concern. Mainly wondering if the heatpipe configuration on the -E is far superior in OCing ability? Also I guess...
