    Thinking about 8800gts need recommendations

I currently have a e6600 system built with an x1900xt. Recently the voltage reg has been over heating (i think). It artifacts in simple games like Empire Earth, so rather than messing with it I'm thinking up stepping up to a dx10 card. I'm looking at the evga 8800gts 320mb and evga 8800gts...

    e6600 overheating

Well just recently my stock speed e6600 and stock HSF have been overheating. I ran TAT at 100% on both chips and got a system alarm after the chip hit 70C. Thinking the HSF came unseated I removed the old thermal paste and put on new. Still the same thing. Does anyone know what the stock fan...

File manager software for the web

I'm looking for a php file manager that allows multiple users and a nice interface, kind of like PHPfilenavigator (http://pfn.sourceforge.net/) but I want it to encrypt the files once they are uploaded, not store them unencrypted. If a user requests it then it is decrypted and sent, kind of...

    x1900 overheating

I used the ATI catalyst drivers from ATIs page. I just downloaded and installed the Asus Catalyst drivers and I am going to see if it gives me different results. Otherwise I may have to try and RMA. I know the GPU can get pretty hot and be ok, I was just more curious about the voltage...

    x1900 overheating

actually now that I think about it, I don't think the card is damaged. It doesn't really artifact until the vreg gets to be around 79-80ish C then some of the shadows get messed up and in fear sometimes the floor tiling stretches more. When the card is warm/idling there are no issues.

    x1900 overheating

Actually it says for Asus, to RMA through your supplier, so I guess I'd have to RMA through newegg.

    x1900 overheating

I'll call them, but having owned the computer for almost 7-8 months I doubt they will RMA it. I'm gonna send a letter to their support and see what they say.

    x1900 overheating

All dust (barely any) was removed. No need for the side of the case to be removed there is holes all over it for air intake. I can hear the fan roaring at full speed the entire time.

    x1900 overheating

Just ran 'scan for artifacts' in ati tool, it's been running for about 7 minutes, voltage reg temp: 83c gpu: 74c no artifacts

    x1900 overheating

I have had it for about 6 months and at first it was fine. Fan turned on when it needed to no artifacts etc. Then it started to overheat from the fan not kicking on when it should, so I got ATItool and told the fan to go on 100% when it detected 3d.. It was fine for a while now, when I play a...

    ati x1900xt freezing up

Looks to be because of temperature, I forced the fan to 100% and it stayed around 75C and it didn't crash. It seems like the onboard logic isn't cranking the fan up enough and it's overheating?

    ati x1900xt freezing up

So lately I've been playing 2142 and graw and about 5 minutes into a game the card will either freeze up and I'll need to restart, or I catalyst comes up telling me the vpu has become unresponsive so it restarts the graphics subsystem. I've had my rig for about 8 months and I just started...

    AHCI question

DOH! i don't have a floppy disk drive so I can't load the AHCI drivers as windows setup doesn't support pulling the drivers from a cdrom :( Guess I'll have to go buy one. So I guess is this trouble worth the performance gain, and how much will it affect my performance?

    AHCI question

I just noticed in my bios, that AHCI mode is not disabled for my SATAII drives. I read that this should be specified during windows setup, but is that the only way, or can I change it now and be ok? I'm guessing no, but it's worth a shot, and also is it worth the performance increase to enable...

Top Ten Advancements in Computers and Technology?

Guys, the internets aren't that significant of an advancement... I mean, it's just a series of tubes, and we already have plenty of those! I would say a future advancement would be converting the series of tubes into a highway of big trucks, because according to Ted Stevens we can fill the...

Ready made computers vs custom build???

IMO it may not always be cheaper to build your own pc. If you are building a regular pc that isn't very high end, dell and other manufacturers will most likely be cheaper. They use specialized parts and can get deals on them that we can't. Now I think that if you know what you are doing the...

    How does this system look?

That is for the xms 2x1gig c4 revision (4-4-4-12 timings) you can get the regular version (5-5-5-12) for $240 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590 as for the video card...hmm it looks like the sapphire card I was looking at is no longer carried\out of...

    How does this system look?

Hmm things that jump out at me: mobo: ga965G-ds3 are you sure you want the G? G has onboard video and since you are getting a graphics card this isn't really necessary. Just get the ga965P-ds3 and save yourself $20 and put that toward the video card or a step up to the e6400. I would also...

    Core 2 Duo boards

I really like my Gigabyte ga965-ds3 It was around $120 and is recognized as being a very good overclocker. It offers solid performance without what I feel are unnecessary frills the $150+ boards offer. I think it is easily one of the best bang/buck boards for those reasons.

    Critique my Build ($1500)

I load a fear map about 5 seconds faster than him, and it takes me about 20 seconds i'm guessing to load a fear map. Research the seagate 7200.10 and look how it compares to the wd, that should make the decision for you. I'll try to find the link I saw that compared them, in some tests the...

First time builder ...comments and suggestions welcome!

Because with the e6600 you can O\C to over 3 ghz relatively easily. I was relatively stingy when it came to spending, and I found (with the help of anandtech board members) that the e6600 is the best bang for the buck. I didn't get a sound card because I figured the onboard sound is good...

    Critique my Build ($1500)

Ditch the WD for a seagate perp. write, I got one on my last build and it loads faster than my friends wd. If you want a good mid-range board get the gigabyte ga965-ds3 overclocks well, and uses ddr2 800 ram. I would also recommend a 512 card, I was kinda will I really use it at first, and let...

    C2D system

Either save your money, or if you are purchase happy just buy the machine piece by piece. I built one rig that way, it was hard to see the parts there and not be able to build anything but it served as good motivation. I started out with the parts that were least likely to drop in price in the...

    Good fps multiplayer games

Looking for a new fun game to play on the new rig. I've been messing with BF2 and Ghost Recond and I like both a lot. I know BF2 has quite a few servers and is a pretty active multiplayer game, but how is ghost recon, are there a lot of multiplayer servers? I think I like the realism...

    Email privacy concerns

I use PGP to encrypt e-mails and files if I feel they are worth encrypting The software from PGP.com is very easy to use and configure and configures right with your e-mail client, and if you use webmail it will encrypt that as well. PGP.com's software is a 30 day trial, but I think after...

building my rig, having a few problems

Alright, the plan is I'm ordering another 2 gigs from newegg, then once I receive the new 2 gigs of ram, I will rma the old ram as the one strip obviously isn't working. That way I can run on the 1 gig that is still working right now and don't have downtime for another 2-3 days.
