    Physics Card ?

NVIDIA will build this into their GPUs along with hardware AI acceleration. PhysX add-in cards might be interesting at first, but I expect NVIDIA to jump in with their own PPU as part of their GPU. Dr. Kirk talked about this a while ago, so don't think NVIDIA will be left out. Plus, if the...

Whats the best video card for running UT2004

At 720P it will. What is that anyway, like 1280x720 or 1152x720? Anyone run their PCs at that res? Point is I don't think they've shown the game playing at what many would consider significant resolutions yet. If you want decent frames at decent resolutions, I would wait. I would wait at...

The Inquirer reports clocks for R520XT

Actually, ATI fanbois/grlz think that NVIDIA is the "teh 1337 h4x0rz!! of graphics" due to their ()/>7i/\/\iZ47i0/\/s (optimizations).

The Inquirer reports clocks for R520XT

SM2.0 vs. SM3.0 hardware. SM3.0 adds a lot of complexity. Someone had a quote from ATI describing how many transistors the move from SM2.0 to SM3.0 would take. It was a significant change. Not only that, ATI is moving from 24bit to FP32bit precision if I recall correctly. Other than that, I...

    Best 7800gt Manufacturer

hrm. Am I missing something? If you are going to put a vf700 on it, why does it matter how quiet they are stock??? My Vote goes to BFG. 650Mhz (1300mhz effective) GDDR3 stock might mean that they verified their memory for higher speeds and their PCB. GameDrive that they bundle with...

    R520 has 16pipelines

Awesome. We can all stop wondering now. My Definition of "Extreme Pipe" would either be a pipe that does more than another pipe - more execution units in the pipe - or a pipe that runs at a higher clock speed because it has more stages and does less per clock. I could see either of those...

Ya, I wasn't sure which "fill rate" they were talking about. More than not people refer to ROP fill rate, so I assumed that. I stand corrected if it wasn't in referrence to the ROPs. I agree with the bolded statements.

    ATI X850XT-PE has a peak Vertex Rate of 810 MTriangles/s @540Mhz. 810/6 = 135 MTris/s for each Vertex Engine in the X850XT-PE @540 Mhz. 0.25 Tris/clock per Vertex Engine NVIDIA 7800GTX has a peak Vertex Rate of 920 MTriangles/s @460Mhz and 860 MTris/s @430Mhz. 920/8 = 115 MTris/s for...

    R520 has 16pipelines

Heh. ATI X850XT-PE has a better fill rate now. The 7800GTX has 16 ROPs. So, 24x whatever for fill rate doesn't work. 16x(clock speed) does work though. The 7800GTX has a peak fill rate of 6880 Mp/s @430Mhz and 7360 Mp/s @460Mhz. The ATI X850XT-PE has a peak fill rate of 8640 Mp/s...

    What is AMD's next move?

Exactly. If you think AMD has been "sitting on their hands" all this time, you're wrong. It will be very interesting. AMD stated they would not be going wider than their current design, which has actually been around since before K8 (3 wide), while Intel has gone 4 wide. M2 will be nice...

Removing old thermal paste on a gpu

Mine's much lower. 46 - 48C idle vs. 58 - 63C idle, 70C vs. 83 - 85C load. If you follow the directions on Arctic Silver's site you can't go wrong. I used their cleaning products, which work extremely well, as well as their Ceramique on my Graphics chip and on both my Opterons.

Are CRTs still the king for gaming?

I can't say that my LCD is better or the best for gaming. I am happy with my Dell 2405FPW (1920x1200 native) for gaming though. Even at lower than native it looks good. I played Half life at 1680x1050 and it still looked good. FEAR at 1280x1024 (I think it was) still looks good. In...

If THIS is the best HDR can do...

NVIDIA picked a game that didn't show it off too well, but maybe it's the only one they could get to put up on their page. I prefer the HDR image, but it's not great HDR. It almost looks like an after though rather than an engine built from the ground up with HDR in mind. ProjectOffset or...

    Is ATI clutching at straws?

This is really quite funny. These types of threads always turn into an ATI vs. NVIDIA type deal. Here's what the thread is about: Which I think is a valid observation. At Computex ATI had a behind closed doors showing of R520 playing a few selected games from what I understand. At...
