    New build help...

What error message are you getting with the BSOD? I had a similar problem on a recent system that finally turned out to be due to a faulty IDE cable running to the hard drive. The specific error message will provide more information as to what the problem might be. Moe PS - at what point...

What do with old P3 667MHz system?

Unless you can scrounge some additional RAM from other old systems or you feel like coughing up some dough, you would probably be best served running Linux on that box. However, for about 30 bucks and some change you could slap 256MB of PC133 RAM in there and it should run XP reasonably well...

Fixed - Windows install problem, hardware related

OK. After trying all of the above suggestions except a stick of PC2700 RAM (none was available :(), I began systematically replacing each piece of hardware until eventually I got the system to work. The only change was in trying an old 4gig hard drive. The 80 gig that was originally in the...

Fixed - Windows install problem, hardware related

The only information on the hard drive now is the setup files. When the computer boots, it is trying to continue setup of WinXP Pro, so I have no option of a minimal boot or changing any drivers for XP. Any other ideas?

Well, if this does fix the problem with the unknown hard error, I still won't be able to install WinXP because I need the CD for that.

Apple is slapping PC users around with their 30" LCD!

Nice display, but you would think that for $3k apple would throw in the capability for height adjustment. Like I would want to destroy such a thing of beauty with a monitor riser lol. Give it a few more months and there will be other, more healthy alternatives for PC users I bet - DM

Can you suggest a low-end PC (CPU only) that will be used (95%) for web surfing?

I quickly conifgured a base Dell model for $309 here However, you could save alot of money by building the system yourself (of course this may not be an option for everybody) -DM

    Old RAM Question

I was actually wanting to try and run the PC100 RAM at PC133 speeds. I know that much of the newer DDR modules are capable of speeds beyond that of what they are labeled - I just don't have much experience with older RAM in this regard. I suppose if this won't work that I may still be better...

    Old RAM Question

As the summary implies, I am interested in putting additional RAM in an old P3 that currently has 128MB of PC133. I have two additional sticks of 128MB PC100, just curious if anyone has experience with using PC100 labeled RAM in a PC133 environment - DM

Accursed computer troubles - Is this mobo dead?

I read the article - user decribes a problem different from mine and also has a different bios. I have tried a different PSU with no change. The caps on the board appear to be okay. I guess my question is: is there any other component/setting other than a bad mobo that could cause this...

Accursed computer troubles - Is this mobo dead?

Computer began locking up randomly recently, now will not even post. I get appropriate errors with no ram and/or no video card, but the system will not post with minimal hard ware (RAM, CPU, video card). Fancy schmancy post led shows "26" after two attempts then sticks. No video output. All...

How long do you keep your desktop on??

I agree with the info in Tostada's post. Your computer should not be using that much electricity. Probably the majority goes into running the monitor anyway, so just set your monitor to power down when the system is idle. I leave my machine on just about all the time.

Help with a budget OC system

Thinking about an upgrade, currently running an AthlonXP 1.2 with 512 PC2700 and a GeForce 3. Considering spending about 600 US on a system. This is the best I can come up with so far from Newegg: Abit nf-7 = 66 mobile athlon 2400 35 watt (reasonable OC, nothing crazy) = 87 geil value series...

lots of apple haters. where're the sun haters?

Seems like the thread has drifted away from concerns about Sun and others for obvious reasons and turned into a why do ppl hate apple thread. If you like apple, why do you care if x86 users dont like it? In addition, I have found that most apple users hate x86 users. Which came first, x86...

    I support discriminating against homosexualsex

A tough topic on which to comment. Your voting choices allude to the "slippery slope" that one begins to slide down when something traditional, such as marriage, is challenged by personal freedoms. Where do you draw the line? It's hard to say. Is it the job of the government to regulate...

I looked into buying a leather set by Viewpoint about a year ago (chair, ottoman, loveseat, sofa). Ultimately, I went with another brand because I wanted attached cushions and a less "worn" look. However, I was impressed with the overall quality of the Viewpoint products. I was shopping at a...

The epox 8k5a3+ DOES support a barton 2600+ mobile cpu (with wire mod for the multiplier)

That's a good question. I know it has support for older t-bred processors with the same bus speed (266 Mhz), but I don't think that necessarily means a mobile 2600 (which has the same bus speed) would work. Anyone else? Maybe you should email Epox (good luck).
