    programming and multi-core cpu's

Dynamic execution in Pentium family had already achieved instruction parallelism since 1995. Many applications never take advantage of that bcos of possible bugs or bcos the programmer didn't know. Actually, the hurdle to processor parallelism is simply programming language. Multithreading...

Why is Assymetric Multi-tasking difficult? Why do SLI cards, CPUs etc. have to be identical to run dual/multi modes?

It's all about dependency. Imagine having a fast husband waiting on slow wife and vice versa; it's ugly. For CPU, they must run from the same clock since they must be synchonized to communicate easier and efficiently. In a PC, you had northbridge, south bridge, CPU and RAM running at the...

will extra 512K cache improve gaming performance?

512Kb = 32768 cache lines (16b in a cache line) Most of processing time are spend in loops and same lines of code, the code will need to jump to and get data from 32K locations to fully utilize 512Kb L2 cache. Video task process megabytes of data per second and reuse data often. So a large...

Any way to have two mouse pointers for one system.

If you can use your hands and legs to control the 4 mice, I'm sure Microsoft will make Windows do it. Technically, Windows doesn't support contexts (ie MouseId) for mouse so you can't do that.

    Non-threadsafe code in threaded programs?

Actually, you can create a gate that allows 4 requests to be process at a time. During these 4 requests, they are processed sequentially and only locks between these 4 requests. I believe this will increase the throughput.

    Non-threadsafe code in threaded programs?

    >> ...375 global variables shared between them This is a bad design. Does the processing using these 375 variables takes a long time? My suggestion is do whatever is necessay with these variables and release them. [lock] -> [preprocess] ->[unlock] ->[postprocess] You might investigate...

Why is Windows Explorer such a pig

Although the explorer might use up 20Mb+ of RAM, subsequent applications that requires services of Explorer takes up much less memory. However, it will still shows the total memory it owns.
