Thanks for that suggestioin. It's a file server. That 'mounted drive' thing seems interesting. I will look into it.
The main problem is that there is less than 1 gb. of free space left on the C: drive and I keep getting low storage space warnings. Then I run disk cleanup and they go away...
Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like that program is aimed at Linux users. Are you sure it will work with Win Server 2003?
Also, I should mention, I would not mind PAYING for a program that would do this--especially if it has a simple, GUI interface. Any suggestions?

I have a question that I would REALLY appreciate an answer to from an expert. Somehow I think that the answer to this question should be easy, but no I have not been able to get a clear answer yet.
I have Windows Server 2003 installed on the office server. It is setup in a RAID 5...
I have a Dell laptop (model E1705) that came with a 'dual' intel centrino processor. I ordered it with Win XP Home (to save money), but I am now wondering if that OS is not able to fully utilize both processors since it's the Home version.
In other words, does Win XP home utilize the full...
I don't know why, but all of a sudden whenever I try to open the 'Printers & Faxes' window (from the start menu), there is a crash in explorer. If I don't go to this window, everything appears to work fine--even printing. I noticed the problem after I needed to change the 'default' printer...
Quick question for the server gurus. I am about to setup a server with Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition and I have a question about the network setup. It will be connected to a DSL modem. The server has 2 ethernet connectors and I have two ways of setting it up:
Option 1: Connect...
Quick question:
Why can't I just get the server version and then connect with the computers that I already have--I mean, they already have XP installed in them. Why do I have to buy licenses for computers that already have a legitimate OS installed in them??
Can't a computer with windows...
Oh boy...this is getting more and more complicated....
You are right in suggesting the only thing I really need is just a couple of extra connections. As far as Linux goes, I am sure it is a very good OS, but I have ZERO experience with it. I do have above-average experience with...
Thanks for all the replies....so, basically, to summarize, I just purchase and install this OS in the 'main' computer and now more than 10 will be able to connect simultaneously??
Amazon Software Link
Why does the label of the software say '5-client'?? I thought you could connect up to...
Thanks for the input. Does the OS environment of Win 2003 Server act just like windows XP. Like I said, the computer that has the schedule also has other applications--can I install and run applications under Win 2003 Server just like in XP or is it a whole different type of OS environment...
Hi,
There is a computer in the office that has a program that others can simultaneously run--it's a sheduling program. All the other computers have the location of the program mapped as a 'network drive' and a shortcut from their desktop runs the program. This has not been a problem until...
Thanks for the advice...I may have to endup going this way. The point of my question was that if I knew the email will only be going to connected computers in the same office, why bother going through the internet?
I am also afraid of some people getting spam-type email and then clicking on...
I have a question that I think people here can answer faster than I can. In fact, I have spent over 1 hour reading about MS Exchange server and a program called Workgroup Mail server, but they are not really what I want. In fact, the problem is I am not sure of what I need.
Here is the...
Quick question...I have searched in google and the MS knowledge base and I can't find the answer. I seem to remember that in an old version of Word, I had added a little 'tool' that would force repagination--this was handy way back when I was in college and was writing long papers. That way, if...
Ok..I agree...I just got a double layer DVD+-RW. However, I don't know a THING about DVD burning.
What's a good site to go to that has answers to DVD-burning related issues...from the basics to advanced stuff??

Thanks for the advice....I looked around and used a program called GetDataBack for NTFS....THANK GOD it works !!! It's the best DARN $79 I have EVER paid !!!
Here is the stupid story. Recognizing the need for backups, I bought a small laptop hard drive and put it in a USB 2.0 enclosure to...
The topic says it all...I was trying to format the main C: drive, and I had attached an external USB 2.0 drive....well, like an idiot, I deleted the partitions on the external drive !!! I have since disconnected it. All of my critical data is on that drive. Is there any way to access the files...
Hi,
Thanks for trying to help, but I wish it were that easy...When I right click on the folder and pick "properties" there is a sharing and security tab, but it doesn't give me any way of adding users or checking their security status.
BJ
I opened the windows management infrastructure, right clicked on WMI control and went to the security tab...but I can't figure out a way to set special permissions for a folder....am I going in the right direction??
Thanks,
BJ
Probably a simple question for someone who knows. I have looked through all the help screens in win xp (prof.) and in an XP book, but can't find this answer. Here is the problem.
I have a small office with about 6 computers. People need to have access to files on other computers, so I basically...
Thanks for the tip. I really did spend a LOT of time looking through all the options in the administrative tools control panel, but could not find this one.

I just had to reinstall windows XP on alaptop, and I am annoyed that even though I am listed as the only user, the computer always asks me to pick the user when it restarts. My other computer (desktop) does not do this--ie. when you restart it, it goes straight to the desktop.
Is there any way...
Quick question...I am using windows XP without any significant poblems on a new laptop I just got. However, I didn't pay attention to the keyboard layout before buying it, but it has a stupid design flaw. The 'backspace' key is very small (just the size of a standard letter key) instead of being...
I got into the commmand console, but I can't find a way to run the 'restore' program from here. Is there any way to do a system restore to a previous day using the command line interface??
BJ
That's exactly the problem. I don't have mouse or keyboard control from windows--even after trying a 'safe mode' restart. Is there any way to access a 'commmand-line' interface to do a restore. Again..this is win XP, so no DOS.
BJ
I have a big, big problem and would be very, very grateful to anyone who can help. I have a P3 system with Win Xp Prof. installed. Everything was fine in my system until I installed the latest beta version of the nvidia drivers (I think it was 23.10). In any case, when I restarted the computer...
I don't know why but the automatic logon feature of Tweak UI (v1.33) doesn't work for me. I am using Win ME...is there another way to set the client for MS networks to automatically log on to the network at startup?
Thanks,
BJ
I have win 2k installed on a system and it NEVER access the hard drive while idle. However, I have another computer with Win ME and the hard drive is almost ALWAYS spinning (I can hear)--it looks like it is doing something in the background, but I can't figure out what?
I have the system...
For anyone with a laptop and with Win2k on it, can you show me some examples of some ways you use the 'briefcase' folder that's present on the desktop. I know it can be used to synchronize files, but I can't think of a routine, practical way to use it in....

I just upgraded to Win 2k SP2 and installed Myst Masterpiece edition. The Ntcompatible site says that it should run in Win2k if I enable the 'win 95 compatibility layer'...well, I have done this and yet it doesn't work. It gives and error saying 'Myst32 requires windows 95. You are running...
The one major problem with this approach is that it alphabetizes the bookmarks--if you had moved them around, now you have to move them again all over....very annoying. Unless there is something I am not doing right in reimporting them?
