    New Apple Keyboard in Windows

Hey has anybody tried hooking up one of those new Apple keyboards (the wired USB one) to Windows Vista? If so how usuable is it? Are there homemade drivers that let you use all the keys? I kind of want a metal keyboard...

Dell Inspiron 1405 and Vista Aero

I am thinking about getting a Dell 1405 for a family member and I want to make sure that it will run Vista Aero (glass) reasonably well. I found this on Dell's website: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/glob...tions/en/vista_pcs?c=us&cs=&l=en&s=gen I was wondering - has anybody tried...

XP Pro Crashing - Can't identify why

I ran into something like this recently. I am not sure if it is the same, but see if this applies to you. My computer was freezing sporadically but only when I was using it (I leave it on all the time). It turns out I was accidentally pulling one my two monitor cables with my feet and it was...

The Real Story on Vista Delay

OK so according to Paul Thurrot Vista was not actually delayed. What happened was it's getting released in October and that is too late for the *lazy* hardware manufacturers to ensure a "great out of box experience", which Microsoft wants them to be able to do. Hence the consumer delay...

    PS3 Hack?

I think it's going to boot off the hard drive, which means updates would have to go through the software stack. This means once it's been compromised, hackers could even conceivably block any updates they didn't want...

    PS3 Hack?

I was just thinking - if the PS3 ends up running Linux like Kutaragi keeps saying it will, then does that mean it will be vulnerable to various software mods? I'm not incredibly knowledgeable with Linux but it seems that the standard desktop and server versions are not really designed for...

Toshiba tablet PC vs Dell 710m?

I have an HP tc1100 which is an ultra-compact convetible Tablet PC. I take it to class every day. I have a beefy desktop so at this point I mostly use the tc1100 for taking notes in class and cruising the net - I do most of my high performance stuff on my desktop. I think the important...

    360 Hard Drive Upgrade Idea

Hey Guys - see what you think about this idea. OK so you can take apart the 360's hard drive and inside is a regular notebook hard drive (this we know): http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2610&p=5 So why not do the following: take apart your hard drive, buy a 100 GB drive...

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Review sites say that, but it's not really as though $399 is that expensive. Consider that an iPod cost $299, at least last time I checked, it's hardly overpriced. Plus Perfect Dark and PGR3 look quite good.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I have to play it NOW because the Microsoft marketing machine has turned me into an Xbox 360 buying zombie.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I pre-ordered an Xbox 360 in early July and I didn't make the first shipment at the EB Games in downtown Providence. Now I have to wait while lots of *assholes* are sitting around playing their 360s. The injustice. It reminds me of when Homer Simpson gets a gun but there is a 3-day waiting...

    Linux Server Distro Question

Hi, I'm pretty much a Windows-only developer. I want to set up a Linux box just for fun, though. The box would ideally just be for serving (PHP), and so what I really want is Red Hat Enterprise Linux or SUSE Enterprise Server 9. The problem is these products AREN'T free. What the heck is...

    Google in trouble?

What planet are you from? Apple is NEVER going to have 20% marketshare. Think about it for a minute. Dell has 18% marketshare. Maybe you are a mac user, and for that I am sorry, bot you don't have to be a zealot. The fact of the matter is that if Microsoft was coming to an end, it would...

    Google in trouble?

Hey Einstein Element, You should really try the new MSN Search. Try searching for the following phrases (without quote marks): "How many calories are in spinach?" "Who shot JFK?" "What is the population of France?" "x^2+3=5" I think you'll find that they have actually caught up much...

    Google in trouble?

My point was that Microsoft is no longer pre-occupied with these other products. I never said Xbox 360 competes with Google - obviously that would be ridiculous.

Xbox 360s available 3.5 days early

This could be phrased in a deliberately ambiguous way... If it's real though, I'm really pissed. I pre-ordered an Xbox 360 back in July and it turns out I won't get one on launch day.

    Google in trouble?

It seems to me that now that Microsoft has gotten its ducks in a row - Vista development is back on track, SQL Server/Visual studio are released, Xbox 360 is pretty much out of the gate - that they are now diverting attention towards Google. Check out page 2 of this article...

    Windows OneCare: worse than nothing?

It seems like it is more like all of the Windows maintanence utilities under one roof - spyware, viruses (new), backups, tune-ups (new), disk defrag, etc.

    Windows OneCare: worse than nothing?

Give me a break. PinkPalace's icon is an apple and is trashing what he calls a "rabid M$ fan," when he clearly is just a rabid mac fan. Go home!

    Windows OneCare Live Preview

I currently use Norton AntiVirus but this looks promising: http://www.bentuser.com/article.aspx?ID=312 NAV gets the job done but it's a bit clunky and in need of an update.

    IE7 Beta v. FireFox Beta

Opera suffers from a lot of technical problems though. It doesn't seem to be able to handle complex javascript well if at all, and it tends to render pages designed for IE incorrectly. Also the built-in banner is too irritating for words.

    IE7 Beta v. FireFox Beta

I think it's important to note that IE is still the only browser that is guaranteed to render a page correctly, since so many pages are made for/only tested in IE.

Here's a foaming-at-the-mouth comparison between the FireFox Beta and IE7 Beta: http://www.bentuser.com/article.aspx?ID=311 At least, as someone who appreciates Microsoft, it comes across to me as foaming-at-the-mouth. What do you guys think about IE7 v FireFox?

Axim x50v and Media Center PC

Axim x50v and Media Center PC

Hi Guys, I know that Media Center 2005 can automatically transcode your TV shows and other videos for a Portable Media Center (PMC), like the Creative Zen PMC. I was wondering if this also works with a Pocket PC 2003 SE/WMP 10 Mobile Device? If so, have you actually tried it? How well deos...

    Building an HTPC

I have a friend who got an All in Wonder card and had a lot of trouble with it. In order for the card to work, he had to buy special software encoder drivers from ATI. As far as OSes go, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 ($149 from Zip Zoom Fly with remote control included) seems to be...

    Samsung iPod Killer?

Apple may have the brand name, but if somebody walks into a BestBuy and notices that this Samsung has photo capabilities at about half the price of the iPod Photo, they may start to pay attention regardless of TV ads. Also, it really does seem like Samsung has gotten serious about their mp3...

    Samsung iPod Killer?

Haha, good point. That being said, what about the machine itself? I can't seem to find any reviews on it (it seems to be new). I would like to know if it's any good, as I'm definitely in the market for an mp3 player.
