Broken chipset fan on Asus A8N-SLI mobo

I've used my computer without chipset cooling the entire night yesterday. Not one crash or sign of instability. This has been going on forever. I'll do some testing for you and check back with the results. I've never even taken the motherboard out, so if I'm gonna replace it I'm probably...

Broken chipset fan on Asus A8N-SLI mobo

I think I read on these forums once how bad the Asus A8N-SLI chipset fan is. It seems to be completely dead now. It's the one with the Asus logo, right next to the PCI-e slot, so I assume it's the chipset fan. Sometimes it will try to rotate and make one hell of a racket, but eventually it gives...

    Extreme fan noise

Like I said, I'm not much of a PC builder. How big is the chance that I ruin the motherboard when I start screwing things off and on it? ;) I feel like it's not quite the same as placing extra RAM, removing a HD or inserting a PCI card...

    Extreme fan noise

Hmmm, I could replace it with something quieter, I suppose. But the thing is, and I'm not sure if that's normal, sometimes it runs pretty quiet. Then it seems like it's starting to grind against some surface and the noise can become terrible. A moment later it'll be quiet again. That leads me to...

    Extreme fan noise

Hi, I'm sure problems like this have been posted about before, but I'm not really a PC builder myself. However, I'd like to hear from people who have experience with this sort of thing. I have an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard and it has extreme fan noise from time to time. The thing is, this...

Problems: SATA drive detection + mouse dying

The system's been alive for maybe a month. It's brand new and I didn't build it myself, but had it professionally done. I hope I can trust that they knew what they were doing, since I payed them money and all.

Problems: SATA drive detection + mouse dying

Nobody's got an idea, then? :( Are there other people with SATA drives experiencing random problems?

Problems: SATA drive detection + mouse dying

Sorry, did I leave that part out? ;) It's a pretty good one as far as I'm concerned: - Tagan TG480-U01 480 Watt Can't see a problem there, but who knows?

Problems: SATA drive detection + mouse dying

First, let me give you my specs: AMD Athon 64 3500+ POV GeForce 6800GT Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB SATA Asus nForce4 board Running Windows XP SP1 (still wary of SP2) Now, I have two occasional problems I'd very much appreciate comments for. The harddisk problem: - It happens...

    About my new system

Actually, no. RAID 0 does utilize all of the hard drives' capicity, but it spread it over them equally to improve performance.

    About my new system

Hmm, the 160GB DM10 is only 4 euros less than the 200GB... so that would not be worth going down for. Maybe 2x36MB RAID0 Raptors => 72GB would be okay, but still I'm too paranoid to go RAID0, I think. ;) And too lazy to make daily DVD backups to protect myself. :)

    About my new system

For real? I though dual-channel made much more of a difference. Makes me think about going with the 1 stick of 1GB. Thanks for that. Also, I'm playing with the idea of going with Raptors, possibly two with RAID0. Wonder how stable that will be, though.

    About my new system

Thanks for your replies. stevty2889, the 250GB ones are a big step up in terms of price, so I guess it's not worth it. What I am still undecided over is whether to add in a 36MB Raptor drive... it's an additional 100 euros, but it may be worth it to throw the OS/apps/games on there. But...

    About my new system

Hiya. Hopefully I can get some quick answers before I go buy this system this afternoon. :) My current choice is: Tagan TG480-U01 480W power supply Asis A8N-SLi nForce4 AMD Athon 64 3500+ 1GB DDR400 PC3200 RAM van Twinmos (dual-channel setup) Maxtror DiamondMax 10 SATA 200GB Aopen...

    Okay, thanks. Good info.

IDE vs. SCSI vs. SATA vs. ?!!?!

My drive has made VERY LOUD SCREECHING noises when copying large files around. I has had its fair share of bad sectors. But it has NEVER died. :) Anyway, somebody told me about problems with SATA when many users are writing to a disk simultaniously... also with video manipulation. Something...

IDE vs. SCSI vs. SATA vs. ?!!?!

Amazingly, I have never had a drive die on me EVER, but I will consider RAID... HD's aren't that expensive anymore. Integrated SATA sounds nice, but I was a bit concerned about throwing in too many new techs, PCI-e, SATA, etc. How stable and mature is that stuff, anyway? Most new techs take a...

IDE vs. SCSI vs. SATA vs. ?!!?!

One thing that I am not vey clear on is what interface is currently best for what... performance, your wallet, support, stability, etc. My focus is primariry on a gaming rig. IDE has come a long way, I hear, but SCSI will beat it in performance and won't bog down your CPU. SATA is new, but...

    Upgrade advise/guide

Thanks, guys. That's the usefull stuff I was looking for. When I bought this computer, I was wondering what games would look like when this hardware would be outdated. :P Now I wonder the same about current hardware. Thing is, where some people will complain about unplayable framerates under...

    Upgrade advise/guide

Yeah, I guess I was pretty broad in my question. Thanks for the warm welcome, though. I'm sure I will get more specific questions as the time that I will actually go through with this draws nearer. World of Warcraft will be released soon in Europe. ;) (Although I read that it'll at least run on...

    Upgrade advise/guide

I'm sure every once in a while a n00b comes to this places and wonders what the best latest hardware is, when to buy what and what the best price/performance ratio is. Bear with me here; I have too many other things to worry about in my life to constantly keep up with the latest technological...
