    Wifi range?

I presently have an access point that is 802.11b/g compatible. It's a DLink DWL-2100AP, about 20 months old. The range, well, sucks, it always has. Devices in the same room get a decent signal but any other room get a weak signal or no signal at all, regardless of where I position the AP...

    Windows playback device

Is there a quick way to switch the selected Windows playback device? Also, is there a way to stop a new device from grabbing the selected spot? I have a bluetooth headset (I've tried 4 different headsets, I presently have a Bluetrek G2) that I use with Windows for a softphone (a VoIP telephone...

    Speakers for Christmas

I think Santa might be getting me some speakers for Christmas, so I'm looking for recommendations to send to him. I currently have Videologic Sirocco Crossfire's (4.1), which are slightly faulty. I've been out of the speaker buying loop for a couple of years now so I don't know what to look at...

Dead Pixels on modern LCD Monitors

Do retailers ever have an improved warrenty? I'm planning to get a Samsung 710T or a BenQ in the near future (assuming nothing better appears in the next few weeks) and I'd be very disappointed if it came with any dead pixels. However, there are no local shops where I can buy from and insist on...

Dead Pixels on modern LCD Monitors

How common are dead (or stuck) pixels on LCD screens? This is what's putting me off getting an LCD display. Some times I see comments like "yeah, it came with 2 stuck" like that's normal while other times I hear people who frequently use LCD screens who've never seen a dead pixel, which leaves...

    When buying a notebook?

I'm in the market for a good, high end laptop for a decent price 2nd hand, but I've realised I know very little about laptops. What should I look for and what should I avoid? I would not be using it as my primary machine so I doubt Doom3 will be on the menu, but I would like decent 3D...

    System partition relabelled!

After I uninstalled some troublesome software (Creative's Mediasource) and rebooted as the uninstaller requested, my system failed to boot. I used my Win2k's cd to boot into repair mode, where it told me that my Windows installation in at d:\winnt! Somehow, what was C: is now D: and D: is now...

    Logitech diNovo, Anyone got one?

Thank you very much! That edit is interesting - I wonder what WinAMP versions it includes. I'm using 5.01 now, so naturally I'd want support for that. 4) Does that mean I can assign any program, web page, common task (copy or paste, for example) or file to any of the F buttons? That would be nice.

    Logitech diNovo, Anyone got one?

Thanks - I'm PM'ed Havok, I hope he comments. I know it's pricey but I have a voucher for £100 and I can stick my boss for half the other £100 so it would only cost me £50.

    Logitech diNovo, Anyone got one?

Has anyone got a Logitech diNovo keyboard? I'm considering it as I'm a sucker for expensive input devices and I have a big gift voucher that's valid at my local store. I've a few questions... 1) Media Pad - it displays incoming IM's from Y!, MSN and AIM or something, right? What about us...

DNS is dead .. on one computer on the LAN!

I've found at bit more to test - addresses in the hosts file (%systemroot%/system32/drivers/etc) are found OK. I should also state that 195.112.4.4 and .7 are the ISP, Nildram, DNS servers which the router is set to.

DNS is dead .. on one computer on the LAN!

I can ping or access web sites / ftp servers by IP fine. ipconfig /all Holly is the computer's name, 192.168.1.1 is her IP. 192.168.1.200 is the DSL router. I've tried it without the router in the DNS section and with only the router there .. both fail the same way. The other, fully...

DNS is dead .. on one computer on the LAN!

I have a 10Mbit H/Duplex hub based network at home with 3 computers and a router on it. On just one of these computers, DNS is completely dead. The failing computer is Win2000 with SP3 just installed, also fails with SP2 as went back to make sure it wasn't SP3 causing the problem. The network...

The near future for Athlon chips, mobos and RAM?

What makes the Epox better than the Asus? Lack of onboard things is a fair point - I dislike having my mobo filled with junk that I have way better versions on in a PCI or AGP slot. Is that the only reason for it being cheaper? There seems to be quite a difference in price, around £30 - I don't...

The near future for Athlon chips, mobos and RAM?

What's the chipset/CPU and mobo roadmaps for the next few months? I'm intending to do a major upgrade soonish. I'm currently leaning towards an Athlon XP 1800+, Asus A7V266-E and 512Mb DDR2100 Crucial RAM. By the time I buy this stuff an Athlon XP 1900+ is quite likely. However, this is all...

Does anyone have the Asus A7V266-E & Alpha PAL8015 HSF combo? According to this (http://www.micforg.co.jp/mb_inf_pal8045e.html) article, it does fit but it touches a capacitor, possibly causing problems. If anyone does have this combo, has it caused any problems? Has it broken your mobo?

Strange mouse problem - 2 pixel movement

Hi, When I move the mouse in Windows 2000 Pro SP2, the pointer will move in 2-pixel jumps. Both are USB - I haven't tried PS/2 connectors yet as they should...

    Samsung SW-216 16x10x32 - any good?

I saw this CD Rewriter for sale for £67 (inc. 20 700Mb CDs) and that looks like a pretty good deal. But what's this CDRW like? It doesn't seem to have Burn-proof stuff in it but it looks pretty fast and a review says this: "I believe the Samsung SW-216 should also receive praise, and perhaps...

    Really strange mouse problem

Thanks guys, but the default drivers do this too. Infact I installed the logitech drivers when I noticed the 2-pixel movement as a normal power. I install the mouseware as admin and the 2-pixel movement went away, I thought because of the drivers, but actually because I was logged in as admin :S

    Really strange mouse problem

I should also have said that I'm double checked all mouse settings and they are the same - apart from sensitivity that needs to be lower as Power User. Does anyone know where in the UK sells this Midiland speaker system? Sharky recommends it in their high-end system and reviews seem to think it's pretty good, but I can't find it for sale :( Also, any reason why a Sonicfury (or Santacruz, same product) would give proper 5:1 sound with this?
