apple switching to intel. announcement monday

I'm not sure why everyone keeps assuming that Apple is going to go with the x86 architecture. Intel has other architectures, such as Itanium. Plus, what's stopping Apple from asking Intel to produce PowerPC procs? I would imagine that Apple would not go the x86 route; just my $.02 worth.

apple switching to intel. announcement monday

Exactly...I applaud them if they're goign to Intel to have them supply PPC chips, but even Jobs would have a hard time keeping Apple at the growth level they're at if they were to switch to x86. I guess we'll have to wait until Monday to see the details of the announcement and see what Apple...

    Cleaning CPU + Heatsink

Hummm, okay, so the general consensus is just very pure alcohol, paper towell, etc. I think I can do that. :) Thanks. I really appreciate the responses.

    Cleaning CPU + Heatsink

On both the CPU and the underside of the heatsink? Dumb question (I'm almost afraid to ask): I imagine I should remove the processor from the slot in order to do this...right? ;) Is it worth buying the "ArtiClean 1/2" in order to clean the stuff up?

    Cleaning CPU + Heatsink

I'm replacing a heatsink that came with one of my servers... I've successfully removed the heatsink, but there was a thermal pad that was between the CPU and the heatsink. I'm not sure how to properly clean the bottom of the heastink (which has thermal-pad residue) and the top of the CPU, as...

    What's up with this!?

I'm not sure why in the world Windows XP has to be so dumb about some things...this has been one of the most annoying things that I have ever encountered with any operating system I've ever worked with. I'm sure most of you know that you can "hide" icons that are in your task tray by right...

    Help! Removing Heatsink Off CPU

I can't figure out how to remove the clip on the heatsink which is holding the heatsink assembly to the motherboard. In the instructions I had to "push" straight down to latch the metal mount onto the metal tooth...now I can't figure out how to remove it, and I don't want to break anything...

    My Horrible Luck!

I was building a computer and I was having some serious problems with it before, so I returned my CPU and motherboard through Newegg and bought the same exact parts. (basically an exchange) Everything was working absolutely beautifully... Until today. The other day I noticed a very strange...

    Cooler Master Case

Anyone ever had a problem with their Cooler Master case? I just bought one off of Newegg a few days ago and I'm having some issues with the rear fan on the case. It's rattling like crazy and sounds like it's dying. I'd RMA the case to Newegg, but all so that I can replace one fan? The...

    AMD64 3500+ Temperatures

What type of temperatures are y'all getting with your AMD64 3500+ processors? I'm using a stock heatsink/fan and am wondering what a "normal" temperature would be. I've read about normal temps with other (slower) AMD64 processors, but I'm looking for 3500+ specifics. Thanks!

    AMD64 3500+, No Longer @ Newegg!

Yah...$30 is fine. But the price is almost $100 more. That's a bit much. It is quite ridiculous...two weeks ago the price was $100 cheaper. I'm sure the demand will drop significantly if the price stays up there. I doubt someone would pay that much for that processor.

    AMD64 3500+, No Longer @ Newegg!

That must have just showed up, as it wasn't there before. Thanks though for the heads-up!

    AMD64 3500+, No Longer @ Newegg!

Sorry guys, I'm definately not trying to sound rude here when I say this (not my intention), but I think some of you are not understanding what I'm saying or have not checked. The processor was "out of stock" this morning when I checked. When I searched for it on Newegg this evening, it didn't...

    AMD64 3500+, No Longer @ Newegg!

I RMA'ed my processor and mobo (was having some problems I couldn't figure out, and something was going wrong with either of these two core components). My original RMA was set up as an exchange, not a refund. But I check online on Friday night and they refunded my money, instead of exchanging...

    Please Help: Computer Problems Galore

Whoa whoa! Calm down everyone. :) I was trying to offend anyone at all. I simply wanted to know why raising the voltage would help. I thought this was done when you overclock a computer, and I've simply never overclocked before (for a variety of reasons). I wasn't questioning anybody's...

    Please Help: Computer Problems Galore

I'm in a huge jam...here's the latest revalation: I have the BIOS set to turn the alarm on if something goes wrong with any given fan (cool feature, especially since it didn't exist on my old Dell). I boot the machine, everything is cool...then the alarm starts blaring. I reboot, go into the...

    Please Help: Computer Problems Galore

    Please Help: Computer Problems Galore

I really hope it's not the bad memory. Wouldn't POST fail if the memory was bad? The memory would explain the BSOD, but it wouldn't explain the Verifying DMI Pool problem... @mech: what would raising the mem voltage do? I am pretty sure I have read 99% (if not more!) of my motherboard manual...

    Please Help: Computer Problems Galore

Hummm this is not good...I keep reading (when I did a search on Google) that this might be a hardware problem... I wouldn't even know where to start in diagnosing such a problem. It could be the SATA drives, motherboard, memory, etc. etc. This is really bad. :(

    Please Help: Computer Problems Galore

Ran through these and it doesn't look like any of these could be the problem. However, it *could* be the jumpers on the hard drive. That wouldn't make much sense, though, as the BIOS shows two SATA drives in the correct order on the page. Hummm, dunno what else it could be on the page, other...

    Help! Thermal Compound

Thanks so much for your help guys... Experiencing other problems when booting computer now, but I'll get those fixed. I ended up leaving the original thermalpad on. I hear that AMD64 chips run really cool, anyways, so it's all good :)

    Help! Thermal Compound

Yah...pretty anal. ;) Unfortunately I'm not sure I know how to do this (remove the thermal pad and clean the CPU). I guess once it's on (the pad, that is, melted on the CPU), it would be more difficult to do, 'eh?

    Help! Thermal Compound

Okay folks...please...:) Trying to build my box here. Positive advice and experience would help :D I hear Arctic Silver helps in some cases...but, I'm not sure if I want to go through the trouble now. I also hear that once you use a thermal pad, it's *really* hard to get it off of your...

    Help! Thermal Compound

Glad I posted this and read everything before I was all done... Is it even WORTH doing this? I mean...does one finger print on the thermal paste really matter? I'm kind of worried now that the CPU is probably messy...not to mention I still don't really know how I'd clean it without possibly...

    Help! Thermal Compound

I'm actually in the process of building my computer as I type this. The processor, of course, came with a heatsink (it was a retail processor on Newegg). It's the 939 socket AMD64 3500+. Now the Heatsink had a thermal *pad* on it when I got it. Unfortunately I touched one of the edges of the...

Windows XP + SATA Drive Install

Hi. I just ordered my computer from Newegg. It will be here on Tuesday. I'm already preparing to install Windows XP on the computer, and I know that generally an extra step has to be taken during the installation process in order for XP to recognize SATA drives. I've read that you have to...
