    Build Advice

Ah, that makes sense. Well obviously I wouldn't want to do that, so I guess I'll just go with 4x8GB, since if I upgrade down the line, 8X4GB would probably be a lot of stress on the memory controller, right?

    Build Advice

I just don't understand why you can get 4X8 GB for a 32GB kit, but you can only get 4x4GB for a 16GB kit. If I could get 2X8GB, I would gladly get that now and then purchase the same kit down the line to upgrade to 32GB if necessary, and be safe because it would be the exact same RAM.

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone could help me with this build that would be used for gaming as well as recording (Pro Tools, Ableton), and some light Photoshop. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: *Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor ($362.95 @...

Best time of year to buy all the parts for a brand new build?

In terms of price, is it the general consensus that you will get the best prices on Black Friday or cyber Monday to buy all your parts? Or is there another time of year that's better? I hate seeing my PCPartPicker graph hitting a low spike by a few hundred dollars and then leveling off again...

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

bruceb, I have already returned the old printer and purchased the M401dn. However, I do believe I had tried 32-bit drivers at one point (mainly because I wanted them to be available to the 32-bit machines that try to access the shared printer on my computer). When those were loaded, however, I...

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

On the HP Support Forum, I engaged with a tech since last week in trying to solve the problem. None of the solutions worked. If you'd like to see the details of this thread, look here...

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

So am I screwed? I can try exchanging this for one of the M400 series laserjets, which has the paper drawer, although I'm not even sure if that would work at this point. I am pretty disappointed with HP right now. Is there a better brand now that I should know of? A model of printer that I...

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

I tried a few different drivers. UPD, as well as the old 4050 drivers... none of them fixed the problem. But I'm starting to think that the problem lies in the way some of these new laserjets feed paper... they have trays like inkjets with a small paper guide, rather than trays you pull out...

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

These new printers go face up actually. I'm definitely feeding the labels the right way, and when I try it the reverse way, the same thing happens (these 5160s and 5963s don't have a feed direction because they are symmetrical).

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

Some of the other printers around the office that work fine are LaserJet P2015, P2035, 1018, and 4050. Are those host-based also?

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

I was hoping I wouldn't have to experiment and find the different margins for every type of label I will have to print. And then to do that every time I have to set someone up with a new computer and printer we get at the office doesn't make sense. Since the templates print fine on our...

New LaserJets Print Avery Labels off alignment. Prints too far up and sometimes left

Hi, OS: Windows 7 64-bit I am completely frustrated with this problem. I have tried finding a solution, and it seems like I've stumbled across a few people having this problem, but no concrete solution; yet it seems to be something that would have been addressed by HP, Avery, or Microsoft...

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

I got around the problem! Finally! It was the NB voltage the whole time. I set it to 1.4V manually, and the 3Dmark graphics card ran smoothly. After that I raised the FSB pretty high, to about 450, and got a BSOD. I jumped so high because before I noticed the graphics problem, I was passing...

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

Will do when I get home and let you guys know. If it doesn't work, I'll also check lowering the multiplier but raising the FSB to above 400 to see if it's the FSB at 400 that's the wall, or the total clock speed. Thanks again for being so helpful and patient.

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

Thanks for the links! I read through them all. The CPU probably is getting enough voltage at 1.4 then, I would think. I'll still try adjusting it manually. But does that make you think its probably more related to the NB voltage? The northbridge, after all, is what links the FSB with the...

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

I just figured out for sure it's not the RAM. I set the RAM divider to 800, and set the FSB back to stock speed of 333, making the RAM run at 889 (333:889). The performance issue does not happen. So the RAM can be overclocked. So this means the performance issue with the graphics card only...

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

No, 667 is the lowest divider. The P35 mobos don't go below that, as they don't officially support DDR2-533. Yeah, I don't get that either. But when I leave the strap on Auto, it gives me those odd ratios. I set the strap to 400 once via someone on another forum's suggestion -- it didn't fix...

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

This is really interesting. After posting the pics of those benchmarks earlier, I went ahead and swapped the 9800 gx2 for the 6570. I could get it up to 399:799, but as soon as I put it at 400:801, it wouldn't even post with that card. I would have to reset the CMOS or swap with the 9800GX2...

It's funny you say that, the thought popped in my head before you posted that it could be something to do with the 9800GX2. Dual GPUs are weird and maybe they don't play nice with overclocking. Anyway, I got a shitty 6570 I used for testing once layin around. Haha, as if experimenting with...

First-Time Overclocker, problems with E6750 and DDR2-800 RAM

I'm new to overclocking (never tried it until the other night). Read through the clunk's, graysky, and wolfram beginner's guides and got a good idea of it. Mainly followed Clunk's, I was overclocking fine when it came to booting, temps, and stability tests, until I realized the system wasn't...

Hey everyone, This problem started happening all of the sudden and it is getting really annoying. I built this computer a little over a year and a half ago. Recently the hard drives failed and I had to buy two new ones (I configure them RAID 0). Needless to say, I'm running off a recently...

    9800 GX2 overclocked editions

That was gonna be my next question. Can't you just overclock graphics cards yourself? Or are the overclocked out of the box different (maybe better cooling) so it's safer to run at that clock speed?

How to tell if your gfx card solution will be CPU-bound?

Yes, G2400W. Absolutely awesome. Denithor, that brings me back to my main question. How do you know that I'm CPU bound before 3 GHz? And how do you know that I'm bound at 2.6 GHz? How do you tell which clock speeds are going to bottleneck your graphics card? Is it a spec on the graphics...

    9800 GX2 overclocked editions

As of April 3rd, EVGA released three new overclocked editions of the 9800 GX2. In order from slowest to fastest: KO, SC, and SSC. I just got a 9800 GX2, and figure I can step-up to one of these. Are they worth it? Is overclocking the graphics card gonna have a dramatic increase in...

yeah betasub you got everything right. Not overclocked though. i've actually never overclocked and been a little afraid to, but since i'm planning to eventually upgrade to a 45nm, I'll experiment with this processor a little. 1920x1200 would be nice, but it is Crysis at that resolution is...

How to tell if your gfx card solution will be CPU-bound?

I ended up with 2 EVGA 9800 GX2s (long story). My plan is to return one and get $600, but I'm wondering if I should just keep it and run Quad-SLI. I've seen the benchmarks, and they aren't that impressive, and the drivers are finicky at best right now. But the main thing that concerns me is...

P5K-E WiFi AP USB 2.0 Ports

I just built a new PC with an ASUS P5K-E WiFi AP. It has 6 USB ports in the back, and 2 in the front. Obviously, being a new card, all of these ports are USB 2.0. But when I plugged my iPod into a back USB port last night, Windows said the device would go faster if plugged into a USB 2.0...

    PCI-E 2.0 and 1.1 question

I see. But when people say that today's graphics cards don't saturate the bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0, or even 1.1, where does this information come from? Can you look at a graphics card's specs and be able to estimate how much bandwidth it will saturate? If so, what spec or specs determine this?

    PCI-E 2.0 and 1.1 question

I've searched through lots of forums, but could not find the answer to this. So forgive me for another 2.0 vs. 1.1, question, but after lots of due diligence, I think it's safe to ask this question. Everybody knows that PCI-E 2.0 is not worth it yet, because no video cards are capable of...
