    Most economical color laser printer

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at the 3100CN and would probably go with that if it was up to me. Makes the most sense to me. I just don't know how much more economic it would be in the long run over the 2550. Lemon - thanks for the toms hardware idea..didn't know they had that...

    Most economical color laser printer

I work in a design firm which means we are often printing out color designs. I purchased the HP color laserjet 2550 6 months ago. This past week the printer stopped working, I found out it was because the yellow toner was out of ink, while the cyan and magenta were at 3%. I don't see how I...

How to restore a partition after reboot?

At my university, you can save files to the local drive, or do any changes you want. Upon reboot, the hard drive goes back to the factory state and any created files are gone. As if it's pulling a ghosted image from the server. I have searched to try and find out how to do this on my own...

    Need to print outside network

Hi. I did a job last week at a supermarket setting up a small network for their accounting office in the basement. I was told that the 4 computers there would only have to see each other and print with each other. They've since called and told me that one of the computers upstars(POS terminal...

    Need to run CAT6 outside..

The problem with wireless is it's 200-300 feet with trees in between and I also will need somewhat high speeds to transfer some big files... If you reall'y don't think I should use copper, I guess I have to go fiber as I don't think wireless will work. sage

    Need to run CAT6 outside..

Scott, I searched CDW but could not find the cheap converters you spoke of. I also looked into running fiber a bit. It also seems that 300' of fiber will run me $250 or so. I don't think I can afford that. Where can I get a proper grounded emt conduit for running cat 6? sage

    Need to run CAT6 outside..

Scott, It seems that every thread I make you have a wonderful answer to. Thank you! I've never dealt with fiber. Wouldn't it be very difficult to install? I'm not looking to pay an installer thousands of dollars to do this..but if I can just lay the fiber in some conduit and use those...

Setting up a 4 PC network with Windows Server Small Business 2003

Just got back from the office. Another long night. Seemed to go quite smoothly, I think. No problems, just time consuming. Got terminal services up and running at least. Messed around more with AD - users, policies, profiles. I found out why when I created a new account, it still appeared...

John, I should hire you :) Seriously, you've been a great help. I hope I didn't ask too much. I may be setting myself up here, but I'm actually feeling pretty confident based on how far I got last night and what I've learned so far in this thread(a lot!). Thanks for everything!

Setting up a 4 PC network with Windows Server Small Business 2003

Also, on the Learn Server 2003 videos that I have, the guy uses the "Manage your Server" for adding/removing/managing roles. It seems very easy to do. If I go to manage your server, I don't see "roles" mentioned at all. It brings me to a management console - does the same thing, just not...

John, As for as the server being used as a workstation - if using the AD domain setup, wouldn't they just login to the domain, as if using from any other computer? I'm not talking about letting them use the local admin account..just connecting to the domain. Roaming profiles - Correct...

John, Thanks for your quick reply! Yes I work for this company, and yes I'm aware that it is not very smart to take on a project without having the know-how to set it up properly on the first run. However, I do have a very strong personal relationship with this company, they're not...

Yes it is for a business. netsysadmin, I respect your comment, and I don't want to seem like an ignorant fool, but I would really like to learn how to do this. What better way to learn then to actually try, right? I'm not just doing it to cut costs, I'm doing it to learn. On that note...

    Help please..hard drive issue

Thanks for the quick replies. I agree that Windows XP can cause resets like this, however I did not think it could cause the system to not POST , requiring resetting the CMOS? That's why I didn't try repairing/clean installing XP earlier. I did not replace the motherboard with the same...

Small Office network..need a domain and VPN.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I think I'd rather go with VPN. They won't be needing Exchange 2003 as only one person even uses an e-mail address. So then I should just go for Windows Server 2003 standard right, not the small business? addragyn: I can't thank you enough for your...

Small Office network..need a domain and VPN.

addragyn: great post, appreciate it very much! In response: Please pardon my ignorance, but I'm learning. If a server isn't necessary, what would make a server necessary? Can Netbeui allow policies to be pushed? She wants it so for example, the "sales people" ONLY have access to sales...
